We start three juniors. You can say that two of them only have two years in our system, but that's not young. Maybe not "veteran," but at least average.

We are the second youngest BE team (Pitt is the youngest).
Also, in addition to being young eligibility-wise, it seems like a lot of our players are young for their classes (especially to teams like Cuse that have 25 year old juniors). This isn't an excuse for losing last night, but it definitely is a disadvantage to the team.

I don't want to get in the middle of dynasty and Mass' little pi$$ing contest, but they both make good points. Sure, making the shots under the stress of a tight game isn't as easy as it looks. Understood. Also, making shots when you are tired is more difficult. Also understood. That being said, the 15 foot shot with nobody defending and essentially at your own pace is easy. Yes, guys should knock them down with a high frequency. Roughly 50% is NOT acceptable. You can now both go about your bickering.

Or, you know, we're not average, but are instead 293rd. Sorry if you don't understand or are afraid of statistics, but seriously. There are 292 teams with more experience, including EVERY TEAM IN THE BIG EAST. kenpom.com/height.php?s=ExpRank

Considering how frequently experience gets brought up, and how bored I was in class, I decided to do a modified Experience run for a few teams. KenPom does (Minute Pct.) * (Class Year). I decided to do (BE Minute Pct.) * (Career minutes). I think these better represent lineup and overall experience, respectively.
KenPom Marquette 2.18 Connecticut 1.84 Pitt 1.41 Georgetown 1.33
Mine UConn 1653 Marquette 1616 GU 1472 Pitt 1117
So although we're ".85 years" younger than Marquette, in reality we're about 3.5 games younger (about 10% of a season). And even though Pitt is "older" than we are, they're really about 9 games younger. To suggest that we are somehow the least experienced team in the Big East is a stretch of the truth at best.
(In the very unlikely event anyone wishes to run this themselves, I subtracted 40 from everyone else's total, so these are totals through 21 games this season because we've played 21 while everyone else on that list has played 22).

You statisticians take all the fun out of a thread. I prefer three or more people being able to take opposite opinions and letting them duke it out as long as they wish. That way they all come away fulfilled, rather than someone actually proving a point. Go away. Are you a Commie, or what?

The year we went to the final four we started three juniors and two sophomores, same as this year.

Quick answer to question: Why did Benimon play 19 minutes?
When JB is in, Greg plays the 5. When JV is in Greg plays the 4.
The reason we didn't go to Greg as much in the post to start the second half is that Greg was playing the 4--and therefore out on the wing and the offense wasn't running through him in the high or low posts as much. He gets the ball at the top of the key much more frequently with this lineup.
Not sure if it's too late in the season, but I'd like to see the offense run through Greg even when JB is in the game. The offense ran through Jeff when he was playing the 4, so it's possible. May just be too complicated to try to do learn/run different wrinkles.
Other quick points: 1) JC played some really good defense. 2) Haven't seen the replay, but Greg's 5th looked bogus from my seat. Not a difference maker. 3) Difference maker was intensity. The only game we've lost this year where we looked intense the whole game was Marquette. I know we're aiming for an even keel, but given the results, I say it's time to show some passion. 4) No fast breaks at all this game--Chris wasn't pushing the tempo at all. Figured this must be by design? 5) When we have 5 offensive threats on the floor (i.e. the starters), doubles on Greg aren't worrisome, because no one can help without leaving a threat open. Unfortunately, because of the lineup situation explained above, Greg is most likely to be doubled down low when JB or HT is on the floor--given the other team the perfect person to ignore. 6) I thought the offense/defense subs for HT (offense to stretch the floor) / JB (defense to get boards) near the end of game was smart. Not enough to help, but a smart play.

The Final Four was actually three juniors, a sophomore and a freshman (Summers).

Yes, but on the 2007 team, Wallace and Green were in their third year of starting, as opposed to just Freeman this year.
Of course, Summers was a freshman, and neither he nor Sapp we starters from day one (I think Crawford and Eggerson were on the court for the opening tip of the season) so I guess the comparison is pretty valid.

Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but am I the only one who really, really dislikes Dominique Jones now? Even after sleeping off the pain of defeat?
While they were shooting the game clinching free throws, Jones was openly jawing at the (non-pepband) student section. And I don't just mean yelling... there were words. It was a conversation. Considering the things we were yelling back, maybe we deserved it. But I can't remember the last time I saw a player do that.
I mean, in the past few years we've talked about the character failings of A.J. Price and Devo. And Pitt chest bumping at center court wasn't exact classy. However, celebrating with your teammates, though annoying, can't be thought of as unsportsmanlike.
But Jones brought it to a different level. Yelling at the crowd? Asking us if we were "happy to have watched him play?"
This might be surprising, but Jones has reached a level of hatred that an opposing player hasn't reached in as long as I've been a Hoya fan.
I kinda hope he blows his knee out. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
