Hopkins only had 7 points last night in a Dematha win against Mount St. Joseph. Grant led the team with 17. Robinson only had 6 pts.

Washington Post has him preseason second team in DC area. We are going to need some more scorers next year with Austin, Chris and Julian gone.

Scorers, that's one of my concerns going forward. I think next season we'll be fine with Jason still in the fold but i'd like one of our three open scholarships to go to a lights out shooter. 1-1-1....is what i'd like. 1 big, 1 wing and 1 guard.

I'm talking out to 2012. We got 7 scholarship players and add 3 recruits. 3 spots, with 1 being available for 2011 if needed.

With Bolden ('12) taking one, we have one available for '11 and another for '12, or both could be used for '12 players.

Crap. I was just reading up on Bolden too and forgot to add him. I still want another guard.

Went to the Mount St. Joe's - DeMatha game this past Saturday. Took a few more vids, just got around to uploading them. I arrived with about a minute left in the first quarter, and my boy, who was already at the game, told me Hopkins did a lot of damage inside prior to my arrival. This was his first time seeing Mikael this season and he was awfully impressed with his hands, and I must agree.
For the most part, it was business as usual for Mikael, James Robinson and Jerami Grant. However, sophomore PG Jairus Lyles was once again very impressive. He has a solid handle, is athletic, nice frame, energetic on both ends of the floor, good floor vision and can score when he wants. He's someone to definitely keep an eye on down the road.

Thanks again deacon. What is up with Dematha players missing dunks?! Against Coolidge, it was Anya. Against St. Joe's, it was Mikael and Jerami (at least you ended your clips with an Anya dunk).
Like I said after watching your last clips, really like Lyles. Is he a legit 6'2 as listed because he looks more than an inch shorter than Robinson? Bell played some scrappy ball as well in the videos.
Jerami looked smooth out there (needs to start bulking up). Mikael looked bored.

Also, Dematha crushed Don Bosco on Monday night 105-45. James Robinson scored 18, Jairus Lyles 17 and Jerami Grant's 16.
Lyles is leading the team in scoring right now with 12.7 points a game.
Next up: Archbishop Carroll on Thursday night.

They are in only their 2nd year as a Varsity Basketball program, and their best player from last year transferred to: DeMatha. He didn't make the DeMatha varsity, but he was pretty smooth. He actually scored 30 pts against DeMatha in DBCR's first ever varsity game one year ago. Don't remember his name, but I'll be surprised if he doesn't make the DeMatha varsity by his Senior season (I think he's a junior now).

I'd say Lyles is a legit 6'0" right now, but he has time to grow. He's stepped right in for Cook and done a great job. I like Robinson, but if I could choose one player on that team to become a Hoya, it would be him. Bell can really shoot it. He'll make a fine long-range marksman at a mid-major.

FWIW, people said Monroe looked bored out there as well.

Mikael had 12 pts, 12 boards, and 6 blocks in limited time due to foul trouble (14 minutes) in DeMatha's win last night over Reggie Williams and Carroll.

Went to the DeMatha-St.Vincent-St. Mary's game last night as part of the National High School Hoops Festival at DeMatha.
For some reason, Mikael didn't last night. He wasn't injured, and I haven't seen anything in print as to why, but he didn't start. He came in the game at about the 3-minute mark of the first quarter, and after he got in, played aggressively and with the kind of urgency that he needs to take his game to the next level. He scored in the post with ease, rebounded and ran the court with fervor. Again, I don't know why he didn't start and I could speculate, but he played like he had a chip on his shoulder.
Mikael won't put up eye-popping numbers because he doesn't get fed in the post - or on the break - as much as he should. I counted six times last night where he could have had an easy bucket if someone on DeMatha just made the extra pass, but I'm guessing he still finished with a double-double.
Once again, sophomore PF Jairus Lyles was the best player on the floor. He's more of a 2 than a 1 at this point, but there's nothing that he doesn't do well. If missing on James Robinson meant getting Lyles, sign me up. He should definitely be a priority going forward and it was good to see Kenya Hunter and Darryl Prue front and center watching him in action last night.
Also, watched the Paul VI - Benedectine (Va.) game as well and Paul VI has at least five D1 underclassmen, led by soph. swing Stanford Robinson and junior PF Coleman Johnson. I really like both of these kids and are names to remember.

I was at the DeMatha at Bishop Ireton game last night, which DeMatha won 63-53. Hopkins had 18 points in a very impressive/fundamentally sound performance. Ireton plays a tough 2-3 zone all the time (sound familiar?), which gave area No. 3 Episcopal fits last week, and what was most impressive about Hopkins last night was his passing to beat that zone: a couple whip-quick passes from the wing right on the money into the low post; two really nice interior "make the extra pass" plays for lay-ups/dunks; and a couple quick kick-outs for open looks by the guards. His points were from the line (where his stroke was smooth and he was probably about 7 for 8), and a few dunks and putbacks (Ireton has no size -- can't tell much from the interior play last night). What impressed about Hopkins last night was the fundamentally sound/no-flash team player style -- was on the right spot on the floor all the time, looked to make the pass, didn't pick up stupid fouls (only had one all night, in about 25 minutes), ran within the offense and stayed home on defense while helping as needed on the wing (had a few nice flashes out to the perimeter without fouling that scared the bejesus out of Ireton's shooter). I had seen him play last year a few times but didn't pay much attention (hard not to watch Quinn Cook then), but my impression after last night was that he is PERFECT for JT III and our program . . .

Mikael's gonna have to step his game up and be a difference maker for DeMatha if he's to be first-team All-Met at the end of the season.
I'll say it again, and I know ships are tight, but Marcus Thornton is someone I would have loved to see in a Georgetown uni. William and Mary got a ballplayer.
