I don't post often, but thought I'd do so now after seeing Daniel play tonight at Lawrenceville (I'm a history teacher and soccer coach here at Lawrenceville so this was an easy game for me to see...disclaimer, having played soccer all my life (and at Gtown), my scouting skills in hoops are relatively limited, so bare with me).
Lawrenceville won by 9 but Ochefu can play. He's got great hands and good handle on the ball for a big guy. Don't know exactly how many he scored, but it was probably around 20 with 8ish rebounds and at least 3 blocks. Westown wasn't a great shooting team so the Lville guys were collapsing on him inside and his teammates often struggled to get him the ball. When he got it down low though it was pretty much a done deal. He had a nice 12 footer at one point too, though he missed a couple from about 6 feet out (he did hit three 3pters in a row in warm-ups however). He rebounded aggressively and seemed to have a nose for the ball. A couple of misguided passes and a travel hurt him, but Lawrenceville is a very quick team that pressures well. I was sitting with a couple of my colleagues who both coach basketball (and played in college) and they were very impressed with him as well. One told me that he thought he'll be even better at the next level b/c there wouldn't be 2 or 3 guys collapsing around him every time he got the ball.
And when I was in the field house after the game with my kids, he walked right by me, so I couldn't resist telling him (with a twinkle in my eye) that he had a great game and that Georgetown is a fantastic place to go to school.

nice recap. Glad to hear he rebounded aggressively and has a nose for the ball.

Nice review Stonehands. And good job with the GU plug! Who knows? That could be the one that gets it done.

Bronxitos friend who is an assitant coach at one of the Ivy's gave Bronxie this tidbit after watching Ochefu.
Regor! I saw Daniel Ochefu last weekend play at the Prime Time Shootout in PA. Westtown High School player Life Center Academy and the G (gtown) was there after they beat Villanova that afternoon. He is very mobile and active, very good fundamental skill set and foot work. He has good size but needs and will put on muscle this summer. He even went 1/3 from three point range and one miss he rushed before the half time buzzer. I believe he will be a great addition but need his freshman year to learn."Right Now" I don't see him coming in and having a major impact his freshman year unless he puts the work in this summer.... anything is possible.

Thanks for posting bronxie. As I read it, it sounded like your pal might think Ochefu is 2011, rather than 2012?

Thanks for posting this Chep! Before I talk about Ochefu--I'd like to compliment the Westtown administrators, coach, and team. Very good people who have right idea of what it should be about--school/basketball. Very impressed and Ochefu is type of guy you can pull for wherever he chooses. Like the Hoyas chances with the stress on academics--and while I'm not a fan of negative recruiting--if you can't sell yourself to someone--what good are you?---how in the hell is WVU on Ochefu's list? They can't hold a candle to Georgetown, UVA, Nova, Temple academically. The coach has chastized players for placing an emphasis on school ahead of weight lifting, he's had back to back incidents in Vegas on recruiting trips where he's "fallen" and busted his face up, and WVU degree isn't in same league as the other schools. Basketball wise--WVU-I get--but overall experience--no way. Ochefu fits Hoyas system to a tee--unselfish, great hoops IQ, great passer, and team player. Wants strong academics, and is a big man--with the best school in country at developing big men on his list. Sounds like a no brainer to me-but I'm admittedly biased.

Keep an eye on Temple. I have a couple of friends who know Ochefu's high school coach who played JV hoops at Penn when Dunphy (current Temple coach) was the coach there.

Temple's a great program and Dunphy's a really good coach. But you have to assume the prospect of playing in the BE trumps playing in the A-10 right?

Temple's a great program and Dunphy's a really good coach. But you have to assume the prospect of playing in the BE trumps playing in the A-10 right? Not necessarily. Remember Mark Macon? He was a top recruit that John Chaney successfully lured to Temple. Macon, btw, was one of Broadus' assistants at Binghamton and was named interim head coach there after Broadus' demise.

Different era. Different coach. That said, Temple has a definte appeal.

Yeah I meant that more as of a 2011 comment. Obviously the A-10 used to be stronger in the Chaney, Cal, and Jarvis days, and obviously Temple used to be an elite program. But while they're a good program still, they're not like a Memphis (great program that rises above the conference), and the A-10, while better than some of the power conferences, is no BE.

Evan Daniels of Scout says Temple and Georgetown are likely Ochefu's top 2.

It's not going to be a problem for a top 15 kid in his class. We will go with a '13 PG Markel's senior year if we have to. I'm not a recruitnik, but I would be Shocked, if his offer was conditional on anything.

If we get Otto and things stay as they are, then we only have 1 scholarship left for '12. Will it go to Kyle, Daniel or someone else? Does the first to commit picks it up or does it go to our needs, if any? Trust the staff.
