We barely beat the worse team in the league at home, and the coach continues to refuse to make a single adjustment
Can anyone list 5 good, non elementary reasons why in this economy one should make the trip to nyc to support this group of players and coaches.

1. We are not fair weather fans. It shows more spirit and pride to show up when you're down than to jump on the bandwagon when you are doing well. 2. Jessie Sapp showed up when his little sister was shot. 3. Coach Thompson, our coaching staff, Dajuan and Jessie contributed to two consecutive Big East regular season championships and a Big East Tournament Championship. Austin Freeman contributed to last year's regular season championship (and so did Nikita and Omar on the practice floor). Greg Monroe, Henry Sims, and Jason Clark are freshman who committed to our school and have played hard. I personally want to support these guys. 4. Our fellow Hoya fans who are attending are counting on the rest of us to make a good showing. 5. NYC is the greatest city in the world, and we New Yorkers are counting on your tourism dollars

1. We are not fair weather fans. It shows more spirit and pride to show up when you're down than to jump on the bandwagon when you are doing well. This paraphrases what Pops said about real Hoya fans at the 1984 banquet pretty well.

I hope the economy turns around just so people can stop using it as an excuse edited.

Loyal summed it up perfectly with #1. You can be pretty sure almost anyone you see at NYC this week rooting on the Hoyas actually cares about the program. It's almost why I think the student crowd for the L'ville game, although half in size compared to the Marquette game, was probably better by comparison. The students who were there for L'ville wanted to be there. Can't say the same for many of their counterparts from the Saturday prior to that.

1. Because the essence of being a fan is hope. 2. Because inconsistency works in two directions and we just might catch an up wave. 3. Because we caught as good a draw as we could possibly expect. 4. Because I have been going to the BET with my friends for 30 years and I am not about to give that up. 5. Becuse incessant whining is not an acceptable option.

...why in this economy one should make the trip to nyc to support this group of players and coaches. Short answer...don't make the trip. Seriously, just don't. Go find another team to root for. The Hoyas don't need fans like you and we don't want fans like you around here. Bye bye.

It's easy to be a fan of a team when you're winning all the time. You know who the true fans are when you look in to the crowd after a losing streak.
The student tickets to the BET were sold the morning after the St. Johns game. Even though that game ripped our hearts out, there were still more students than tickets at the McDonough box office the next morning.

In sport a player's response to adversity and defeat is often a greater measure of their personhood than their response to success. Most learn more from what they didn't/couldn't do than what they were able to do.
Should we the "fans" be held to a different standard? These kids leave a lot on the table for our entertainment and for this, they should be supported all the time. See you Tuesday.

"2. Jessie Sapp showed up when his little sister was shot" Sad. When did this happen? Sixer, how in the hell did you NOT know this happened? If you are a fan--it was pretty common knowledge and it happened when team was winning--so even people who don't support this team through down times should've known. You support your team even when you know it's not going to end well because you don't quit. If you are a quitter--why bother watching. I mean nobody thought this team was a BE, BET, or Final Four contender in offseason--but you watch because you want to see how season unfolds. It's been a frustrating one, but you stick it out--and as ugly as it can be, you know it can get better. It makes those seasons like we've seen recently that much sweeter knowing it's not easy, and it's not a given.

I don't know mrsixer, but I prefer to think his question was borne out of a passion for the team, an understandable frustration with the season as well as legitimate competing priorities like his family or his job.
Mrsixer, I hope you show up, and I hope the team does not break your heart.

OK topic has been discussed fully.
Locking now. Flaming should cease here. If not, look out.
On review: I am reopening this thread.
Be advised that anything that personally flames another poster will be deleted. Try to act like adults, as much as it seems to kill some of you.
