Wow jumping 4 spots after a bad performance against a lower level team, you don't see that very often.
I think we're a great a team but not quite a #9 team...Yet

True, but still the ranking is nice for now.

Things are going to get scrambled though once conference play starts for sure.

who cares if we are over / under ranked. I only care if our opponents are under ranked. The rankings mean nothing in terms of on court stuff. But if we beat a ranked opponent it gets added to our resume and makes later in the year better. On the one hand I'm happy we will get uconn and pitt while they should be 2/3 or so. If we win one of those (which I would be EXTREMELY happy about) we will have a very good resume already.
obviously i hope we win both - but if we pull off 1 that will be a very good thing.

This is why I can't stand these polls. As long as you don't lose, you move up. It doesn't matter if you lose to someone ranked above you by a halfcourt heave on their floor in triple overtime.

yea 2 top 10 clashes in a matter of days will not be good for my heart or stomache...I think I will have to have a paramedic sit next to me during those two....rankings don't mean much clearly and yes we may be a bit high but hey the Hoyas just need to take care of business and if they do the rankings will follow

Barring something really bad happening tomorrow night, which I don't even want to contemplate, all this new ranking does is allow ESPN to ultra-hype their first Big Monday of the season. Conference opener, two rivals, two top ten teams, etc., etc., etc....... Gosh, do you think we'll be on all of the networks at the same time, with different camera angles for each network? (that's somewhere in the top 20 of all-time ESPN stupidest ideas ever, in between "Tilt" and that God-awful "Season On The Brink" movie.)

so we jumped Lville, Syracuse, and Xavier because they all lost last week. Not sure why, but somehow we jumped a UCLA team that beat 2 crappy teams while we only beat 1 crappy team. Works for me.

Didn't realize the Hoyas were the first Big Monday of the season. Also opened up CBS' college bball season. Man oh man, how far this program has come... Thank you, again, JTIII [can't say it often enough!]!

Beginning with the UConn game Georgetown plays five out of its next six games against Top 15 teams, including three on the road.
I wonder if any team has ever done that before.

vamos, i was thinking the EXACT same thing on my way to work this morning. Perhaps not ever, but I would think that is the toughest stretch of any D-1 team this season....that is just murderous and I can say without reservation that we will have a very good idea of where this team is headed and what it is capable of, with just 1/3 of the big east schedule completed.

We could start BE play 0-3 and still be playing pretty well. Our schedule is definitely weighted towards the front half of the season, so I wouldn't be surprised if we start a little rough but come on strong in mid January. I'm NOT saying I think we will, but it would be understandable. Monroe's performance in our first three BE games will give us a good indicator for the rest of the season.

The only comparable stretch I've spotted so far is the last 5 regular season games for Marquette: 2/21 at Georgetown (9) 2/25 vs. Connecticut (2) 3/1 at Louisville (19) 3/4 at Pittsburgh (3) 3/7 vs. Syracuse (14) which, depending on seeding, could be followed by another game against a ranked team in their first BET game. Brutal.
