It's annoying and some of it is dirty (i.e., Scottie leaning in; in soccer, it would be an automatic yellow card), but it's part of the strategy. It's like a tougher Duke team, with Scottie=Jon Scheyer and King=Thomas (well, King went to the Coach Kryskekyksheski School of Flop & Whine).
To beat Nova, you have to get ahead early by a comfortable margin and make your FTs. In our first game, we got behind and could never catch up late in the game because Wright used another strategy: if a GU player had the ball and had beaten the Nova player across the half-court line, the GU player was fouled so we couldn't get a three off and had to win it from the FT. Wright was willing to make it a FT contest instead of letting us hit the 3s to cut the lead. Since they're a very good FT shooting team with good guard depth, it worked. We were trading FTs instead of 3s. BTW, that's not cheating.

What I do have a problem with is when the officiating let's Nova get away with it. I rarely complain about the officiating, but I thought the second half of the Nova game was abysmal and the refs were the only thing that prevented Nova from getting utterly destroyed in that game. In addition to the hacking of Vaughn, there were tons of uncalled muggings (for example, the play when Wright fouled out was preceded by someone from GU (Clark?) getting blatantly fouled but no call was made). The fouls they got away with were atrocious -- I was yelling at my TV for a good part of that second half. The game is much better to watch, and no doubt play, when fouls are called the same from the first half to the second, and from one end of the court to the other. For all of its faults, the USF game at least allowed both teams to beat the heck out of each other equally, and I was pleased to see our guys adapt that night to the loose officiating. Heck, I can still cling to the notion that III asked Wednesday's officials to call the game that way just to prep the team for Saturday's horsehockey. Speaking of which, is Brian O'Connell generally considered to be in Cahill/Shaw territory already, or am I alone in finding him one of the most obnoxious preeners on the court?? (and no, before anyone asks, I don't really care what our W-L total is with him out there).
