You can't root for the Giants and then for the Eagles. You just can't. Well, you can. I mean, I hate the Giants, so I wouldn't, but most of us don't care about other people's rivalries. I'm sure there are plenty of BE fans who root for the BE in the tourney, so they could be rooting for Georgetown and Cuse at the same time. I know, shudder to think, but it's not all that unusual. For the vast majority of us, we don't really care who wins the NFC East. Just so long as it isn't the Cowboys. ;D

Yeah, I was pulling for the Eagles. I actually wanted the Giants or the Bucs to make the playoffs, so I was already on a tilt of sorts. You can't root for the Giants and then for the Eagles. You just can't. I guess if I was a diehard Giant fan, then you would be right. I was really hoping the Bucs would get the last spot, but if not them, then the Giants. When they didn't get it, I was really rooting against the Packers more than anything else. But you have to remember, I was pulling for my boy Riley Cooper more than anything.

Well-played: deadspin.com/5732917/The ankle was an arch enemy of the heel because the heel had a sole that could neither toe the line nor keep instep.

I actually thought that was pretty low class.
Funny? Yeah, OK. A little. But still pretty low class.

I believe I made reference a few pages back to Aaron Rodgers being a pro bowl quarterback. If he isn't, the only reason should be that he's playing in the Super Bowl. Brett who?

With Baltimore and the Pats out I now have no one left to root against.

The National Football League, home to guts, grit, and glamour. Glamour? Glamour. www.nytimes.com/2011/01/16/sports/football/16quarterbacks.html?_r=1&ref=sportsWinning a Super Bowl has apparently become a rest stop on the road to landing a critically-acclaimed baby-goat-cuddling photo spread in GQ. I will be in Las Vegas for Super Bowl weekend, and I forced myself to watch large chunks of the inept turnover-fest (sorry, er, "wild, exciting finish") in Pittsburgh and the denouement to the week's incessant yapping in New England for future wagering purposes. Between off-the-field attitudes and mediocre on-the-field product, I remain happy to be a former NFL fan.

That 7 + minute Pats drive in the 4th quarter, down 10, included some of the worst play calling I think I have ever seen. Especially surprising from Belicheck the genius and the greatest QB to ever play the game. Nance I think referred to the drive a few times as disciplined, which I guess is one way to spin it. If I was a Pats fan I think I would have died during that horrific drive.

Ryan got to Belichick today---or at least Belichick coached like it--be it the silly fake punt attempt before the half, the going for 2 which could've come up as a major disaster later, the ball control "run the clock" drive when BEHIND by 10 pts, and just horrific decision to focus on throwing to Alge Crumpler the "secret weapon". There is a reason he's more of an OT then a TE--it was just stupid.
Credit to Jets--the better team won--and they earned the right to talk as much junk as anyone. Ryan and his staff/team outcoached/outplayed the Pats.
Great games set up for next weekend and set for a good Super Bowl no matter who makes it!

Amazingly, this will only be the 2nd time that the Packers and Bears have met in the playoffs (the other came in 1941). It's only the 4th time in history that both teams have even made the playoffs in the same year.

Being at Soldier Field on Sunday was awesome. Being at work on Monday morning is less so. Is it strange that the thought of beating the Packers next week has me more excited than a potential Super Bowl appearance?

Amazingly, this will only be the 2nd time that the Packers and Bears have met in the playoffs (the other came in 1941). It's only the 4th time in history that both teams have even made the playoffs in the same year. Stig, that is surprising, though maybe not quite as surprising as one might at first think given the year 1941 being in the mix. Until the late '60s, there were only two divisions in the NFL -- East and West. There was no AFL until about 1960. Two leagues were combined in 1970, about 3-4 years after the Superbowl was established to feature each league's champ. When the Leagues were combined, they became the NFC and AFC both within the NFL. And three teams were moved from the NFC to the AFC to even up the number of teams. Those were the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Colts -- who later moved to Indianapolis. Back to Chicago and Green Bay. They were both in the Western Division of the NFL (pre merger with the AFL). The NFL Championship featured the winners of the East and West Divisions playing for the NFL Title. Only those two teams made the "post season", just as in baseball only two teams made the World Series - they were no playoffs. Teams from the same division could, by definition, never meet in the post season. Well, almost never. The exception to all of this was if two teams within a division finished tied at the end of the season... they would have a playoff game to determine which team would play in the NFL Title game. That is the ONLY way that Chicago and GB could meet in a post-season game and it happened only once -- in 1941. That was also the first time ANY two teams ended the season in a tie. Chicago beat GB in the playoff, then beat the NY Giants in the Title game. The luster was taken off the entire affair though because those two games took place in December, 1941, shortly after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Even after the merger, GB and Chicago were always in the same division making it less likely for them to meet in the "playoffs". In short, even given all the info above it is still surprising they've only met once -- back in 1941 -- just not quite as surprising as one might think at first glance.
