Ok, so can we get some big donors in on this and demand a return to home grays and dark blue away uni's? Also, let's seriously start a campaign through here to put pressure on the AD and make sure they understand how much we want home grays and navy aways.

Tiger Hoya- I wouldn't say alternate jersies is a college football thing. I would actually blame MLBbaseball- it seems to me they were the earliest league I can remember to try this marketing ploy so extensively. Am I wrong about that?

The "kente cloth" pattern on the neck was something Nike did at a lot of place in hoops and football. It manifested itself in different ways at different schools. Clemson went with tiger stripes on the neck in football while FSU has kept a neck pattern (feathers or some other tribal pattern?) to this day. I can't think of any obvious examples at other places right now or I'd list them.

Yeah I know others do the kente-esque thing. BC does it with the letter "BC." I hate it. The simpler the better. The older the better. Give me Penn State and Bama any day.

thebin, The 1970s eras Oakland As and Pittsburgh Pirates with their mix and match uniforms could ultimately get the blame for that for MLB if you wanted to really reach Somehow I think you meant MLB more recently thought with a lot of teams wearing BP/alternate jerseys (and hats in some cases) on the field. Minor league teams often wear an alternate hat and jersey on Sundays and call it their Sunday best (Richmond Braves come immediately to mind. College baseball is following the trend heavily now as well. South Carolina has 2-3 uniforms with various combinations (including at least 2 different caps.) Clemson is adding an orange cap this year to go with their other 3 caps (white with purple bill, solid purple, purple with orange bill) and 3 jerseys (white, purple and orange.) BC still does the kente-esque thing? I hadn't noticed it lately - just that they went with the latest trend and had the eagle head in the oval at the base of the neck.

Thanks for the clarification on the blue vs. purple on Clemson--I knew I saw a color that didn't fit, thought it was purple.
Blue certainly doesn't fit at CU. Then again, neither does black and teal at Georgetown.

I believe BC still does it on their unis- more sure about football than hoops. Anyone notice last night?
Actually English Premier League soccer might be one of the worst offenders of random alternate jerseys. Don't know how long they have been doing it, but we are talking about alternate jersies that look like they are for a completely differnt team.

The other thing about the merchandising facet of things is the number actually available for sale. Nike usually sells at least 2-3 numbers for each football team per year in the replica jerseys (usually a QB, WR or RB.)
Places like Eastbay will sell you a jersey with almost any number on it unless the school has restricted sales (Florida has I believe.)
The reason for mentioning all of this is - the only UNC football jersey I ever see is #23 and I doubt any of their fans could tell you who wears that number on the football team at any given time.

I just think that is because you look like less of an ass wearing a football jersey than a basketball jersey in public- barely. Nike used to sell a Gtown #3 football jersey. It was pretty cool. I have even seen Gtown hockey jersey by Nike.

I saw a hockey jersey behind the bench last night watching the game on my PC. One of Courtland Freeman's relatives (his uncle maybe) was wearing that last year at the Citadel game too.
I'd like to think things like the #23 UNC football jersey relates to the attitude at times on Tobacco Road about football, but that's an entirely different topic. (Just to throw a couple of things out - stay out of the way of Duke or UNC fans leaving a home football game early if a basketball scrimmage happens to be going on that afternoon and Duke students were seen entering the stadium *after* the Clemson game just to tear down the goalposts.)

Nike used to sell a Gtown #3 football jersey. It was pretty cool. I have even seen Gtown hockey jersey by Nike. I've never seen either, and I've searched A LOT for an authentic GU football jersey. Remember, Nike doesn't choose to outfit Georgetown for either sport. (Football is a Russell product, don't know about hockey.) Why Russell doesn't market it, I don't know. If someone's got a link to a Nike jersey, e-mail me. Many of the football knock-offs out there seem to be #32, although I'm not sure why. (I'm guessing it's not in honor of Al Blozis...)

Sorry, don't want to be too harsh here, but why would ANYONE want to market ANYTHING related to Georgetown football?

I don't know if that would be an "authentic" hoya football jersey as it was obviously a gimmick thing during the Iverson years. I saw a photo Snoop Dog wearing the Hoya hockey jersey once. Big Bulldog face in the middle, no university name. Can't remember exactly what the Nike football jersey looked like, just rememberd it looked better than the authentic football jerseys the team used.

It'd still be fugly if this were the case, but to me it looks more like a male cheerleader's top than a hockey jersey. Of course , I realize pointing that out starts a whole other discussion.

get a mass email going to menshoops@georgetown.edu ? I can try to write something when I am not so hungover. It should mention our contention that almost nobody likes the current black and teal use. Maybe we should do a poll and when we have 50 or so votes- we can present some data in the email. I think I will start a new poll now... That goes to the coaches, I believe. Not sure if that is the best place.

I'm torn here, because while I like SU's jerseys, I seem to recall that they like ND went with those unitards for a game or so. That should be an automatic disqualification for any recognition.
Perhaps I am wrong, but not as wrong as those outfits. May they never re-emerge.

Just a thought here, but was the reason why Nike changed our jerseys because the Big East has 5 other schools ('nova, UConn, WV, Pitt and ND) who all have the away navy's and since we were once white and teal, they thought we'd be the easiest to change us and provide a new flavor? And perhaps that would be why they are hesitant to let us change back?
I mean when you look around the rest of the country, most confrences sport many teams with un-like colors, while we've got "6" navy's, two red's, and formerly two straight blues (no longer Pitt)...and those damn Orangemen...maybe they wanted to add a little variety?
Just thinking about this Editedes the hell out of me as they messed with our history and tradition, but it makes sense, since when the jersey's were debuted, we were on the decline, poor, weren't getting anyone's attention, and had no real choice....
