I think the merchandising angle is almost certainly what is going on. Sorry to go all "hifi" here, but a quick story: Last weekend's Ravans-Broncos game was not on local TV, so I went to a bar to watch, joined by a female friend who pretty much just wanted to look at Josh McDaniels. It was downright uncanny. Despite the Ravens owning the Broncos all over the field (for the most part), there was one camera shot of John Harbaugh in the entire second half. In that same time span, there were no less than two dozen camera cutaways to Josh McDaniels on the sidelines. If my friend hadn't told me to be on the lookout for it, I probably wouldn't have noticed, but I think there's very little question that this was done for female fans, who I've heard have a thing for this particular coach. Too bad he'll probably be out of a job at the end of this season. Congratulations on out-gaying even the extremely high gay level of the usual gay hifi story. (Let's see what kind of google ads pop up at the top of the page after THAT post) I had a Roku ad and a Qwest internet ad. Maybe if you claim that hifi likes to dress in women's clothing, reads Perez Hilton, and secretly wants to be Lady Gaga.

"Free hair removal" and "never shave again" (both showing pictures of women's legs)
It's working!
But seriously, sorry for the story.

Back on topic, we are one game closer to seeing Jerry Jones' head explode.

I missed something. I don't know what it was, but it was obviously a doozy!

That was beyond awful---how do officials continue to favor the offense in what seemingly is every play on the ball? Is it that hard to let DB's play? Or must we assume they all interfere with WR's? Joke.

Yeah, I did miss that play. I did catch the replay, but that focused on the score, not whether there was a penalty. But I wouldn't doubt it. AJ is from the scUM and ... nevermind.
Seriously though, I was away from the TV. Otherwise, I would have seen it. I LOVE NFL Redzone!

Tarvaris Jackson looks pretty good to me about now. At least he might try to scramble when pass protection crumbles instead of sideunderhand flipping the ball like it was dog poop toward the neighbor's yard. The only hope is that the League will make him sit for disciplinary reasons after an "anonymous" leak about text-gate. Maybe he'll mysteriously get a concussion or he'll use his limping and arm wincing as an excuse to sit himself. Either way, Chilly and the Vikes are incapable of doing it for themselves. They made a deal with the devil and are now stuck in hell.

There. I fixed it for myself. Having done that though, why do I have this strange feeling that the Cowboys will show up tonight and beat the Giants? Do I suffer from the nauseating media hype that had them in the Super Bowl and just can't let myself believe that they are not a good team? Or is it more that I really don't believe in the Giants all that much? Either way, anyone have any good counter-programming ideas so I don't have to watch this mess? There aren't a lot of good hockey games on tonight. (Kings-Wild might be pretty good.)

Boz, I had the exact same feeling about this game. All logic tells me that the Giants should win and that the spread is ridiculous, but something tells me that the Cowboys will actually show up tonight, so against my better judgment I laid the points in my fantasy contest.
The old bullslinger has two chipped bones in an ankle, so even though a couple of his passes last night looked like they were thrown by a middle school kid, I guess we can't question his toughness.

I would not ask him to carry anyone else's shoulder pads! Bad news for Cowboys: Everything else. Jerry Jones knows how to spend $$ on his team, but that's where his expertise ends. Until he is willing to hand over total control of this team to a real GM and HC, the 'Boys will never get it together. Great talent -- mostly due to the Parcells era, but the team is awful. On the other hand, the GIANTS looked awesome! They committed 5 turnovers and still smoked the 'boys. Who wants to play QB vs. the Giants?!?!

I would submit that five turnovers - against the Dallas defense - does not constitute "looking awesome."
They did still smoke the Cowboys though. That much is true. I thought I might have some psychic skill after watching the opening quarter, but over the course of 60 minutes the cream rose and the dregs sank, as is normally the case.

