Don't need anymore undersized guards. Need guys with length to get hands in the passing lanes and bother shooters without fouling.

I'd take cook over alot of long guards. He and Markel would be tough to stop.

I've started a new blog and Quinn was nice enough to share a minute of his time for an update... cuttingdownnets.wordpress.comQuinn Cook is a junior to be at DeMatha High School and one of the top PG's in the Class of 2011. Quinn was nice enough to give an update about what's going on this summer and possibly the future. CDN: What aspect(s) of your game are you working on? Quinn : I feel that I have to work on all aspects of my game for the future. CDN: What is on tap for the summer? Quinn: Summer league games with DeMatha and AAU ball with DC Assault. Also just working on my game. CDN: What is your list of potential suitors for college as of now? Quinn: - Ohio State, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida, Clemson, Virginia, and some others. ... Quinn as a good of a player, is an even better guy from the little I spoke with him.

Attended Dematha's season opener tonight. Final score: 104-45, over Don Bosco Christo Rey, a tiny Catholic school in Silver Spring/Takoma Park. Tonight was DBCR's first EVER varsity game, & they showed some competitiveness.
Quinn played ~ 1/2 of the game, & played fantastically well. GU staff was present, & Quinn did not disappoint. I did not keep stats, but I would venture a guess of: 15 PTS, 5 AST, 4 STL, & blazing quickness. Actually discussed a backcourt of Clark/Starks/Cook w/ a friend, and I LOVE the concept. Cook at the 1, Starks 2, & Clark 3 (of course, AFTER Cook assimilates into program during his freshman year). Would be a FANTASTIC get for the Hoyas.

This is all jumping the gun but I'll give my two cents anyway. With Hollis on board and if the Hoyas got Roscoe then those are the candidates I would want starting at the three. Cook, if the Hoyas were fortunate to get him, can come off the bench for a season and wait for Jason to graduate (just as I suspect Markel will wait for a season before he too is placed in the starting lineup). And of course there is Vee who could end up being special himself.

MCI: I feel you 100%, but I sure would love to have those roster "issues" if we land all the guys you mention.
Hordac: First off, he apparently does NOT like to be called Mike. He is "Mikael" 100% of the time (announcer, coaches, teammates). Just an FYI. As for his game, he & Quinn play fantastically well together, but for some reason, I'm not all that 'jazzed' by Hopkins. He was at least 7" taller than DBCR's tallest player, so his 4 or 5 dunks may not be that impressive. He even got out-rebounded on a couple occasions. He runs the floor well, and he & Quinn finished some very nice fast breaks together. In all, I would say I see why he does not yet have a scholarship offer from any of the schools on his list. He's not exactly soft, but if he maxes out at his current height (6'8"), there will be SEVERAL better options in the 2011 class. At his current height, he cannot play a true Center (even at GU, where the 'true Center' is more like a highly-skilled feeder/distributer/rebounder/floor leader). He would get killed on the boards in the Big East if he were a 2010 grad. If he adds inches & pounds, I would love to see more of him next summer.
Helpful?

For those interested....a conversation broke out on the Duke Scout boards regarding the recruiting of Cook. Seems that a rcent article came out online about Cook being a prospect Kentucky was going hard after. A hissy fight starts as Duke fans claim that if Cook chooses Kentucky over Duke he has no class. UNC fans then chimed in about Cook visiting North Carolina's campus and referring to UNC as his dream school. Looks like all the Big Boys are after this kid. Should be fun.

I thinks he a decent fit for us but not a top priority.reminds me of Jonathan Wallace. I feel he is a 2-guard in a point guard body.

Saw Cook for the second time this season last night at the National High School Hoops Festival out at Wise HS, and I hope JTIII does make him a priority because he's the kind of kid that you don't let get out of your backyard at least without a fight.
Despite a few unforced turnovers, the kid showed he could penetrate at will, is a ferocious defender, outstanding ballhandler and a great passer and shooter.
I totally understand the hype.

Looks like the staff is looking at Cook and T. Johnson for the '11 PG scholarship... who's better? who's the best fit?

Looks like the staff is looking at Cook and T. Johnson for the '11 PG scholarship... who's better? who's the best fit? Hoyas will be happy with either guy--both are talented offensive players. Johnson is bigger--and has football background--he was considered a top QB prospect until he decided to commit to playing CBB. Cook smaller--probably 5'10 while Johnson closer to 6'2. Cook was best player on court when I watched the DeMatha-O'Connell game last year and really did a nice job of scoring without needing a lot of shots. Both players can shoot from deep and have played with excellent talent and shared spotlight--Cook with the always talented DeMatha teams and Johnson with Isaiah Epps who is a Pitt signee for next year. If Georgetown got either kid--they'll be doing EXTREMELY WELL!. Sidenote--I do know Johnson has been to Hilltop a lot for a kid who is from NJ--his first visit watching a game was when Hoyas beat Louisville to win regular season Big East championship in '08 season. Was at Midnight Madness this year as well. Cook has been around program several times as you can imagine as well and has a talented teammate Hoyas are very high on--Mikeal Hopkins (might be Mikael so sorry if sp. wrong) as well.
