I think it's a great idea. While we're on it, let's not talk about Kesha, Kim Kardashian, Perez Hilton, or any of the other vapid celebrities that do nothing but lower the level of discourse, culture, and politics in this country in order to make a buck. How many times has Sean Hannity discussed Ke$ha?* Or are you just being deliberately obtuse? *Can we at least spell her name right? There's a dollar sign in there!

Sarah Palin is currently at 54% unfavorables. Just for comparisons, that's Nancy Pelosi's unfavorable rating.

No, but she could see it unfold from her house.

Well we all know that those Soviets have a blood libel out on that poor, persecuted Sarah Palin. Woe is her! She's such a victim! And that socialist media just gives her no chance... they all jump on her. Maybe if she starts a new reality show called "Sarah Siberia", she can win back the hearts and minds of those dirty communists.

I'm just another member of the liberal elite who just won't give that poor woman a chance. It must be because all of the liberal media I watch does not give her a chance to respond to these vicious lies. Oh wait... they've all invited her to appear on their shows and she refuses to? Ah got it. Well maybe I would understand her better if I turned to TLC or Fox News or YouTube.... oh wait, she used the term "blood libel" to describe the reaction to the Tuscon shooting? Ah got it. Looking forward to her Presidential Campaign!

I thought you were implying that just because our popular culture accepts a lot discussion of vapid celebrities, we should also accept it as part of our news and politics. Also, question for Ed, who dredged this thread up yet again: what is Sarah Palin currently doing, or what position does she hold, that warrants discussion? I'm sure my mom is at home in New Jersey going about her daily routine, occassionally throwing out random thoughts about issues of the day. She's even on Facebook and every now and again updates her status. Should I start a thread about her so we can keep everyone informed?

Why not ask Dana Milbank who wrote about her in 42 columns, Keith Olbermann who mentioned her in 345 shows, Maureen Down who mentioned her 45 times, Rachel Maddow (183 times) or the Fox crews of Hannity (411 segments) or O'Reilly (664 segments). If she's currently doing nothing or hasn't given her positions on anything, why are they talking about her?

If she's currently doing nothing or hasn't given her positions on anything, why are they talking about her? "If she's currently doing nothing or hasn't given her positions on anything, why are they talking about her?" Well of course she's not doing nothing. And I know she has given her position on things. But everyone in this country is doing something today, and the vast majority of people in this country are spouting opinions on things. Until Palin actually chooses to become a politician again and get into the fray, I see no reason for any of us to spend even a minute discussing her. As it stands now, her opinions are as significant as those of one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'. As for asking Milbank, Olbermann, Dowd, Maddow, Hannity, or O'Reilly, I wouldn't bother because I know the answer: creating their own hero/demon makes more money for the network by drawing a larger audience of brain-dead idiots than does reporting on the world we actually live in—a world where Sarah Palin is completely and utterly irrelevant. Isn't there a war going on?

Sarah Palin hasn't tweeted anything or posted anything on Facebook during the State Of The Union. Just thought everyone would like that update.

I haven't posted much in this thread, because I think talking about Sarah Palin is much like talking about Kim Kardashian, or the "stars" of Jersey Shore, or Laguna Hills - people who don't really matter, but who the public and media seem fascinated with, for seemingly no good reason. They're popular now, but we'll look back on them in years and wonder, "What the hell were we thinking?"
However, I wanted to chime in and post a quote from the great Stephen Colbert, who summed up my feelings on Sarah Palin quite eloquently:
"I believe Sarah Palin is a true statesman, whose experience as a failed vice presidential candidate, half-term governor, and an eight episode reality show star has fully prepared her to take control of our nuclear arsenal."
Good day.

Superstar? More likely "Fading Star". Sarah Palin losing more ground among Republicans, Post-ABC poll findsExcerptsBut Palin’s unfavorable numbers are significantly higher than they are for any of these possible competitors. Fully 37 percent of all Republicans and GOP-leaning independents now hold a negative view of her, a new high.
In another first, fewer than 50 percent of Republican-leaning independents — 47 percent — hold favorable views of Palin.
