rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=86958A Sophomore starter at DeMatha at PG. Kid can shoot the lights out. He has consecutive 25 point performances against O'Connell and Gonzaga. For a Sophomore to do that in the WCAC against that competition is VERY impressive. I understand we have Starks coming in, in 2010, but this kid looks to be the real deal. He plays for DC Assault so I am sure that Georgetown knows about him. Rivals had nothing listed on schools persuing him. Any word if we are after this kid?

From Tim Brandt's Blog on WJLA-7
HE IS 15 GOING ON 40 - IN A GOOD WAY. I AM TALKING ABOUT QUINN COOK, A HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS PHENOM AT DEMATHA. BUT IT ISN'T JUST QUINN'S GAME THAT IS ADVANCED FOR HIS AGE, IT'S THE WAY HE CARRIES HIMSELF. ONE YEAR AGO, QUINN LOST HIS DAD TED TO CARDIAC ARREST. ACCORDING TO QUINN'S MOM JANET, QUINN AND TED WERE INSEPERABLE, AND BEST FRIENDS.
JANET COOK SAYS HER SON QUINN "HAS BEEN ON EVERYBODY'S RADAR" SINCE HE WAS 8. CHECK HIM OUT NOW AND YOU'LL KNOW WHY: HE'S A 6-1 'TRUE' POINT GUARD (AND STILL GROWING - HE WEARS SIZE 13'S) WHO CAN FLAT OUT SHOOT. QUINN SCORED 25 IN DEMATHA'S WIN AT O'CONNELL ON ESPNU TWO WEEKS AGO.
WE WENT TO THE COOK HOUSEHOLD LAST WEEK TO TALK TO QUINN ABOUT HIS HOOPS PROWESS, AND HOW HE HAS BEEN COPING WITH THE LOSS OF HIS DAD. WITH SUCH DIGNITY, AND MATURITY, QUINN SPOKE ABOUT HOW EASY IT WOULD BE FOR HIM TO MAKE EXCUSES, BUT HE KNOWS HIS DAD WOULDN'T WANT - OR ACCEPT - THAT FROM HIS ONLY SON. INSTEAD, QUINN IS DRIVEN BY THE MEMORY OF HIS FATHER: HE KEEPS A PICTURE OF HIM AND AND HIS DAD TUCKED INSIDE HIS UNIFORM, HE WEARS HIS DAD'S SHIRT UNDER HIS JERSEY, AND HE 'TALKS' TO HIS DAD EVERY SINGLE DAY. WHAT DOES QUINN SAY TO HIS FATHER?: "HOW ABOUT KOBE LAST NIGHT..." OR "WHAT'D YOU THINK OF MY GAME"... OR SIMPLY "I MISS YOU."
I LEFT QUINN'S HOUSE WITH SUCH RESPECT FOR HIM, HIS MOM, AND HIS SISTER KELSEY. THEY ARE DEALING WITH THEIR TRAGIC LOSS EVERY DAY, YET HAVE MADE THE MOST OF EVERY DAY AS WELL - ALL THE WHILE WITH TED ON THER MINDS.. STILL JUST A SOPHOMORE, QUINN IS BEING RECRUITED BY JUST ABOUT EVERY MAJOR COLLEGE PROGRAM OUT THERE. THE MARYLANDS, DUKES, CAROLINAS AND GEORGETOWNS OF THE WORLD ALL WANT QUINN FOR HIS GAME; JUST WAIT UNTIL THEY MEET HIM AND HIS FAMILY - AND GET THE WHOLE PICTURE.
WE'RE RUNNING OUR PIECE ON QUINN TODAY DURING OUR 5PM NEWS. I HOPE YOU CAN WATCH.

Thx for that idhoya.
Sad story. Seems like the kid has his mind right. Sounds like the type of person Georgetown would be lucky to get. Good luck to the kid wherever he ends up.

I was at the game. DeMatha is very deep with talent, so it's hard to say that any one player has a chance to stand out (and if anyone did last night, it was Naji Hibbert). One guy on that team that could develop into something interesting is Mikael Hopkins. A very bouncy forward. Only a sophomore, and very raw, but I was impressed with his athleticism.
Tyler Thornton alternated between dazzling and frustrating. He has great court vision and made some sparkling passes and defensive plays, but he also made some head-scratching turnovers.

I had the pleaure of Quinn coming to my gym with one of my players and he was a player well beyond his years. He plays hard and is never content with his game. The sky is the limit for him.

No chance. Told me he hates our offense. Waiting for UNC! Urgh... Too common among local kids these days--both things. (Before anybody accuses me of saying the sky is falling or anything, I'm not.)
