I think we should all concerned about Cox going to Rutgers as it relates to the recruitment of Ty and Rak and possibly some others.
My fear is not that I think Rutgers, with Cox, has a good chance to land Ty and Rak.
Rather, if you assume that Ty is in a 50/50 proposition between Nova and Georgetown and Rak is in a 25/20/20/20/15 proposition between Georgetown, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and FIU, the departure of the lead recruiter could raise a question, however slight, that could result in knocking the Hoyas down a peg. In a tight recruiting race against other top-flight programs, this could be enough to sway the recruit's decision away from the Hoyas.
I think Kirby probably gives us some access to recruits that were not on our radar before, and possibly positions us better for O'Bryant.
I hope I am wrong, but but as it relates specifically to our original top two targets, Ty and Rak, I think we are worse off today than we were before Cox left. And if true, it may help explain the endlessly expanding scope of our class of 2011 recruiting.

While I think Cox was the lead recruiter, though I don't know, I think III took charge of both Rak & Ty's recruitment or at the very least became much more involved the longer it has gone on. While I don't discount Cox's departure; I also don't think its a death sentence in the Rak and Ty chances either.

No, not a good sign. But I don't think we should assume we are "out of the race". Does seem like we have some ground to make up... quickly!

I think we can go ahead and now say with confidence that losing Cox has had a negative impact on near-term recruiting.

Wow overreact much?!
I seriously doubt he's 100% wide open again. It sounds like he's just making it so he can add rutgers as a courtesy. We're far from out of it. You guys are ridiculous. So negative.

Proof for all you chicken littles:
" EvanDanielscout Working on a story on Rakeem Christmas. He's not opening up his recruitment, but he's adding a pair of schools to it. Who are they? "

I don't have accwess to scout insider, but my guess would be Rutgers and Villanova.

It's actually rutgers and Cuse even worse. But still no need to panic won't be going to either of those 2 schools. All pleasantries.

From Rakeem's aunt on why they added Rutgers:
Christmas and Hamid developed a strong relationship with David Cox, who is the new Associate head coach at Rutgers, when he was at Georgetown. With his move to Rutgers, Christmas wanted to check it out.
“Out of all the assistants that we’ve dealt with he’s probably the one that Rakeem has the strongest rapport with, which is the only reason we ever looked at Rutgers,” Hamid said. “Now it’s a matter of can we develop that same relationship with Mike Rice?”
My interpretation: Hoyas were team to beat until Cox left. I think we're still in the mix, but would certainly not consider us the favorites at this point.

my interpretation. We're doing this is a favor to cox, but we don't really like rutgers of Mike rice. I still like our chances very much.

I agree with hoyaboya's interpretation. At one point I think we were the team to beat, but now I think it's anybody's game.
I don't see the favor/courtesy to Cox thing. When Quinn Cook lists Rutgers, that angle makes sense. Malone is likely pulling a lot of the strings there and wants to try to get his boy Cox as much good publicity as possible. But why would Christmas be going out of his way to do Cox any kind of favor? There is no other connection between the 2 except that Christmas apparently liked Cox a lot when he was recruiting him. And if that's the case, I think Rutgers getting listed is legitimate.
By no means am I panicking or saying I think he's gonna go to Rutgers. But I don't really think you add them to your list as a courtesy at this point. If you like some random assistant coach that much that you're trying to pay him a courtesy/help him out, you probably like him enough to at least consider the school he coaches at.
