They had Gus Gilchrist as their other big post presence, but he's out for a while now (injured I think). So this game is going to come down to limiting Jones and trying to get some offense against a very physical team.

Don't know a ton about USF, but looking through their box scores a couple things pop out...
1. Dominique Jones is playing as well as anyone in the country. He is averaging like 35 ppg. over his last three and is shooting well over 50% in those games. We have to shut him down. He is 6'4" 205 and I think Clark can match up well with him. We have to be focused on shutting him down.
2. USF basically plays a 6 man rotation. They are very thin on the front line and I think we could potentially get them into a lot of trouble if some of their big guys get into foul trouble. Famous looks like he has some offensive game, but their big men basically look like they just rebound and take up space while the guards do all the scoring.
3. They have the potential to get the FT line a lot. There are a lot of games recently where they have shot 30+ FT. I assume this means like to drive to the hole. Hopefully we can keep them out of the lane and keep them off the line.
Play our game and we pull out a good win at the booth.

I feel a lot better that this game is at home. USF seems like a dangerous team this season and down there could be tough to handle. They have shown themselves to be good enough to get the Hoyas attention and the inevitable letdown from Duke cannot be too deep or long, or else this game will get too interesting.

I've only seen the Pitt game but I came away impressed. Jones is extremely talented and has an NBA ready body. Austin matches up well with him size-wise but I expect them to put Jason on him first. They're decently long and they do have some athletes. They do not have much size but some of their big men are decently skilled. They are a bit sloppy on the perimeter with theier passing and outside of Jones don't shoot particularly well from three so we'll have an advantage there.

No, he won't from what I've read.
Gus is a good player, and he had great stats to start the year, but most of those were against cream-puffs (although he had good games against legit teams as well).
Monster is a strong word, though.

kenpom.com/team.php?team=South%20Floridanot sure how a team that has average offensive and defensive ratings, doesn't force turnovers, doesn't shoot the 3 well, and isn't amazing at crashing the boards is going to beat us if we show up. As good at getting to the line as they are 26th in the nation, we are just as good at not sending teams to the line 25th in the nation. And they nullify one of their best weapons by shooting under 70% from the line and slightly under the national average. Looking at their win loss split in the BE they definitely play better at home 3-2 with a 1pt loss to ND and a loss to WV and 1-3 on the road with the one win being in 2OT @ providence the next closest is an 8 pt loss @ cinci othere two games were blow outs how pathetic is the ACC that this team destroyed Virginia.

I'd be more worried if this one were on the road -- their building has a funny vibe, like an airport hangar.

After the emasculation of Duke, I don't worry about this team playing down against anyone. As low as they guys must have felt after Cuse, Duke was a wake-up call for this team. This team can go far if they play to their potential by distributing the ball, taking quality shot and playing tough D. With revenge games coming up, I expect our guys to be hyped regardless of the opponent. We still need to improve and the only way to do that is by bringing the effort on every game day. I'm bearish on the Bulls chances. HOYA SAXA!

Apparently Gilchrist was supposed to be back for our game but now it looks like more likely he won't be back till next week. At least according to south florida boards.

In my experience, "trap" games are virtually always road games. I know we don't have the confidence in the home court advantage the way Syracuse or Pitt or Louisville or Marquette fans do, but I don't think it can be dismissed. If you throw out last season (which I think is justifiable because there was a whole lotta unprecedented stuff wrong with that team), JTIII teams have lost only 2 home Big East games since 2005. Even if you count last season, III's teams have only 2 "bad" home conference losses during his entire coaching tenure--Cincinnati last year and Providence to nail the coffin in the last 2005 regular season game. In other words, if we aren't in the middle of some unforgettable collapse, we don't lose games like this. I expect the gang to come out and play, and barring outrageous foul trouble, take care of business.

USF is 14th in the country at FT% defense. They must work really hard on that in practice.

Trap game is always a misnomer, in my opinion, but we've definitely had some duds in Verizon, and two of those came against USF. We didnt lose, but it wasnt so comfortable, even for the 2007 Final Four team, if I recall. ON EDIT - I guess that was the 2008 team, not 2007. I put USF in the same class with SJU. Some times, you look back and wonder why we ever thought the game would be close, but other times, we are sweating out the last 5 minutes of a 5 point game.
