The Boneyard has posts about it being mentioned on ESPN tonight. Apparently, the Lakers have interest and would pursue it in the off-season.

i am sure that he will listen but ultimitily i do not think he will take the job. too much to lose for him.
i know they will probably offer him more money than he could ever have imagined, as even coach k took time to look at it. but he has built too much at Connecticut to just leave it.

Kobe managed to drive Rudy T to say he'd never coach again ... in half a season. Stressed out, Rudy? I wonder why.
And ESPN is just stupid. Shaq back to LA? Huh?

This is just bogus BS, SF. Kobe Bryant is not the devil, rumors to the contrary notwithstanding. No one, repeat no one, in LA is suggesting that Kobe had anything to do with Rudy T's decision. The fact that Rudy's physical condition clearly deteriorated while Kobe was sitting on the bench in street clothes speaks to this as well.
As for Calhoun coaching the Lakers, no way, no chance, no how.

Maybe he did or maybe he didn't. I have to believe dealing with Bryant makes the job tougher.
I can't imagine who wants that job. Just for the money or the chance, I suppose. But who walks into a job where they aren't the real boss?

the kid may have driven rudy out but lets get one thing straight. this kid is a cancer in the clubhouse. he always wants it his way and if he doesnt get it he will start acting like kid who didnt get the toy he wanted for christmas. he thinks he is MJ, and doesnt have the game or the good guy aura that MJ had.
this kid needs to grow up, otherwise he is going to find out too late and regret all the things he has done. go buy your wife a massive diamond, you punk.

Kobe is not a cancer, he is not what he is portrayed, don't let the media fool you. The reason Shaq got traded, and Phil Jackson left was because of money. Phil wanted more money, and the owner wasn't willing to give more than 5 million dollars a year. Shaq wanted an extension after he routinely was out of shape, and had an arthritic toe that wasn't getting any better and he was getting older. He was already making 25-30 million the next two years. The Laker owner didn't want to shell out that kind of money for a guy who was aging and out of shape, and even with him and Kobe on the team did not win the championship the last 2 trips in the playoffs. If he signs Shaq and Keeps Phil and resigns Kobe, the team is maxed out and can't sign any free agents. The team split because of money, not Kobe Bryant. Kobe is a leader, and not a coach killer. Don't let ESPN and all these other media outlets fool you guys. With the media, in one breath Kobe walks on water, and in the next breath Kobe is a lowest of the low. Its all propaganda.
And Oh yeah, Calhoun would stink as an NBA coach. Who would want that overrated dweeb on an NBA sideline.

are you kobe's press secretary. you have to be crazy to think that the lakers would not rather have shaq on their team right now. he is an MVP candidate. your right he is over paid. the most overpaid MVP in the league. where is kobe in that talk, no where. i am sure the lakers were really concerned with money, when have you ever seen that being in issue with that organization. the simple fact is that Kobe got want he wanted and now the Lakers are struggling to make the playoffs.

If you actually knew the history of the Lakers owner Jerry Buss, he has been known to be cheap. Yes the are a premier franchise, but he refuses to be the New York Knicks or Portland Trailblazers of the NBA (high salaries and no rings). Like I said before, the reason Phil and Shaq are not with the Lakers is because of money. They wanted more money. The Lakers had their run, and it was time to revamp the team. Signing Shaq and Kobe would not allow the Lakers to revamp the team. They tried with Payton and Malone and they still lost to the Pistons. The owner had to make a choice between two franchise players. The LA fans loved Kobe more. The owner chose Kobe. Does the media report or galmorize this, no. Because its boring, it doesn't sell papers. You believe what the media says, but the fact remains Kobe didn't drive anybody out. Its propaganda. And if Kobe did drive Phil out, why is Phil interested in coming back and Kobe wanting Phil to come back.

That entire city ate out of the palm of Shaq's hand ever since he was there. Did you not pay attention to the backlash when he was traded? They LOVED Shaq. He was the Lakers. I dont know why you're backing Kobe as if youre his brother or something, but dont try to distort the facts to prove you're right. It just makes your argument seem hollow. You dont think that this whole bringing Phil back thing could be a media creation at all, just like you think the media creates a bad air around Kobe?

No, actually you are wrong. No distortion here. Yes they loved Shaq, but Kobe was the fan favorite. I'm not making this up. See the LA Times or any other Media outlet in Los Angeles not Conneciticut (ESPN stomping grounds) if you don't believe me. And if you still don't believe it, take a trip to LA and find out for yourself. Kobe was the fan favorite. Oh yeah, Kobe, in the flesh, said on TNT last night he would love to have Phil as a coach. Phil said he is interested, loves Lamar Odom, Chris Mim, and thinks he has a shot if Kobe is on the team.

Kobe was the fan favorite in LA when Shaq was there??? Huh? Kobe made it very clear he wanted his very own team and he got what he asked for. I don't think Kobe forced Rudy T out (see various media reports this week), but I doubt he is upset that Rudy T resigned. After all, why does he care? He got his wish, he is the Lakers now.

Joe Hoya, I would like to commend your city of Philadelphia for booing the hell out of Kobe during the All-Star game a few years ago. Best. Moment. Ever.
He is a punk who no one seems to like. Name a teammate of his who ever says anything positive. Can you? I mean, you would think that if it was all ridiculous, Shaq-fueled, media-driven bias, someone would step up and defend him...right?
He acted like a petulent child in the whole LA-Shaq-Phil scenario and yes, I am going to take Phil's word over the blah blah blah of Kobe's incessant blah's. The man is a phony.
Not to mention that he is a rapist, who is only avoiding jail time because a judge in CO allowed rape-shield laws to be systematically dismantled -- to the point where the victim was intimidated off the stand.
Sure, he is a talented player, and he used to say all the right things, but now that his dirty laundry has been exposed to the public, and his "nice guy" image is blown what is there to like about the guy. He plays a selfish game, can't carry a team of legitimate players and seems to drive coaches out of town.
Wake me up when he's traded to the Trailblazers with Darius and T-Mac and Francise and Vinny Carter...boy that would be awesome. God, if only they would also live in the same house and have it filmed 24 hours a day. I think it would be three days before Kobe was shived in the lockeroom.
