Clearly Mr. Wise failed to attend the Pitt and Marquette games in '07. Not quite AS charged, but definitely worthy of mention. He attended that Marquette game and wrote a column about it too. If Wise wrote "almost four years" he almost assuredly is alluding to the GMU-UConn game from March 06. I don't think it's a slam on the Hoyas in any way, shape or form.

If Wise wrote "almost four years" he almost assuredly is alluding to the GMU-UConn game from March 06. I don't think it's a slam on the Hoyas in any way, shape or form. Wise makes direct mention of the George Mason game in the column (as well as the 2006 game against Duke) so there is little doubt what he was referring to. A poster on here felt though that there have been other games at the Verizon with atmospheres just as good since then. Anyway.....another link. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/30/AR2010013002432.html

I love this piece on Obama at the game. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4872529And this particular line is great: "After a referee made a call that went against Georgetown, an obscene chant was cut short after one student admonished another, 'Dude, the president of the United States is right there.' " Yeah, 'cause POTUS is never exposed to language that vile *cough* Rahm Emmanuel *cough*

Wise is sententious in the worst sense of the word IMHO Possibly. But when his writing is about the Hoyas - much like eating a Five Guys burger - it's a delicious if somewhat unhealthy exercise. Revel a little. In an unrelated note, the page of the game program that Obama and Biden are looking at in the photo on the front of the Wash Post sports section appears to be p. 64 (opposite the ESPNZone ad which is visible). P. 64 has the years 1907-1962 of GU basketball history. Any guess what they're laughing about? Tagliabue's rebound record? Henry Hyde defeating Mikan's DePaul team? Harry "Sky" Bassin's mad hops?

sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4872906Georgetown had 48 points in the paint to Duke's 24 and only relinquished the lead twice. Defensively, Georgetown had nine blocks and forced Duke into uncharacteristic mistakes and 15 turnovers. It's still early in the season, and Krzyzewski wouldn't go so far as to say Georgetown is a legitimate national title contender, though he did say, "they're really good."
"I don't think Georgetown is a powerhouse," Krzyzewski said. "You can't let one game define you either way."You stay classy, Coach K. To be fair, he said he didn't think Duke was a powerhouse either.

It is worth listening to K's entire postgame. He was gracious and classy. The stand-alone quote above was taken somewhat out of context and was probably an accurate statement about our team right now. We're a great team, but not yet in that discussion with Kentucky and Kansas, among others. We can be, but we have to show more.
On Edit: To be clear, I don't necessarily think K would be as gracious off camera, especially while talking with recruits. The system is far less appetizing then for some reason.

I thought that for a minute Ambassador, but then I heard JTIII referring to them as a great team and I thought, gosh, that is so much classier. He remains a Krzyzhead.
Also, the issue of turn around time is ridiculous - we played SU 49 hours after RU and (I think mistakenly) spent two nights in 'cuse getting ready. They fly a private charter that was probably like 1 hour - when you are that soft it is no wonder your players are soft. Whatever nice things he said were more the result of having been tazed all afternoon on the court, the rest is pure Classless Krzyzhead. Oh, and one last thing - if nobody laughs at your joke, don't say "That was a joke" - obviously it was not, whatever it was intended to be, it was not a joke.

I like the observation about Rahm being in mid-scream. Guess he is a Hoya supporter? (His alma mater is Sarah Lawrence(?!) fwiw). jamesfallows.theatlantic.com/archives/2010/01/presidential_hoops_cont.phpThe place was packed and going nuts from beginning to end. The crowd was at least 90/10 Georgetown, with most people wearing the gray Georgetown T-shirts left at each seat, to create a "gray-out" effect. If you look at the people behind Obama and Biden in this picture (including a mid-scream Rahm Emanuel) you get a fair sample of the prevailing mood.
...
UPDATE: I am informed that the cheering, Biden-looking person next to Joe Biden was not Beau but his other son, Hunter. Who is a Hoya alum. This makes better sense now! Beau Biden's school associations are with U Penn and (gasp) Syracuse, neither of which produces big Georgetown-loyalists.

Hail to the Hoyas - Durham News ObserverEXCERPTS WASHINGTON -- In many ways it was Duke's most important game of the season, and it went spectacularly awry. The eighth-ranked Blue Devils were playing at No. 7 Georgetown in what might be their only game against a top-10 opponent all season.
"They were just able to do whatever they wanted," Duke forward Kyle Singler said of Georgetown. "They were just sharper with everything, offensively and defensively."
It was the best field-goal performance by a Duke opponent in 44 years. UCLA, with a 73.3 percent effort on Dec. 10, 1965, holds the record for the best shooting against the Blue Devils.

I love how someone named Graham Hough-Cornwell is slamming fans for their sense of entitlement. Did he make that post from the country club, his yacht, or his home on Martha's Vineyard?
