i assume because that's where Herb Sendek currently coaches who was the Coach at NC st when chris committed and whose depatrue caused chris to get out of his commitment to NC st and come to georgetown. It's all thanks to stupid NC state fans who had unrealistic expectations and ran herb out of town that we have chris wright.

Interesting all the talk is about monroe and no one is talking about summers. I have a few thoughts
1 - I know he had an inconsistent season. He had large highs and large lows I don't want to get into a discussion about his +s and -s. But doesn't it make perfect sense for him to declare...go to camps and see what they tell him to work on? If I were him I would declare, not get an agent and see what the people have to say.
2 - That said, as a fan I am worried about that. Anytime you declare you are so close to the nba. You don't think some GM would tell him... yea you'll get drafted in the first round... I mean imagine if the spurs or lakers or someone like that who knows they are going to be good next year and therefore not get a high pick convince him to go in the draft so they can "steal" him in a low pick? That is what I would do if I was a GM....

1) dajuan will and should declare for the draft with out signing an agent. 2) He's probably looking for a first round guarantee. I'm not sure if he'll find that. 3) I imagine if he doesn't get a guarantee of a first round pick then he'll come back (I'm optimistic that this is his thinking) It's possible he just wants to leave no matter what and will stay and get picked up in the early second round. I hope that doesn't happen but it could.

NO harm in declaring if you are DaJuan. Hoya fans should rest assured he wont be given any type of guarantee, unless b/w now and the draft he gets his handle tight. No way he could play the 3 in the NBA right now.
On the other hand, the issue with Monroe declaring is that he would be given guarantees...And really high ones at that. I know he has given his word that he would be back, but can you really blame a 19 year old for changing his mind in lieu of the money he'd be promised should he go through these workouts and have one on one time with NBA GM's?! I know the overwhelming majority of 19 year olds in similar positions would change their mind and not think twice about it.

Unless Summers suddenly became friends with Darius Washington's people, he'll pull out without a first round guarantee, which I agree he probably will not get. If Monroe signs with an agent (entirely possible) and Summers somehow finds a first round guarantee (unlikely but possible)... not good news for next year.

I understand that from our perspective, we don't want that, but frankly the fans should be the last thing Greg considers. If Greg wants to take the money and go, well, he's going to do it. And I'd wish him well. He knows the money that is there for him if he wants it. But if he is committed to staying, what's the harm in doing the workouts and getting familiar with the process?

Summers has already publicly declared that he is coming back. Whatever his potential, his play down the stretch and utter lack of defense mean he will not be a high pick this year. An improved season next year could change that. He is coming back.
Monroe, unfortunately, is another question

The only harm would be if that he is borderline on leaving for next year -- if he has a poor season, other players develop faster, etc. -- he will not be able to test the waters and withdraw.
Also, to fully get the benefit of entering, you need to travel around to workouts, etc. You don't need to enter to get an NBA scouting report on you if you're Monroe. That costs money and time (to go to workouts, etc) which Greg may or may not want to spend.
It's a possible scenario, and if he is really committed to staying right now no matter what, it's something to think on.
I'm not saying it's likely.

I would agree that Summers would be wise to declare and test the waters w/o signing an agent. That way, he could test himself at camps and in individual workouts against the best college players at his position. Additionally, he could get honest feedback from NBA scouts and execs re: what he needs to work on in order to stick in the League. It really is a win-win for him. If he did not declare, I would be surprised, and would assume he is getting bad advice considering he is a junior and has yet to test the waters.
All we can hope is that in the next couple of weeks Dajuan's ball-handling ability does not reach an NBA level. I doubt it will, and accordingly expect him back next year.
Greg should not test. There is no need. He will be a lottery pick whenever he comes out - but he quite simply is not ready for action in the League. He needs another year to develop his body/skills/mental toughness. In the long run, staying another year, and not declaring, is in his best interest.

Summers should declare no doubt. However, his defensive lapses down the stretch will likely cost him serious consideration for a 1st round guarantee. However, if he gets it, he should leave, no question about that. He is the type of player that can go either direction next season in the minds of GMs, and so, if he has a chance to jump because the lakers want a physically talented kid they can teach the triangle offense to, than he should go.
I still think Monroe should go to the camps. I still think it makes a huge difference if the GM with the #4 pick says I am going to take you versus the #13 pick. Hearing something like that should be Monroe's signal to stay in the draft.

The only league Summers can jump to is the D-League.
Casually.

Hearing something like that should be Monroe's signal to stay in the draft. There is zero chance that Greg participates in pre-draft camps. Top 10 locks don't do that. If he has already decided to come back there is little upside to throwing out the cash so he can fly around to workouts. "Learning about the process?" Come on. The downside isn't huge either, but again - why bother?

if we lose monroe, that will set our program back 5 years. we have 1 recruit coming in next year and everyone seems disenchanted with JT3. Maybe he should recruit guys ranked 50-100 instead of so many McD's guys. They might embrace our system better.

I think no one is talking about DaJuan because we're just not as worried about DaJuan leaving as Greg. Yeah... some team may take a flyer on DaJuan this year but that's a huge if in terms of 1st round. And, if he leaves, GTown is more capable of dealing with that than if Greg leaves. After all, we never seem to know which DaJuan we're getting from day to day. Some days he IS the offense and other days he creates offense for our opponents. Personally, I'd love to see him stay and improve on the areas of his game that need it and then go to the pros. However, if he were to leave, I wouldn't immediately think that we're screwed for the next couple of years like I would if Greg left.

The way I feel on Summers is if he chooses to leave--what is lost? It's not if you can't replace a 6'8 245 guy who doesn't want to bang/rebound/defend, can't pass worth a lick, and is an out of control/sloppy ball handler. That is something you can replace. If he chooses to improve--and thinks NBA is best way to do so--good luck to him and thanks for his time at Georgetown. Just think what he's provided/shown is replaceable based on what he chose to NOT work on while being a player here.

He will be speaking with the right people and get it straight from the teams instead of through some rumor hotline or an intermediary. No one said he was playing at the camp.

Just think what he's provided/shown is replaceable based on what he chose to NOT work on while being a player here. We lose our leading scorer and the one rising senior on this team. I know everyone has been frustrated by his play, but this is getting rediculous. DaJuan is not a scrub, nor is he a team cancer. This is not an addition by subtraction type situation. Without DaJuan this season, we aren't even NIT eligible this year. And who have you seen on this team that is ready tos tep up and take over the scoring load? The equally inconsistent Austin Freeman? Nikita? Our starting point guard? Do we want to turn Chris into a shoot first , pass later guy? No. Also, someone said most everyone was disenchanted with JTIII. More hyperbole. I think most people are disappointed with this season and think JTIII made a number of mistakes that may have contributed to some close losses. Answer me this? Would you take four years like the ones prior if it came with one year like this one? I would. One bad year in five and all of sudden people are not satisfied? Get over yourselves. It happens every now and again. Hopefully we can bounce back. That task becomes infinitely more difficult if we lose Greg or a guy like Summers.

I'm not disenchanted with III.
Losing DaJuan means we lose another upperclassman and our best outside shooter. DaJuan's play this year is not irreplaceable at all, but let's face it, we're hoping he plays a more complete game next year, and I really don't see a freshman or existing roster player ending up as better than DaJuan could be next year.
But I understand what RDF means as well. Some folks view him as the best player on the team. Regardless of potential, in many games this year he was essentially a role player. Unfortunately, outside shooter is a big role.