On the other hand, the GIANTS looked awesome! They committed 5 turnovers and still smoked the 'boys. Who wants to play QB vs. the Giants?!?! I'll ask you this Sir Saxa--where is Dallas "great talent"? Romo is great for where he came from-undrafted FA and makes a terrible OL look better due to his mobility--but he's also turnover prone and isn't a leader at a position you'd want a leader. RB--average to subpar--but again-their terrible OL dictates this more then anything. I will say Jerry Jones saying he didn't "know about Chris Johnson and how fast he was" is maybe the funniest quote ever--considering the guy set a combine record for fastest 40 time--(at the time he ran) and it's Jerry's way of not admitting he was hell bent on taking a former Arkansas player no matter what. WR---best and most talented group on team. Every guy they put out there is a good player-depending on role you use them-see Roy Williams as an overpaid but good 3rd WR. TE--awful--and the most overrated player on the team/one of most in league in Jason Witten. He's slow--which is fine--but he doesn't run physical--so not good. He commits a ton of stupid penalties, and is one of reasons they turn ball over so much--forcing ball to him,. He gets talked about as a great blocker and he's not even adequate. Guy gets hyped for the one play in Philly where he ran without his helmet. Martellus Bennett is a turd--just a complete and absolute loser on/off the field. Guy could be a great blocker--settles for being average. His best position would be OT--but he thinks he's Kellen Winslow. John Phillips is their best TE--out for year with injury. OL---Fat, poor technique, old, injury prone, and a lot of them always were bad--but made to look better because Romo's mobility prevented the amount of sacks that they were giving up when Vinny/Bledsoe were back there. DL--A few good players--although misplaced. Ratliff should be a DE in 3-4 and gets destroyed in running game. Stephen Bowen is their 2nd best DL. After that-they need a complete overhaul. ILB--worst in NFL--Bradie James is so bad teams leave him unblocked when he blitzes--because he can't get to the QB due to no speed. Brooking is too old/washed up--after taking the worst LB in NFL history (Bobby Carpenter) the Boys follow it up by taking an injury prone and mediocre, not to mention slow as hell Sean Lee-who is on par with Carpenter. Slow White LB's from Big 10 is a Boys thing--but as Jerry likes to say they are "finesse backers". OLB--Ware is a great player--has no help. Victor Butler is their 2nd best OLB---Spencer overhyped/overrated. Nobody else worth mentioning. CB--Mike Jenkins has potential but is sloppy in technique. Newman has no ball skills and would be a good slot guy at this point in career. Scandrick is terrible. Safety--next to ILB-this group is worst on team and one of worst groups in NFL. Sensabaugh is a career special teamer who Dallas overvalued after a year with them--ala Ken Hamlin before. Alan Ball wouldn't make most teams. McBriar is a good punter Buehler is unproven--but has good leg as kicker. So the "great talent" is where? Jerry Jones took what Jimmy Johnson built and has destroyed it for over 15 years and people buy into the hype--because the names of players and stupid "Pro Bowl Appearance" labels. Who doesn't make the Pro Bowl? Dallas has huge fan base/following and voted guys undeserving into game and by time all the "alternates" are chosen who doesn't make the team? As long as Jerry Jones is GM--this team won't contend and they'll have overrated/mediocre players hyped due to uniform they wear and not how they play. I'll throw in the fact the Dallas Strength and Conditioning Program is viewed as one of the worst in NFL and guy is in place due to fact he partied with Jerry--sure he still does. Was former Oklahoma S&C guy and worked there when they sucked--but had some "connections" that tied him to well known people and not for good reasons. When Stoops took over at OU--he even alluded to the fact this was worst conditioned program he'd seen in his years playing/coaching and his first move was to get Jerry Schmidt at OU as the S&C. That is the Dallas Cowboys summed up--and for those of us who despise Jerry Jones--it's quite a funny thing and one of most reliable to count on--their failure and the overbearing hype that follows on an annual basis.

It was definitely kind of funny watching the Cowboys squander all the early help the Giants gave them. When the Giants held Dallas to the field goal after the second tipped pass-interception, I told my son I thought the Giants would come back and win. The only real glitch along the way was the punt return by Bryant, which was pretty damn impressive. Other than that, it was all Giant Blue the rest of the way.
On an unrelated note, did anyone see the Favre Wrangler take off skit on SNL? It was absolutely hilarious. The Wrangler Open Fly Jeans
I think the best part was towards the end when he said that he puts his pants on just like everybody else, one leg at a time -- and then I whip my prick out. SNL still has some great moments. It's not like it used to be where it was an hour and a half of never ending, riotous laughter, but they still stumble across some goodies every now and then.

I'll ask you this Sir Saxa--where is Dallas "great talent"? RDF - we know the coaching sucks. The team is undisciplined. The owner has a Texas sized ego. And -- according to you -- the talent level is atrocious. So how come the "no-talent" Cowboys were 3rd in the NFL in total Offense and 4th in Total defense before last night? They led the league in penalties and had a -5 TO total before last night too which help explain their 1-5 record. Add all that up, and it shouts "undisciplined team" to me. But I don't know how a team with bottom of the barrel talent and all the other things going against them, could still be ranked in the top 3/4 in O and D in the LEAGUE.... not the conference... the NFL.

I saw that skit. I watched SNL for a while on Saturday because I wanted to see Kings of Leon. I thought the show was pretty lame - except for that skit, which cracked me up.
