Tell me if I'm wrong but a loss to a unranked team at home without one of their best players is a bad loss. Teams under JT3 just aren't mentally tough.

You're right about #1. You're wrong about #2. How soon we forget...

Yea, never met any mentally weaker team than the JTIII teams from 06-08.

Totally agree hardwoodhoya. Everybody jumped on me for saying this team was soft and lacked mental toughness after they lost to Syracuse, but this is inexcusable!

JTIII told us so. "this team can beat anybody, but we can lose to anybody on our schedule" How true.

Yea, never met any mentally weaker team than the JTIII teams from 06-08. [In my recollection they never won a single close game. Or at least no important one.]

I'm not sure if it's mental toughness or physical toughness that is sometimes lacking, but it does seem that we are inconsistent. Finesse type teams in most sports are prone to that. When we are clicking, it's awesome, but when we are not - its godawful and hard to watch.

Is this thread completely sarcastic? I hope so.
We fell into a trap game fellas, this is a classic case. They exist for a reason, because good teams get caught looking behind at their accomplishments and ahead at their big game in 3 days and in between a little start-up team that had won 4 fo 5 in the conference comes in and takes their ball away while their not looking.

How good are we? We're 6-4, and right in the middle of the pack. Can easily be 6-5 with 2 road games after.
Forget this idea of a "trap" game -- we are not good enough for that to apply.

Duke is not that good. Beating them was nice, but not the be all, end all everyone thought it was. Winning against an inferior team at home was the be all, end all for tonight. We got "trapped" between Duke and Nova. JT3 must not let this happen. Making FTs would help a lot though.

the Duke game really didn't mean anything, because we beat Duke, which isn't that great of team. but because Duke's legacy over the years, it still means something to teams' fanbases' when they are beaten.
but the reality, is Duke isn't that great. And Coach K has been going through the motions with that program since he won his last title there.
South Florida is probably a better team than Duke right now, and playing much better basketball.
Wake up folks, we aren't invincible because we beat a mediocre Duke team.
And when you have a young group of players (and the fans) its hard for them to understand that night in and night out, you have to bring a consistent level of intensity, regardless of who your opponent is, or you will get beat. Especially in the Big East. We've won one more game in the Big East than South Florida has, and its a shock we lost to them?

Geez, we are a Top 10 RPI team. We have some great OOC wins, but we are not a good team? Has anyone thought that perhaps we lost to a tournament team tonight? If their name was not USF, with their body of work to date at 15-7, they are in the NCAAs. This notion that somehow it is an embarassment to lose to this USF team is a bit presumptious for a bunch pretty smart people on this board. YOu guys act like we just lost to Valdosta State.

First, 6-4 in the Big East is good. Not great, not special, but its pretty good. Second, since when do trap games apply to only good teams? Any team can easily fall into a trap game, unless you are really really bad. Do you think we are really really bad?

It was a bad loss, and a loss that a Top 20 team should not have. But, please spare the mental tougness crap. Why is it that wins like the one AT Pitt and losses like playing Nova very tough at Nova are not indicative of mental toughness? Only the bad losses count (and there are three of them -- ODU, 'Cuse and USF) when analyzing mental toughness? Just shows your bias.

Duke's rankings/ratings of note:RPI # 4 Pomeroy # 2 Sagarin # 3 AP Poll # 10 Coaches Poll # 9 Agree that beating Duke is not the be all and end all, but to say that "Duke is not that good" is just a silly statement.

I really could care less about the RPI, other than that it will help us with seeding. I don't get excited about a top 10 RPI when we are just above .500 in conference.

If you want to call it a bad loss, that's fine, but harping on the fact that we are "only" 6-4 in the BE is silly. Two of those losses were to the #2 and #3 team in the country in their gyms.

Ok, Yeah it was a bad loss and we came out with very little second half fire, but Really the sky is not falling here.
We come out this weekend with intensity and a sense of desperation. We beat NOva.
This season has been all we could ask for. Weve won our home and neutral site games and won the games on the road we should win. This yes is the exception.. Loss hurts, but this doesnt seem to be the trend this year just an anomoly..
