Great article, gsurus. Of note: - He's 6'6" in this, so he's growing even faster!
Actually, it gets better!
"He has a very smooth game," Pitts said. "Athletically, he's a freak. When they measured him (at Georgetown) he is 6-6 and his wingspan is 6-11. Standing flat-footed, his reach is 8-8. This kid is the perfect body type, and he is athletic.
- "The whole way they run their program, it's so tight-knit," Pitts said of Georgetown. "The way Coach Thompson runs his program is sort of like his father did. The kid said it just blew him away. The history of the school, the historic buildings. Everywhere you look around, you see former players.
...the academics are second to none…. Every kid that has come through there has graduated from college, and with Aaron's parents, that was it right there. That was big."

After watching the video zxhoya posted on the first page, I'm excited about Aaron's commitment and our 2010 class. Bowen looks like he's going to be a good one--I'm not going to try and judge his height, but you can definitely see that he has Clark-like long arms.
[Aaron Bowen's #24 in blue and Nate Lubick is #34 in white]

He is No. 24 correct? If so, other than two dunks, what exactly are people seeing that is that great. It really seems to be a highlight reel for No. 35.

Qunicy Miller, a top 10 player in '11. I think he's mentioned us, but people seem to think it's more of a Duke-Kentucky race. Not sure why aside from he's really, really good.

Love the wingspan and athleticism of this kid...will fit right in with Clark, Hollis and Vee from a body type standpoint. Wonder if that will mean more zone defense in the future, we've seen what having length on the perimeter can do for Syracuse this season.
I wouldn't get too excited about Miller...will be stunned if he doesn't go to Kentucky. He's BFFs with John Wall, who in his 1 year of Kentucky will have been showcased enough to be the #1 pick in the draft. Miller wants to get to the league as quickly as possible as a 3/4 hybrid...not saying Georgetown wouldn't be a great fit, but Calipari will sell him on the dribble drive and it will be all over.

Evidently Reiss was not part of Bowen's campus tour.

tihoya, I can read the title. My question is not who the video was about but what in it was getting people so excited about Bowen?

If you have a rivals suscription the video they have on there, I see why Marquette wanted him. He plays kinda like that Crean type player, 6'6 player who can play many spots and is real quick. Kid looks like he has a lethal pull up that he loves to use.

No problem. I am a diehard and I guess after all the posts I got on expecting to see more of his play. Listen, if Marquette is recruiting a guard then I trust they saw something worhty of D I playing time. My fear is that I do not want to "waste" any more scholarships on players who are never really going to be major contributors and then transfer--Nikita and Wattad. It hurts the program and creates a negative image for future recruiting.

I am delighted he is coming and hope for the best. However, aside from Bowen the individual -- and hopefully Moses too, we should be concerned that for two years in a row the Hoyas are getting commits from kids at the last minute. They will be on campus in July. It's March now. 4 months (or less) before they are due to show up, we suddenly sign kids no one's heard of. Vee, Jerrelle, Aaron and maybe Moses. Hey, maybe all 4 will pay off big time. But as far as recruiting strategy and execution are concerned, these are 4 straight "Hail Mary's" because we are running out of time and we missed on all of our primary targets. THAT should be of concern to everyone who follows GU and I am sure it is to JT3 too. Starks, Lubick -- those guys came in under the normal process. Jordan Goodman came in WAY early. Good. Great! Targeting kids like Christmas, Johnson, Cook, Hopkins -- that is what we should be doing and we need to start closing some of those kinds of kids.

It hurts the program and creates a negative image for future recruiting. Point taken. But I wouldn't worry. From what little we have seen, he seems to be skilled, and a likely good fit. I am glad to have Aaron as a Hoya. Also, I would not worry about "wasting" a scholarship at this point. I would doubt that there are many or any schools that have gotten by using as few scholarships as we have the past 2 years. Granted, much of that has been because of transfers and early departures which are hard to predict. Recruiting can be hit or miss, and I think you have to just keep adding players - often more than you think you need. I am looking forward to having more depth, and more flexibility than we have had in a while.

I think it's clear that we are targeting those types of kids. For example, if we had signed Roscoe or Kendrick, both of whom we pursued with great vigor, we would most likely not have signed Bowen. Unfortunately, we aren't North Carolina or Duke, and we don't rope in three Mickey D's every year. It doesn't mean we aren't trying. As for Bowen, it does sound as though he's not Wattad or Nikita. Also, I hope he's really 6'6", and not 6'3". That would be a good thing.

I, for one, do not know who, other than Roscoe (which was pretty obvious), were our primary targets. Was it Thorton or Hairston or Jones or Kelly? JT3 and staff keep it pretty close to their chests. And, after the Roscoe 100% guarantee fiasco, I'm relying on the so-called gurus with a bucket of salt. I'll agree that Vee and JB were Hail Marys; Aaron and Moses, not so sure. In fact, it's early compared to Vee's and JB's commitments. JT3 should have a plan instead of having to scramble at the last minute. Maybe JT3 needs to reevaluate his recruiting staff and strategy to cover more ground. It seems as if some recruiting staff members focused on one or two players who ended up going somewhere else and missed the boat on other recruits.
