Since the team is practicing today the least we can do is start talking about the game.

Most of our games lately have a handful of between 4-8 plays that we all remember and that all inevitably define how or why we lost. Eliminate those plays and keep hope alive.

If we don't give them points off turnovers and offensive boards, this is a game we should win. Louisville is not a great offensive team so we should be able to get stops if we make them play half court offense and then get the rebounds. They are a very good defensive team, but we can score on them. We need three of our guys to step up on offense and the whole squad to step up on defense and the boards.

Defense and Boards.... yes, those are the keys, along with low TOs on offense. And... poise in crunch time.

Here, here, Sir Saxa. We need to play smart D (help, but don't swarm); go after boards (relentlessly); and keep it simple in crunch time (channel JWall and Jeff). Let's win one for Jeff Green's mom.

At some point in the season, you have to realize that you are who you are. This year's team is talented but young, in an excellent conference with an outrageously difficult schedule. And they had a three week meltdown that just gutted the season - I hope they can end on a high note so there is something positive to build on for next year, but I'm not expecting this team to suddenly start doing the little things it takes to win consistently.

Sirsaxa, I agree. I saw a lot of emotion in Greg on Saturday, maybe some of it will rub off. Are going to the game?

for what its worth, i always felt that this was the more likely game to steal out of the tough sat-mon combo

We don't have to win the game on defense and the boards, just not lose it there. Louisville is not as good on offense as Marquette, not as dominant on the boards as Pitt, so I don't think we are overmatched. They do create turnovers and play defense as well as anyone else in the Big East.

Finish layups and play defense...or act like you've play defense at some point in your life.

We have done all three this year, just not all at the same time and in the same game.

tighter defense, better rebounding. our offensive rhythm seems to have returned, far fewer stretches of jacking up threes.

this team needs to focus for a full 40 minutes on playing smart ball. play your game and don't try to force plays that aren't in your repertoire. this league stomps teams that lose focus for even a few minutes and i really think these boys can pull it together and gut one out tonight.
GO HOYAS!

It would be nice if the team could get a win against a good team, keep our tourney hopes alive and back up the optimists that are still holding out hope.

3 things we have not done all year; is it realistic to suddenly expect us to change? False statement. We have done all three this year, just not all at the same time and in the same game. The original post discussed the need to do all three; we certainly have never done all three in the same game; and to be honest, I don't think we have ever done even one of them for 40 minutes.

Quick note: Louisville is favored by 1.5. I would like to see the Hoyas win tonight and then roll the dice on Saturday at Villanova. Villanova is very similiar to Marquette, but I think better because of better play at the point and Cunningham.
