Ahhhh! Where's the update? I've been hitting refresh on ESPN.COM for the last two hours. What a waste.

Easy does it, JJL - the polls don't come out until late Monday afternnon and Monday evening. I would like to see us in the polls in the next 2 weeks, because I think it helps give some credibility - even with the sacred Tournament Committee - to spend some time in the polls near the end of the season, can help overcome an early-round confrence tournament loss.

The new polls usually get posted around 3pm on ESPN.com. Sportsline is sometimes earlier

I'm a big fan of flying under the radar. Especially if recruiting is all but wrapped up. It'd be nice to just float into the BE tourney and shock the world! Recruiting is never all but wrapped up. We're still after a number of big men for next year and then there are the 2006 and 2007 recruiting classes. The recruiting game is a non-stop job and positive pub is always good for it.

The recruiting game is a non-stop job and positive pub is always good for it. exactly right on that... especially for future years. If 3 and his guys are talking to these kids about the advantages of joining a resurgent program -- and I am sure they are -- there is nothing like breaking into the nationally published TOP 25 to demonstrate that. It is even more important (IMHO) that our current team achieve that milestone for themselves -- as an undeniable recognition of the tremendous work they have done this year. Clearly, 3 deserves a ton of credit. but so do the kids. I'd love to see this happen, whether it is this week, or in two weeks. It is absolutely incredible that we are discussing this possibility after our program had sunk so deeply.

Re: recruiting. In that case, I hope the good pub out there helps us beef up the ranks of our big boys. Let's hope this week of rest helps the team blowout WV *and* allow III to make some effective home visits. Let's go Ho-yas!

We are not ranked because we are in the Big East and we are Georgetown, who has never been a media favorite. If we were in the ACC, we would be ranked 15th in country, with the same 7-3 record in conference play.

If we were in the ACC, we would be ranked 15th in country, with the same 7-3 record in conference play. Have to disagree with you there. Being in the BE gives us tremendous visibility and credibility. And as far as being a media favorite... well, it is true that Pops Editeded off a lot of media types with Hoya paranoia, but he also raised the profile of the program to the very top. THere were quite a few years when we were ranked or seeded higher than we deserved because of that legacy. given that our resurgence has been led by a new coach with the same old name -- and a Princeton education and track record to boot -- the awareness of our accomplishments runs far and wide. We aren't ranked because we started the season totally off the radar and are gradually working our way in. We still have not beaten any of the three top teams in the BE -- UCONN, Cuse and BC. Had we beaten any of those, we'd be in the top 25. Our RPI is mid-30's, and even the CBS SPortsline "adjusted" RPI gets us only to 23, and only this week. So no reason why we should have been ranked prior to this point.

When you are in the top 25 your games/scores get included in the college b-ball round-up sections of newspapers all around the country. You get included in the highlights on ESPN. You get mentioned on radio and TV shows. You also get bragging rights in your town. It means a ton for the team and the school from a visibility and recruiting standpoint. I'll take flying on the radar over flying under the radar any day of the week. If we are not ranked this week, a win over WVU should put us in next week. One at a time. One at a time.

thats bull! Georgia Tech getting 116 votes? That team has 7 losses and is completely falling apart. The fact that we only have 5 more votes than 13-7 Maryland after they lost to 2 poor teams this past week is complete insanity!!!

Agreed 007, when teams are ranked at the beginning of the year, they tend to stick around the poll no matter how bad they are doing. The writers want to make themselves feel like they made the right preseason predictions.

Also, how the hell is Villanova #22 and we aren't in the rankings. I know they crushed Kansas and only have 5 losses but they are only 5-4 in the Big East and we beat them. Our 15-6 (7-3) record should get us in. BS!!!

Yeah, I think this is ridiculous. I look at the BE Standings and I see three teams below us who are ranked (Pitt, UCONN, Nova), and we beat 2 of those 3 teams. We're 15-6, we have more wins than those teams (granted we have one more loss, too), and we have a better conference record (granted we have a game in hand).
Nova may have a better "big" win than us vs. #2 Kansas, but we have more in number. It's also ridiculous because had BB's foot been an inch and a half further back at the Syracuse game, I GUARANTEE we'd be 20 in the nation at 16-5, 8-2. There's no reason one inch should set us back that far, especially since we've won all the games we've supposed to have won (thus far), and we've padded that with a number of quality wins.
15-6, 7-3 should receive more attention than 17 votes...guess we'll just have to keep surprising people.
The 3 Game Taking Care of Business Run continues Saturday afternoon...maybe 16-6, 8-3 will get more love

It honestly doesn't bother me that much we aren't ranked. I remember my freshman year, and pre-season we were something ridiculous like #14. After our nice cupcake schedule filled with teams like Norfolk State and Southeast Anacostia A & M (or something like that) we got pounded and fell of the face of the earth. I like being the underdog better, not getting the respect we deserve, and not carrying a big bullseye that says "ranked team." Let's beat WVA, let's keep winning, and let's make the tourney for the first time in my college career. GO HOYAS.

Pacific has a surprisingly high RPI of 34, but their only claim to fame seems to be a loss to Kansas and a win over Nevada. Everyone else in their 18-2 romp has been between 150-300 in the RPI. So, I'm not sure I get it.
