yeah we were down 1 with 10 secs left and wright let it go from 4 ft behind the nba line. he was wide open but itsbe cause he was so far away. so if he shot it from center court and was wide open it was a fine shot???
this comes after he left his man to get the rebound and the go ahead basket at the other end. i mean we were up by 1 all we had to do was grab the friggin rebound. no excuse for leaving ur man unchecked.
but if daytona says we were down by 3 and it was a fine shot then how dare we think otherwise as he is always right.

His feet were practically on the line on that three attempt, what are you talking about Pope? And I am pretty sure Chris was on the other side of the court when that shot when up and it was Gregs man that go the rebound. Did you watch the game?

my fault. We were down one.
The shot was still a good one, though. Chris has been playing well this year, I'll take that shot anytime.
And Pope - You're constant baiting of me, on the board and through personal message is played, and quite amusing. Grow up.

Did you watch the game? just look at the replay on espn. they even show it in slow mo for you. chris was several feet beyond the nba line. it was not a good shot. we would have been better calling a time out as we clearly were flustered on that last second possession. hope we remember that for the future. as for the rebound, they also show that in slow mo. commentators even said no one got a body on miller. monroe was guarding the shooter. miller was wrights man. miller crashed the boards all the way from the corner 3 point line. while chris didnt crash the boards. how you dont crash the boards up 1 with 20 seconds to go i dont know.

Down 1 under 20 seconds you take the first good shot that shows in the flow. Chris had a dead-on look that he missed badly. If Jason does not reach in from behind, Greg ties up the rebound and we get the alternate possession. Even then, we had two more opportunities to tie even though Rutgers made four straight free throws. I would take the shot Chris took every time and would only call a timeout if we were floundering. A made three would have meant that even if Rutgers made two, we get overtime. I would not force a three for that reason, but would not hesitate to take a look that good.
Chris needs a visit with lic to get his confidence back. February is a bad time to lose it.
P.S. Pope--does the RAC have an NBA line. It has a men's and women's line. I don't have time to look at the replay, but I thought it was a pretty straight-forward 3-point shot in real time.

I am not making excuses for the young man, but Doris Burke called it last week when she said that the Hoyas simply do not have a backup for Chris at the PG position. He is the only true PG on this team. The system may facillitate forwards getting a lot of assists comparable to a point guard, but there are other things a true point guard does that can't be duplicated from the forward position. The ability to break the press with a strong dribble, the ability to drive to the basket with a strong dribble without getting ball stripped and finish or pass to open man and ability to hit the open 3 from deep. Chris has to bring it every night or this team could lose to anyone. The teams that win the NCAA usually have two things (1) a dominant big man and (2) a dominant PG. Both don't have to be dominant each game of the schedule but they must have the potential to be if necessary in a close game. There is no other guard on this team that can do all three of the things mentioned earlier. Freeman is a very good 2 guard and Clark is a good combo guard with some but not all PG abillities. Have not seen enough of Vee but he looks like a combo guard also. Wrights game is high energy, pushing the ball up court probbing the defense for a drive to the basket. That takes a lot of energy every night and some nights when playing a lesser opponent the human response may be to try to rest a little bit that night and let Monroe be the facillatator and Freeman and Clark be the scorers. Oh, did I mention that Wright gets the most back door layups from passes from big men than anyone else. This requires constant movement to set up your man for hard backdoor cut and finish. In the perfect world Markel would have been here this year to play with Monroe and Wright and could give Chris some rest in games like Rutgers, ODU, and SFU but we don't live in a perfect world so when this kid is not having his normal high energy PG game this team will suffer.

Chris was a step behind the 2nd line (which was the NCAA Men's line). Let's stop resorting to hyperbole and remember that if it went in, you wouldn't be calling it a half-court heave.

Georgetown coach John Thompson III had no problem with Wright's late 3-point attempt.
"I told them during the timeout if Rutgers scores, get it and push it and see what we had, if I didn't like what I saw I would call a timeout," he said. "We had a 2-on-1 on that side of the court. ... Chris got a wide-open shot that he could make and the ball just didn't go in."

Why are we not complaining about Greg's 3 point shot? Chris' shot did not leave a mismatch of rebounding inside.

The problem yesterday was not Chris' shot down one at the end of the game (count me among those who'd have rather seen him dribble in then shoot or pass to Monroe, but it wasn't technically a bad shot). The problem was on the defensive end and particularly with getting out on the 3-point shooters, too much hedging without help coverage getting there quickly enough, and giving up far too many offensive rebounds to Rutgers. The Hoyas shot 50% and scored plenty of points - they did not get stops when it counted.

down 1 you dont take a 3-point shot that has ~33% chance of going in over a 2-point shot with a 50% chance of going in or drawing a foul. why trade a lower % and a chance to lose for a point you dont need to win?
if you are down 2, i can understand taking the lower % 3-point shot for a chance to win and avoid overtime, but not when down only 1 and with 15 secs left on the clock and when monroe was owning the paint.
its the context of that point in the game. as michaelgraham said why not call the timeout?

Oldhoyafan's point is the key. Chris seems to be breaking down from his minutes. JT3 seems to be letting him play off the ball a little more because he sees the same thing. The problem is I think CW plays worse when he is not the primary ball handler. The guy plays at one speed and is easily our busiest player on the court for all the reasons OldHoya pointed out (although Clark is clearly second).
Next season, it should be a joy to watch how much more effective Chris will be with Markel spotting him 10 minutes a game at the point. It is too bad, for this year at least, Chris is going to have to find that second wind and recover. I think he will, but sitting him some extended minutes and letting Austin and Jason run the show may be an option in the near term. Chris is in a tough spot right now, the team NEEDS him at his best, but the kid is only human.

Imagine the reaction on this board had Chris made that open three. Or if Greg made his three.

I sat directly behind the bench and Chris Wright's body language was terrible the entire game. Every time he was taken out he was sulking and stomping around on the sideline. Immature player. I saw the same thing but I sure felt like he was upset at himself for playing so poorly. Not sure how that equates to immaturity?
