He's not--Georgetown shouldn't be considering him either--they wasted time with Smith when he went to Oak Hill--lost out on other guys, wasted time with Johnson--the minute he mentioned the words "Montrose Christian"--they should've moved on, and now with Cook going to Oak Hill--not to mention having close ties with Curtis Malone (believe it's his godfather) and topping it off--he's not what is needed--he's a small combo guard who can't guard anyone--stop me if we've read/seen this before.

Our only chance with an Oak Hill guy is for him to go to an ACC school and then transfer to be back home.

I like this young man. Great student/athlete. Very close friend with Chris Wright. Reminds me a lot of Jacque Vaughn who Thompson stated was one of his disappointed losses. Vaughn told everybody that he was going to G-Town but went to Kansas to have a very good career and some years in the NBA......Go Hoyas!!!

I personally think he's overrated. I'm very skeptical of Dematha kids at the next level. Take away Austin and a few others a lot of them are busts.

Have to say seeing him in person--I thought his passing was vastly improved and nothing else stood out--he's an undersized combo who wasn't hitting from outside and got destroyed on defensive end--which to me is a red mark. I'm done with seeing horse......defense and especially from the perimeter players.

As a DeMatha guy, I somewhat agree with hardwood that for the most part, DeMatha guys are overrated, but if Quinn wanted to come, I'd take him in a heartbeat. People say he's a combo, but he's more of a point now than Chris Wright was in high school. Because of his size, he may never play in the NBA, but I think Quinn could be a damn good college basketball player.
However, like I said earlier, I've been hearing for a while now that he's not coming and hopefully, he cuts the Hoyas off of his list sometime next next month so the staff can focus their efforts on players that are truly interested in coming.

If the Hoyas had gotten Vaughn JT would have needed two players to join the French Foreign Legion in order to make room for Iverson.

sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/seth_davis/07/28/vegas.stars/1.html• Late Friday night, I checked out Ohio Basketball Club against D.C. Assault in the Super 64. I had been encouraged to watch OBC to see 6-8 senior forward Chane Behanan. He is an indeed an impressive physical specimen, and I was especially taken during one sequence when I saw him catch a long pass in transition, then quickly gather himself, reverse direction and float in for a slam. It was a great move for someone who is built so thick. On the next possession, Behanan caught another pass in transition, and this time he deftly passed to a teammate for an open layup. When I told Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News the next day that I was impressed with Behanan, he seemed surprised and told me that the kid only scored six points the whole game. Still, as I said before, I know what I saw. As for D.C. Assault, the premiere player was supposed to be Quinn Cook, a 6-1 senior point guard from Maryland's famed DeMatha High School. Cook looked strong and efficient enough, but if I didn't know about his reputation, he wouldn't have jumped out at me. Again, I'm not saying that means anything. One game does not an evaluation make. Another on that team who did stand out for me was Jordan Goodman, a 6-9 rising junior swingman. Goodman originally committed to Georgetown, but when Hoyas assistant coach David Cox left for Rutgers, Goodman switched his commitment to RU as well. Mike Rice is just getting settled in his new job, but the versatile, graceful Goodman is the kind of player who will be a big help in due time.

As I said in Goodman thread--I watched Assault play 5 games at Best Buy Classic in MN and Cook was very unimpressive. I'll defend him by saying he just came over from Germany and playing with Team USA 17U--so maybe he was jet lagged---but in same case-Adonis Thomas came from that tournament and was best player at Event--so that has to be mentioned as well.
Cook was not best guard at event--that belonged to BJ Young--who is best PG prospect in this class.
Ky Madden also ate Cook alive in their matchup and Arkansas Wings took care of Assault rather easily.

From Rivals article at Adidas Nations:
"Quinn Cook rattled off a list that included Duke, North Carolina, Arizona, UCLA, St. John's, Rutgers, Georgetown, Villanova and Connecticut."

Quinn Cook is officially down to 7 schools according to Scout: Arizona, Duke, UCLA, Rutgers, St. John's, UNC, and Georgetown. scouthoops.scout.com/2/993042.htmlI think we still have a chance in this recruitment for a couple of reasons. First, I do not think that UNC and Duke are going to officially offer. Second, UCLA and 'Zona are across the country and are focusing on west coast based targets like Jahii Carson, Norman Powell and Nick Johnson. Third, III has been on Quinn from the beginning. My gut feeling says that if Duke offers he goes, but I don't see it with Ty Thornton, Kyrie Irving, Seth Curry, and likely Austin Rivers in the fold. I also think that Quinn is a smart kid that won't go to St. John's or Rutgers over the Hoyas. I've never thought that Cook would seriously consider us, but I have a feeling he will see Wright and Starks killing this year and decide to be a Hoya.

Kyrie is one and done, so he won't factor in. Cook knows he can beat out Thornton.
I too have thought about the 'process of elimination' with Cook, but I just don't see it happening, Duke offer or not. Georgetown has it's negatives in their recruitment of him as well, Markel is ahead of him, reportedly doesn't like the offense and is a DCA kid.

Agree with the negatives - but he's had a million chances to eliminate us and has not so at this point I'd like to believe he is legitimately considering us.
I'd add that I happen to be in the camp that thinks that an NBA lockout is a possibility, and as a result I'm not so sure Kyrie should be assumed to be a one and done.

Why would a lockout effect the draft--they'll be fine and lock them out after they secure their talent. Irving is one and done.
Cook's the God-son of Curtis Malone--he won't be a Hoya.

My thought regarding the draft is that Coach K might actually be able to convince Kyrie to stay and play with Austin Rivers, and maybe even Quincy Miller, if it looks like a lockout is inevitable. I think Kyrie will likely waffle throughout the season, and unless Cook wants to wait until late spring to decide, I don't think he'll have an official offer from Duke.
I could see him going to AZ with Sidiki Johnson, but I think they'd prefer Nick Johnson, and I honestly think we've got to be next on the list. I understand that the Thompsons relationship with DC Assault is not great, but I am not a Curtis Malone hater and think that in the end the Hoyas relationship with DCA is salvageable.

can you really run a lineup out there with starks and cook, both in and around the 6 foot marker? can they play together? as for the nba draft, my guess kids will stay in school. no nba team will draft a kid in late june and sign him within days as the cba will run its course june 30th. maybe the new agreement will have further restrictions on rookies. so teams will hold off signing until a new cba is signed. will they implement a 2 or 3 year wait? maybe, but they might grandfather kids already in college. either way kids will be told if they leave school ya they might get drafted, but you won't see any money and you might be sitting out for a while.

He told me he doesn't like the offense either but he's a better fit for us than some of the other schools. He reminds of a higher rated Jon Wallace.

He'll be wearing a Duke uniform in all likelihood next year--and wearing Nolan Smith's jersey.
