Again, like I said before, if we were in the ACC and media darlings we would be ranked with the same exact record, no question about it. The polls are influenced by press, and the ACC hype machine fuels the infulence. Its assine, but the truth.

Polls don't matter. Sure, the lack of votes may be a little disrespect, but all we have to do is keep on winning. No use getting worked up over it. Period.
And the fact that we are discussing us being ranked after last year's debacle and being predicted to finish 11th out of 12 in the Big East is nothing short of miraculous.

Polls do matter. The more attention we get the better we are going to do with the selection committee. The press that JT3 is getting right now is great (and well deserved). We need a high profile. Most observers of bball are not really aware of what is happing at GTown because we're not televised and because we are not ranked. Hopefully someone(s) will lose next week and we'll beat WVU and get into the AP rankings. Under the radar screen is not good. Teams in the Big East know we are good. Why shouldn't the rest of the college bball world?

Ranked or not ranked doesn't really matter to me too much. I just get annoyed with the media fascination with Nova and Pitt (and UCONN for that matter).
I know we have 6 losses, but none are bad and our SOS is pretty solid. Plus, 7-3 is 7-3 in a major conference. No idea why we'd be so far behind two teams we BEAT ON THE FREAKING ROAD!!! I mean we beat them in their houses. Give me a break. If they played Illinois they'd have one more loss too.
Again...I actually don't care if we're ranked or not. I'd rather stay under the radar screen, but the idiots who vote should be ashamed of themselves.

All that matters right now is a W in our next game - and a W in our next game - and a W in our next game -------- All the other b.s. will take care of itself if we can win 4 more games. And to put everything in perspective - who would ever have thought we would be filling up a thread titled "Why Aren't We Ranked" in February 2005. Thank you III.

Deep breath everyone. I was hoping we'd be ranked this week as well, but as others have said, it's absolutely amazing that we are even having this conversation.
Hopefully JTIII can use this as a little bulletin board fodder to get the boys fired up. We have a week to prepare and we'll be ready. By taking care of business Saturday, the polls will take care of themselves.
Just picture the ESPN.com story next Monday about this time. The headline - - "Hoyas Back in Top 25 after Long Vacation." That's the good stuff.

After beating WV on Saturday we will be #25. Then after winning at ND (coming off their win vs. BC), we will be in the top 20.

4 votes in the Coaches poll (also ahead of MD, who still pulls a couple).

simply because we havent beaten enuf teams of note. pitt is weak and nova is not fully respected. other than that we havent really accomplished much. had we beated cuse would be a different story. once ur on the top 25 its hard to get off. take nova losing to uconn last week and they are still on.
in my mind we are not there. we need more big wins. next year tho should be a huge improvement! cant wait.

I don't care if we are in the top 25, but I just checked the coaches poll and we're 42nd...with 4 votes total. I'm ok with that...
What I'm NOT OKAY with is freaking West VA and ND having more votes than us. This causes the coaches poll to have ZERO credibility. I guess beating Pitt at home is better than on the road?!?
Insane. West Virginia has more votes that a 7-3 team in the big east while they are 3-6. I mean they should have congressional hearings into these idiots that vote and they should have their votes taken away for life.

West Virginia is ahead of Georgetown because they went to Nova and pulled out a win while we went there and lost 84-46. Or was it the other way around

Unreal. I'm still simmering over this one. I really don't care about being in the top 25...it just adds pressure. However, I just can't in my mind imagine a REAL coach looking at his rankings and saying something like...WV is #23...no brainer.

But Pacific deserves it. Oh wait, my highschool team could beat them . . . seriously. What are you talking about? Pacific is 18-2, 12-0 in conference. That's impressive no matter what the conference. If it wasn't a big deal, other teams would be running the table in the weaker conferences. This isn't the case, so maybe Pacific really has something going. I'm all for the flying under the radar for a few more weeks. Whoever posted that old teams fall out of the rankings a lot quicker than new teams make their way up hit the nail right on the head. Quit the hating on Pacific, and like a million other people have said in this thread, let's just keep winning games.

Sorry for hating on a ranked team who's best game was an 11 point loss to Kansas. Why should anyone be satisfied with flying under the radar? We are not a mediocre team and we don't deserve mediocre respect. Do we really need to sweep the BE to get the recognition our coach and players have worked so hard to earn? For everyone that says that recognition and rankings don't matter and all that matters is wins should translate that to your line of work. Wouldn't you want to see the rewards for your hard work and successes, such as promotions, raises, or the boss dropping your name in some meetings?

In all honesty, I don't want to be ranked right now. Rankings are meaningless as compared to the Dance, and I want our guys to go full steam ahead in each and every game from here on out so that we can make the Dance, rankings be damned.

EVERYONE who says the tourney is the most important thing is 100% correct. However I'll never understand not wanting to be ranked. I know it's not the most important thing, and that a strong finish to a great season thus far is what we ultimately need.
