In the new issue of SI there's a feature story about this year's Big East. It follows Syracuse through the week leading up to our game up there on Saturday. At the end of the article, after they beat us, Boeheim says "all we really know is that it gets us going again and probably knocks them out" of the NCAAs. What a clown. Not only is that a completely wrong statement, can you imagine if an opposing Big East coach had declared any of his Syracuse teams that were on the bubble these past several seasons to be eliminated from the NCAAs with 2 weeks left in the season? I think he probably would have blown a gasket during a PTI appearance. What a turd. He also says that if they had blown that game to us on Saturday it would have been the "worst loss in the history of Syracuse basketball." Here's the full story: vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1151997/1/index.htm

I'd consider ever having Preston Shumpert on your team as a pretty big loss to the program.

He also just anointed Thabeet the best defensive center in the history of the Big East...right before Blair abused him for 22 and 23.

Well, if anyone would know what it takes to be knocked out of the NCAAs, it would be him.

"Later, Boeheim gathers his players and lectures them about their propensity for making excuses and pointing fingers."
Um, Boeheim tells them NOT to whine? Wow, this is just the gift that keeps on giving.

I read and reread the article and I don't find anything wrong with what Boeheim said. That statement is absolutely true. It "probably did knock us out." It will take some unlikely wins against Marquette and Villanova or become a finalist in the big east tournament to get us in.
He also described Georgetown as a quality team
"Quality teams like Georgetown and Notre Dame are struggling because of how tough the league is."

"Later, Boeheim gathers his players and lectures them about their propensity for making excuses and pointing fingers." READ AS: Boeheim gathered his players and pointed his fingers at them, all while making excuses.

He also described Georgetown as a quality team "Quality teams like Georgetown and Notre Dame are struggling because of how tough the league is." point is you don't declare a fellow conference team "probably out" especially when they are clearly still in the mix for a tourney bid. Boeheim knows that gtown and syracuse could still end the season with similar records and resumes and he is planting the seed that the Orange are a more tourney worthy team than us. But really, it's a decorum thing. You don't talk down the tourney chances of a fellow conference team. And I'll repeat - if JT3 or any other Big East coach told any media outlet - let alone Sports Illustrated - that Syracuse was "probably out" with this much time left in the season, Jimmy would not be happy. It was just a classless thing to do - but typical of the man.

Let's face it, the rivalry is more fun when it can be like this. If it's just about decorum, I could care less. If it crosses the line, like say, throwing bottles at opposing fans, that's a different story.

Yeah, it is more fun this way - like the old days, with coaches getting in each others' faces during games.
For a period there, when the program was in the doldrums, it seemed like Hoya fans were pretty mellow about Boeheim and actually respected him as a coach and a human being. At least this generation of Hoya fan is getting an opportunity to see what a despicable tool Boeheim is, and how easy it is to truly despise him.

That one's pretty explainable though--our period of mediocrity coincided with Boeheim's refusal to allow Cuse to move to the ACC, likely saving the Big East. It's the only thing he's done worth respecting.
