It says highest ranked commit at guard since Freeman. I actually thought it was a really good article.
DSR is going to contribute right away and surprise a lot of people. I think we got a steal.

This coach knows what he is talking about, so we should all be really happy about his comments. If DSR can step right in to the Jason Clark role, we'd be in good shape.

We really needed offense next year, and here comes DSR. Now we just need to shore up that defense in the middle with Sims leaving...

I think that Smith-Rivera is exactly what this team needs with the loss of Jason Clark - a good shooter and solid free throw shooter who can add some strength on offense. He seems to be drawing a lot of comparisons to Austin Freeman, which isn't a bad thing, as I think that's a need that our team will have next year.
I also think that Smith-Rivera has the potential to get a decent number of minutes next year because the guard position is relatively light. I'd imagine that Starks, Trawick and Smith-Rivera will all get minutes next year, varying depending on how well each plays.

With some combination of Hollis/Nerlens/Pollard/other recruit potentially altering the situation, and two other big men possibly coming back from injury, I could see Whit having to play a lot of three or playing a lot of two with Otto or Hollis or the three. We've got a ton of unknowns right at this instant, and even if DSR is our only recruit, Adams and Moses are kind of like freshmen next year since we've barely seen them.

I agree. Moses and Tyler Adams are really the wild cards for next year. Obviously, both of them were sidetracked by injuries, but we really don't know much about either player and what level of play they will bring when they do play.
In his limited minutes this year, I thought Adams actually showed some promise in the post - I am pretty confident that if he had not been injured he would have seen more extended minutes this year (especially in a game like the NC State matchup where Sims was in foul trouble). Moses also seemed to impress a lot of people at Kenner League, too, so he may really grow as a player, too.
While I'd love to get Noel, I think we'll have a really solid team even if we only get DSR and Bolden for the class of 2012.

No one ever mentions Bowen. I hope he sticks around and contributes big time.

I agree. Bowen certainly "looks" the part, and it's nothing wrong with that. I think he can also contribute as well. We'll see. Just DON'T LEAVE like Vee. (Unless his sit down with coach promises him the bench for another year)

DSR is a key factor for next year's success--especially if he's the lone guard brought in '12 class. Alleninxis mentioned a while back that he resembles Purdue's Terone Johnson and very true. One thing that helped Johnson this year at Purdue was dropping 15 lbs-and he was muscular his FR year. It's more important to be quicker then bigger/stronger at college level as a guard and 230 is too big for DSR--he should be at 205-210 range where he was last Spring/into the Summer. None of these guys are in bad shape--but we're talking about D1 conditioning-and as a guard who is going to have to play some point for Georgetown--need him to be quick as he can.
If you have watched Terone Johnson play--that's DSR's game-driving/bulling to hoop, although I think DSR is much better shooter and has more moves--especially on a nice step back around FT area-but that will be hard for him to utilize in the Hoyas offense--as they don't run same sets as Purdue does for Johnson to slash/drive.
Defensively--that's where he's got to focus on speed/sleek frame over strong/bulk. Obviously it would help a great deal to bring in Nerlens Noel-but for a kid like DSR who will get beat off the dribble a lot--it's even bigger the Hoyas have a guy protecting the rim.
I love his FT shooting--game is over the minute teams have to foul him--he'll win so many close games for Hoyas. Also think he's going to bring an air of confidence to the program that is needed-he's played on teams that have won--both in Indiana and with Oak Hill and as Macklin/Rivers/Summers showed in '07 as key role players and the FR this past season showed--confidence and knowing you belong on same court is so important to succeeding. He's seen everyone he'll be playing against and won't be scared/doubting himself. As much crap as the '06 class took for not being up to their recruiting profiles-they helped in roles and were part of III's biggest successes in his tenure and contributed in their roles--even when not happy with that. DSR will fit that mold of being tough minded and competitive. Just hope he focuses on his foot speed/quickness and ballhandling-as those areas are needed for backcourt the most.

Unless the kid has been loading up on twinkies since the last game I saw him play on TV, he is not 230 lbs. He looked to be in the 210-215 lbs range. Austin was about 230 lbs his sophomore and junior years when he tried to bulk up to play the small forward position. This kid in January did not look to be no where near that weight. If he was then he must have some awful big feet.

Agree completely with RDF on quickness vs strength for DSR. Ask any diehard Illini fan what was the turning point in Deron Williams' college career and they will tell you it was the day he broke his jaw. Deron was like DSR in terms of height and body size. He certainly wasn't in bad shape but i don't think he realized how much he was giving up in terms of speed, quickness, hops and explosiveness. He dropped over 20 pounds when his jaw was wired shut and when he came back, his game really really took off.

(Unless his sit down with coach promises him the bench for another year) We have one open schollie right now. That is after accounting for DSR and BOLDEN arriving. If we pull a miracle and get Nerlens - we are done. Unless, someone leaves. Will Hollis return? or graduate and move on? Some of us think Bowen looked really quick and athletic in his extremely limited minutes. Is he ready to contribute next year? he sure looked like a player and seems enthusiastic on the bench. If Hollis leaves, there will be some PT for him. Personally, while I understand why some kids choose to go elsewhere, I prefer to have them stick around, contribute and succeed right here at GU.

Haha this article is a pretty hilarious. He is our best recruit since freeman? Henry, Hollis, Greg Monroe were all ranked ahead of him, and even nate was in some eyes. Also quicker and more athletic than the Mcdonalds all American slam dunk second place finisher. I doubt that. Um, it says, "D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera is the highest-recruited Hoya commit at guard since Freeman himself back in 2007."
