What is with Henry. I realize he is a freshman playing in a complex offense, but he appears to be completely uncomfortable and lost on the court. His game seems to be that of a two guard and not of a center or PF. I think he needs to not shoot 3s unless he is holding the ball with the shot clock winding out. However, if we are in that position, the team is in trouble.
I watched all three games from the Old Spice. We have some incredible players, maybe as much talent as the AI teams. If Zo had a Freeman or Summers at his side, we may have been a final four team instead of second round exiters. Give the team some time and we will be ok, but expect a lot more losses in the BE this year.

"What's the deal with Henry Sims? He's six foot ten, plays like he's six foot two. All three pointers! It's ridiculous! We want him down low. He's out at the three point line. We want him playing like an experienced college athlete. He's played three games. I say to my friends 'Look! He shot another three!' Didn't go in. Never goes in! Maybe eventually it goes in."

I was thinking the exact same thing. Its funny how we get these recruits and it says theretop 50 or 100 recruits. Then we go nuts on here watching highlights of there highschool games most likely of wide open dunks and we fall in love with all of them. But its funny how some players like sims can com here and look completely lost and not ready to play while others like clark, or jeff green can come in and just perform.. Remember jeff was only a 4 start top 100 rrecruit like sims. To defend sims i think 3 is playing him out of his comfort zone out on the perimeter. He sems like hes thinking and not just playing. He will learn but hopefully intime to be a contributor this season. But itotally agree that is weird how somerecruits have a smoother transition than others

I went to a game in Durham, NC in December '06 and we had a Top 100 recruit get significant minutes and he looked lost, took a lot of 3s and didn't come off as a top rated recruit. You know him, his name is DaJuan Summers. He ultimately made the All East Regional team by March. Is Sims Summers? Doubtful but there is a long way to go.

The consensus among those of us who saw Henry in Kenner League was that he would be a very good player for us, but maybe not this year. So far I haven't seen anything from him that would make me question either of those beliefs.
He needs to bulk up and find his place in the offense. Right now he just gets pushed around down low, so he goes out to the perimeter. Once he gets some muscle on him he'll be able to hold his own down low, since he has the skills. He's also capable of hitting that 3 point shot, so once he establishes an inside game he'll be a real headache for opposing defenses.
Give the kid some time. He'll end up being a fine player for us.

Duane Spencer made First Team all Newcomer in Big East so if that happens--that is a good sign.

GAWD such reactionary posters, Henry has talent and will be a force soon, he has to get stronger and develop a post game, he was a face up player in high school, he comfortable that way, thats why he is playing this way. People have these like set conformed notions of what a big man is. Henry is gonna play alot of forward in this offense he probably wont play the center role, he isnt a banger, but he is an athelete that can run the floor. He will be good down the road. Like i said in my other post if someoe had told me after 5 games of watching Roy he would be the player he was in his Sophomore season i would have lost alot o money, Let JT3 work with the kid some, he's had him all of 2 months.

agreed on the offense. what is your opinion on sims as a defensive player/rebounder. can guys of his stature seriously earn their keep playing a 3?

I don't think I completely agree with the idea that Sims is getting pushed around down low. How much time has he even spent down there?
I thought he was a very capable defender and rebounder in KL. That, of course, does not translate to playing against good teams... but I don't think we should write him off in those areas before we see him down there.

I did not mean that he was no good, I meant that me saying that was no good because I hoped it did not happen. To early to pass judgment on the young man I agree.
However you guys are sensitive as heck. Despite my post count and my registration date I have been here since 1999 or so. I was here when Pitbulls used to post things about Harvey and everyone transferring.
I was here when a lot of you guys under Esch were claiming it was unrealistic to be competitive every year. I was here and I fought a verbal battle with many of you old timers from those days.
I have been a Hoya fan since 1986 so please dont think I am anything but a die hard Hoya fan despite the fact that I dare to question JT3 and our defensive rebounding.

yeah HoyaJake i remember him trying to defend Onuaku in that game the tombs lost by 2. Henry didnt do a great job finishing against him and IIRC got in severe foul problems.

Agree that it's waaaaaayyyyy too early... there have been several threads and negative comments about Henry already, and we're a mere 5 games in. Seems like people are expecting too much of him. Yes, he wasn't a sleeper recruit or anything, had a lot of positive publicity coming out of Baltimore and was a top 100 prospect. However, he was still a bit of a project. Not a sleeper or anything, but a guy who clearly wasn't going to knock anybody's socks off early on or be in the running for Big East freshman of the year or anything. Of course, the ceiling is high. And nothing I've seen so far has made me think different on that front. Big guy, very long, moves pretty well, just hasn't gotten into the flow yet on offense. Takes time, a lot of guys don't grasp it right away. Remember Roy struggling with it early on? He got a lot more minutes than Henry out of necessity, but he was still clearly uncomfortable (as was most of our team early that year, to some extent)... and Roy turned out alright, ya? Henry will get the hang of it eventually and be a really nice player over the next few years.
As for the three point shooting I think it's getting blown out of proportion. If he was hitting them everybody would be wetting themselves. It's a shot in his arsenal, he was a face up player in high school as someone else mentioned in this thread. It's not like he just decided "oh hey, I'm in college now, let me start taking 3s!" Yea, they haven't fallen yet and I suspect at this point he's looking to get involved on offense in some other ways, but it's not preposterous for him to take a 3 if he's open. Just because he's tall doesn't mean he can't shoot, this isn't the 60's, lots of 6'10 and up players are good shooters nowadays, and some of 'em even do it from the 5 spot... Matter of fact, a center with an outside shot is a valuable thing in Princeton style offenses--see our ol' pal Kevin Pittsnoggle. Anyway, I'd like to see Henry find some other ways to score and use the outside shot to "keep 'em honest", but I bet you anything that will come in time.
"HENRY--STOP SHOOTING 3's!" in 2008 is becoming like "ROY--DUNK THE DAMN BALL" was in 2004.
