henry, just like julian, is coming along. both have to find their comfort level. the next 5 games will hopefully give them plenty of minutes to grow into their roles. we need both to contribute more once dec 29th comes.

Hey PopeJohn even though i have 36 posts doesnt mean this is my first georgetown season. Ive been living and dying with this team since Zo and dikembe were the twin towers in the early 1990's. So we can stop the hating on people with less that 100 posts.. As far as Velvet goes I didnt say sims wasnt going to be awesome. I merely said its funny how some top 100 recruits takes longer to develop and soem come in and produce and look comfortable. I dont think anyone is giving up on Sims, personally i think in the long run hes going to be terriffic. Also I think its the role of a fan to l ive and die with the team on a game to game basis. I know some people dont like any negative or critical comments on this board they have to lighten up.. Or at least lets have a good debate and not call people clowns or new to georgetownbasketball when clearly that might not be the case.

My issue with Sims is not that he doesn't have it all figured out yet. No one expects that five games into the year. It's that he doesn't seem to be working on the kinds of things he needs to get better at. Post play has a notoriously steep learning curve, so every possession that Henry's jacking up threes, whether he makes them or not, is a possession where he's not learning about posting up, getting his man on his shoulder, developing an arsenal of post moves, blocking out for rebounds, etc. Maybe he's doing it in practice, but he needs to get reps in real games too, and it'll be easier for him to do it against weaker frontcourts now than against Thabeet, Onuaku, Harangody, etc. I believe you all when you say he'll become a competent shooter. But we have many competent shooters. Find me one thread when we were recruiting Henry that said "Oh, yeah, this guy's a great shooter, he'll back up Austin at the 3." The value of a big man that can shoot in our system is that if he's out on the perimeter AS A POINT FORWARD he can keep defenses honest if they sag off. He's not supposed to be a spot up shooter. We don't have much depth in the post, we need solid minutes out of eveyone we have, and that's why I want to see Henry in the paint.

That's what practice is for. I'm sure Henry is working hard on his post game behind the closed doors of McDonough.
I forget which commentator said it, but I remember one of them a few years ago said that the toughest thing in basketball was transitioning between a facing the basket player to a back to the basket player.

Henry's mostly been in games when Monroe has been, which means he's playing the "other" post role more.
It's five games in. This is the role he's been asked to play -- I seriously doubt he's openly defying the staff. Let's see where he goes forward.

I think it's obvious that Sims is nothing more than another Cornelio Guibunda. Just. Please. Stop. Give the kid a chance. Yes, we need Sims and/or Vaughn and/or both to contribute significantly this year if this team is to be really good. It may happen, or it may not, but even if it doesn't, it does not mean that Sims won't be a significant contributor down the road.

I haven't said a single critical thing about Henry's skill, motivation, work ethic, respect for authority, or anything else. I have never said I think he will be a failure or that he can't contribute. On the contrary, I'm quite eager to see him improve and be the player we all hope and expect him to be. All I've done is offer my own opinion about what I'd like to see out of him in the next few games. Take it, leave it, or discuss it. But there's no personal attack there, on Henry or on the coaching staff. I'm not going to withhold my opinion for fear of hurting someone's feelings.

Atlasfrysmith is obviously tailing Henry as he spends all day and all practice not trying to improve.

Atlasfrysmith is obviously tailing Henry as he spends all day and all practice not trying to improve. That's what I don't get about those types of statements. Nobody on this board is at practice. No one knows what Sims (or any other player) is doing between games to get better. And no one knows what they coaches are telling him to do during games. BTW, if you want to see what Sims is capable of, get a copy of the Capital Classic game. He was an inside presence in that game. www.thecapitalclassic.com/site8.aspx

I'm excited to see him improve. I can see the coaching staff concerned with bringing him along at the right pace. Otherwise, I'm not expecting much yet. For example, I'll be really happy when he's shows more concentration on his post entry passes. It'll be great to have a tall guy dump it in and cut off of it. I'm not surprised at all that the game seems to be moving really fast for him. He's seems to catch up a little bit when he's on the court for longer stretches.

I know some people dont like any negative or critical comments on this board they have to lighten up.. quote] its not that people dont like negative comments (especially not me) but the bashing of sims at this point is outrageous cuz hes a frosh who has played in all of 5 games and been practicing for 1 month. i think its the sims haters that have to do the lightening up. just my opinion...

Jeez guys I said in the original post "maybe he's doing it in practice." Did you read it?
Of course he's practicing all sorts of things. But all I have to go on, like the rest of us, is the games, and I stand by my personal preference for seeing more in-game post work.
And how is saying I'd like to see him do something differently the same as saying he's not trying to improve? Don't put words in my mouth.

You have no point. I'd like to see Sapp never turn the ball over, and since he turns it over in games, I stand by my personal preference for seeing less in-game turn overs. ?

And if Jessie had a game with 7 turnovers you better believe there would be dozens of people on here saying "Jessie's gotta stop turning the ball over." It's a discussion board; we say what we think about the team. It's not like I'm writing a letter to the coaching staff telling them how to do their jobs.

Don't put words in my mouth. i think you practice in practice and dont roll out something experimental in the old spice classic until its ready. his doule-fake running lefthanded hookshot is just not ready for a real game situation yet. be patient! ive sed my peace on this topic.

I agree pope john people shouldnt jump off the Sims ship. I think hes going to be a great assest in the future. I just think we all see the hoyas being 1 solid big away from a real deep run in the tournment this year. I definitley dont consider my self a hater of anyone.. well maybe macklin when he was at teh ft line. clankeronni...
