Lee Reed, currently the AD at Cleveland State, will be named as Georgetown's new AD tomorrow. Not as cool as Lou Reed, but hey, you heard it here first. As recently as 2008, his name was not mud in Cleveland: www.csuohio.edu/news/releases/2008/07/leereed.htmlDespite risking being run out of town with torches and pitchforks, I'm not revealing my sources...but it's not this man: bit.ly/bu7v36.

Hmm, without knowing more, I've got to give credit to Georgetown for looking beyond Reed's immediate lack of pedigree. His CV suggests that he has personally participated in the full gamut of an athletic department's activities, and I can only hope that the search committee saw something promising in his potential to grow.

So he played at Cleveland St until 1983 and then coach New Mexico from 1984-1986 but then got his degree from New Mexico in 1992? I am confused. Did he not go to class at Cleveland St?

Seriously? I thought it was embarrassing that our last AD left us for Delaware. Cleveland Friggen State? The AD at a school whose athletic conference I can't remotely name off the top of my head? But it's cool, before that he was an assistant AD at East Michigan so we should be good. Awesome. In similar news, I heard my nephew's 8th grade social studies teacher has been appointed dean of the SFS.

But i would think there are many people who would like to see it become at least on the radar, and bringing in a new AD would the perfect time to divert some resources. The real situation is that basketball is set, it makes all the money and will for the foreseeable future, but football could benefit greatly from a little TLC

While I love Georgetown athletics, I don't think the AD position here is one of the most coveted in the country. Lack of facilities, space and money definitely hold us back. We have a long way to go if we want to be considered an elite athletic school. Despite our obstacles, we are very good, just not elite, yet. Wait and see. Let's give him a chance. There hasn't even been an official release yet.

blog.cleveland.com/sports/2008/07/pd_fie_photocleveland_state_at.html"When I started, my thought was this place had a lot of potential," said Reed, who was hired in August 2002. "But it's always had a lot of potential. This was not like Ohio State, where they think national championships. We don't have what they have. "But we have enough to be successful in the Horizon League to compete for championships in most sports, if not all. I knew it would take time to get things in order."

One or two years ago, they upset Syracuse with a miracle shot at the buzzer. Good enough in my book.

JTIII runs the basketball program and everything about it. This guy will run the other sports. I am not an insider, but I'm guessing that JTIII will always report to the President and that the AD will work for JTIII in making sure that the administrative aspects of the basketball program run smoothly, not the other way around. A weird situation, but the alternative would have been to hire a big-time AD who would have to earn a lot of money and be the boss of JTIII - neither of which would be in the best interests of the men's basketball program or the school in my opinion (and the men's basketball program is the only program most people care about).

www.cleveland.com/sports/csu/index.ssf/2009/03/cleveland_state_ad_lee_reed_re.htmlThis is a complimentary article. He seems to have hired two excellent people in Mike Garland (from Michigan State) and Gary Waters (Kent State, Rutgers). Our choices were probably an AD at a school from a smaller conference or an Associate AD from somewhere else. Based on his cv and accomplishments, it seems he was definitely worth interviewing. So if he impressed the committee, he could be an excellent hire. I can't say I agree with the apparent snobbery of thebin's post, but maybe I am misunderstanding his tone.

I realize this is still anonymous sourcing, but what the hey! My guy (or is it gal?!!?) has met and spoken with Reed, and he (or she?) is confident that Hoyas will be impressed and excited to have him on the team. Combined with generally good press coming out of Cleveland, I don't see any reason to discount him as a good leader of the AD.
At the very least, we'll have an actual Athletic Director, and that's gotta count for something, right?

At least it sounds like Reed will come in the door not looking for his next job before he even gets here.
