Thanks, John. Good luck.
I am foolishly assuming that Reed is ambitious, wants to succeed on the big stage, is over-joyed to be in the Big East.
I also assume that he has sufficient managerial skills to get stuff done. We have no idea what the politrics of CSU are. Could be meaner.
The big BUT is: can he ramp up at sufficient velocity to get his arms around the situation to get this stuff done.
Important bullet-points already made: Big East food fight; facilities for ALL teams; financial packages/aid.
As to so-called minor sports. let's not try to balance the budget there. A strong argument can be made that Andrew Campbell and Charlie Buckingham are the greatest GU athletes of this decade.

Suggestion to Mods: move this to GU Sports.
When was the last time we had a good old chin-wag about the purpose of the athletic program in the big picture?
All students should play games. Lord knows I did. Sports too.

The archived webcast of the morning press conference is here: explore.georgetown.edu/news/?ID=50509Question 1 of the Reed Era is as to the practice facility at the 14 minute mark. Question 2 is on football. Well-worth the listen for the responses to these questions. Kudos to Liz Clarke and the reporter from the Hoya for asking them. Reed seems to have a good handle on how things work, which is reflected in his guarded responses. Who the hell are all those people at this "press conference" I can understand Voice, Hoya, some GU staff, MAYBE Post, but who else, this isnt Notre Dame or Florida or something Also was it really necessary to have the PR guy introduce Porterfield just to introduce DeGoia who finally introduced Reed??

Let's give him time to get the practice facility. If this is a priority, then "let the fundraising begin"

He should have done more to keep Monroe.... hm If we had a better football team, Monroe would have stayed. Better facilities would have kept Monroe too. AD has got to take responsibility for this one

Issue One: Facilities. Georgetown needs $100 million in facilities upgrades now...not 2015, not 2020, now. None of CSU's somewhat limited facilities were built under Reed's watch, and his budget was only 235th in Division I. He needs to be able to walk into offices and secure seven and eight figure gifts. When? Now. This is why I posted this quote from the Cleveland newspaper back on Page 1: blog.cleveland.com/sports/2008/07/pd_fie_photocleveland_state_at.html"When I started, my thought was this place had a lot of potential," said Reed, who was hired in August 2002. "But it's always had a lot of potential. This was not like Ohio State, where they think national championships. We don't have what they have. "But we have enough to be successful in the Horizon League to compete for championships in most sports, if not all. I knew it would take time to get things in order." There's no doubt there is a facilities crisis at Georgetown. While GU's national reputation is surely superior to that of Cleveland State, the Vikings' "somewhat limited facilities" are more or less on par with the Hoyas'. www.csuvikings.com/facilities/clst-facilities.htmlwww.guhoyas.com/facilities/gu-facilities.htmlEveryone has great things to say about Reed, but those great things seem to focus on CSU's W/L record on his watch. I haven't heard much about Reed's reputation for getting facilities built, increasing donations, or funding athletic scholarships. Georgetown needs to win, but it also needs to catch up to its peers in terms of basic athletics infrastructure. The quote above: "We don't have what [Ohio State has]," could refer to Georgetown just as easily as it could Cleveland State. The question becomes: does the administration simply expect a better overall winning percentage, despite facilities and lack of institutional support, from Reed? Or does it expect him to build, to solicit, and to make Georgetown athletics sustainable for the future? I realize I'm analyzing one isolated quote in one isolated newspaper article. And Reed may have done fabulous things at CSU for athletic scholarships -- I just haven't heard about it. I hope that Mr. Reed has taken this job because Georgetown athletics also has "a lot of potential." However, unlike Cleveland State, I believe that potential encompasses much more than winning percentage. As DFW points out, the new AD needs our support to achieve this potential in facilities and scholarships. I've got a check for him as soon as he announces the new capital campaign for the practice facility.
