I've said this many times before -- the weights Georgetown provides are lies. Austin Freeman DOES NOT weigh 239 pounds. He was listed at 210 last year, the guy did not gain 29 pounds. Austin does not weigh 7 pounds less than Julian Vaughn. Nikita did not lose 27 pounds to go from 241 (ha!) last year to 214 this year. And Omar most certainly did not go from 185 to 225 over the course of one offseason. guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/archive/050508aaa.htmlguhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/gu-m-baskbl-mtt.htmlThe real point is I think Austin might have been asked, or tried to bulk up since he knew he would be asked to play the 3 a lot this season. Hopefully, with Jessie gone and Hollis in, Hollis will (okay this is a little wishful thinking) be able to roughly step into the role that Austin played this year, with Austin getting Sapp's minutes at the 2, which means he'll be expected to -- and will -- slim down actually Austin and Nikitas weights last year were accidently switched around so that explains that discrepancy. Omar also looked a lot bigger so he could have gained 20-25 pounds and they might have underlisted him last year.

UPON FURTHER RESEARCH:
Freeman went from 241 to 239 Nikita from 210 to 214 and Wattad gained 25-30 pounds (he SHOULD have been listed at 195 freshman year according to his high school's roster).

For whatever reason, Austin is bulky. That's not a bad thing on its own but if it's the reason for his shooting falling off a cliff, then it is a problem.
It could be the cast around him, but that doesn't explain why even his free throw shooting took a dive.
So maybe it's weight or maybe it isn't. But something did change dramatically with Freeman this year and he looked like a completely different player than his freshman year.

Freeman is 20-25 lbs heavier then he was at DeMatha and with Assault on AAU circuit where he was one of the top 10-15 players in country in a GREAT HS class. It's obvious to anyone who can view his clips back then and compare it to how his frame looks at Georgetown. He either leans up/transforms his weight--or he'll be an average player. It's up to him to manage his diet and conditioning better.
Hope to see that happen--because he's a great kid and can be a wonderful player--and should be. Nobody can make you workout though--so as much as coaches want it for him--he's got to do it.

I don't care about Austin's weight, but I do care that he is slower and much less explosive than he was in HS. If dropping weight is the answer, great. If it's something else . . . well, do that.
A big problem with Austin's shot this year is that because of his lack of lift, low release, and low arc, if anyone jumped out at him he had to adjust his shot, and the results (side of the backbaord) were often ugly.

His weight would be fine where it's at if he was more streamlined. He needs lean mass and he's not anywhere near that. It's not being mean to point this out. If he wants to be effective and more explosive--not just on his drives but also his jumper--which has been reduced to a leaning back, sideways delivery that is hideous--he'll take conditioning this offseason much more seriously.

I don't care what the scale says, but he needs to get quicker, more explosive, and more under control. It certainly seems as if losing ten or more lbs would help him to do so.

Also, he has no prayer of playing in the NBA if he does not lose an appreciable amount of weight. His only viable position in the Association is the two, and he needs to get much quicker to have any hope of guarding NBA twos.

Austin's weight is fine. I don't think he's at ALL fat. Never has been. The kid is big. What he probably could use is a volleyball style workout regimen. He and DaJuan are the only kids on the team that don't need to hit the weights. Their weakest parts of their games lie in other places. I'm quite sure JT3 is aware of this.

Austin is not NBA material. Thats not a knock on him because he is a good college basketball player.
