It's that time of year again.
Obviously the Notre Dame-Brian Kelly potential marriage is probably the hottest topic.
They just announced that Charlie Strong and the Louisville Athletic Director have agreed to terms in principle and they are waiting for final approval of the contract from the Louisville president and that a meeting is set for 3:30 tomorrow afternoon with a press conference to follow. In the words of the afternoon sportshow host, the next time the President doesn't approve such a contract will be the first in the history of earth, so the bottom line is that Charlie Strong will be the next head coach at Louisville. I wish him the best.
Post assorted rumors and/or links to the coaching carousel here.

And weirdest.
Someone hacked Kelly's twitter account, supposedly and has been tweeting about getting the ND job.

Obviously the Kelly to Notre Dame is now old news.
Here's one that I didn't see coming: Billy Gonzales, Florida's wide receivers' coach, is leaving to take a position at LSU, of all places. I didn't hear the official announcement, so I don't know if it's a lateral move or if maybe he's moving to become their OC. The oddity was that a lot of people were thinking that he might leave with Charlie Strong to become his OC at Louisville. Now he's going to LSU. Oh well, we are now squarely in the coaching carousel mode.
On Edit: I just heard that there was an opening at LSU because a coach had to resign amid a recruiting scandal of some part. As of now, Billy G. isn't signing on as the OC, but that Crotin (sp?), LSU's current OC, is catching some heat from LSU fans who were not happy with the offense. I don't know if that means there's some writing on the wall or not.
This just in: Meyer has hired Zack Azani (sp?) as WR coach. He was previously as Central Michigan, but they coached together for one season at Bowling Green.
On further Edit: Billy Gonzales was officially hired as "passing game coordinator."

Boz, give it time. Over the next couple of days we will see hirings and maybe some more firings. It's not the same as rivalry week, but until the real bowls get going, it's pretty much the only real CFB related news, but there will be enough of it to scatter on this dedicated thread. There has been every year. This year will be no different.

Until our coach is taken care of, I don't care. Speaking of ... any talk of Kelly's seat getting warm? (GU's Kelly, not Cincy's former coach Kelly)

Now you're playing along Boz. Well done. Yeah, you just be sure to let us all know if you re-sign your equipment manager and towel boy, or if Les Miles or Nick Saban steal them away from you.

BTW: I know coaches leave any place all the time a la Kelly.
HST: [here's my 'big but'] but what little respect I had for 'The Dome of the Rock' has faded.
If the ND AD had had any situational awareness or compassion for student athletes, he would have given Kelly, poor shmuck*, the direction to take care of his duty to his current kids in the up-coming post-season.
Isn't it fitting that this act of hubris occurs on the 83rd Anniversary weekend of N.D.'s loss to push-over Carnegie Tech because their vaunted coach took the $$$ to be elsewhere?
KR blew off coaching the game to pick up some quick media $$$ for covering the Army-Navy, 'Duty, Honor, Country' guys. Cost him big time. Well deserved.
I hope Kelly does so well that an NFL $$$ hires him halfway through a putative national championship.
I also look forward to the B'cats- Domers b'ball games, tennis matches, golf matches and co-ed rythmic dancing 'best-of-threes.'
I hereby place upon "the leaden dome", the Carnegie Tech Wins 'cause KR Goes to Chi. to Cover Army-Navy for the $$$ 83rd Anniversary Curse!!
* Kelly as 'poor shmuck' will be addressed upon request.

I think it's a bit unfair to give Kelly so much heat. I understand that it's a tough decision but one that most of us would jump at in a similar situation. As for the timing, while I understand that on the surface, finishing out the year by coaching the bowl game seems to make sense. But if you really think about it, it doesn't. From the Cincy standpoint, do you really want a coach who isn't dedicated to the program and its success? Now, I'm sure that Kelly is capable of doing a fine job of coaching one more game, but still, I'm not sure that you want an "outsider" coaching. Secondly, bowl games -- even this bowl game -- really don't matter. If Cincy goes 13-0 and finishes 2nd in the Nation or if they go 12-1 and finish 6th, is it really that big of a difference? On the grand scale, does it really matter? Also, if you coach from within, then you really have more of a chance to impress. If you lose, it's really no big deal since A: the game doesn't really matter that much and B: the loss has an undeniable asterisk, due to the distractions of an interim coach. But if you win, then even in spite of such adversity, you managed to finish an undefeated season.
Lastly, from the Notre Dame standpoint, there's no way I want Kelly spending almost half of his time between now and signing day coaching another team. I want him recruiting immediately.
Of course from my standpoint, as a Gator fan and one that hates Notre Dame, I think he should take a 6 week vacation to the French Riviera and hang out with his thumb up his a$$.

Hmmm.
O.k., but the Carnegie Tech Wins 'cause KR Goes to Chi. to Cover Army-Navy for the $$$ 83rd Anniversary Curse stays in effect on general principle.

Yeah, I wonder if Buff is upset about losing his coach? And I guess those "Harbaugh to Kansas -- a done deal" rumors were just that.

"This was a lazy attempt at a national head coaching search. If this administration wants to become a national program, make a national hire!"I could swear I've heard something like this before.

Cincy is going to hire the coach from Central Michigan. I forget his name, but ironically, he's the coach UCM hired to replace Kelly when he left for Cincy 3 years ago. I just heard another one a couple of minutes ago, but forgot ...
