Dude, I've obviously struck a chord somewhere.
I've seen countless Georgetown Prep games and countless DeMatha games - it used to be my job at ESPN - and to me, Cook deserved the award.
Cook, in my opinion, is just as good if not better shooter, passer and playmaker than Starks and was the driving force on the best team in the area.
And of course Coach Bryant is going to say he thinks his guy is the best player in the area, I would expect him too. But even he will tell you the headaches Markel gave him this year on the defensive end. Even Markel himself said that's the one area where he knows he has to improve on as he ascends to the next level.
Don't want to turn this into a Editeding contest, but all of this is through my eyes.
That's all.

And please don't get me wrong, Markel is easily one of the top 15 points guards I've seen in this class, and will be one hell of a player at Georgetown.
Can't wait to see him go up against Ryan Harrow Thursday at the Cap Classic.

And indeed the Hoyas should have the best backcourt in America next year. I don't think we are there yet. As much as I hate to write this, Duke's backcourt looks like the one to beat. Smith is staying, Dawkins too, former Big South ROY S.Curry will get a large portion of Scheyer's allocation of points, Irving has the potential to be a great college guard, and Thornton is suppossed to be good. That's three McD's, Jordan's Curry (who could end up scoring more than those three from day one), and a solid reserve in Thornton. Except for Thornton, these four players could start in any team in college basketball. It will be interesting to see how Coach K handles all those egos and their playing times. Hopefully, they don't mix well, but Curry has spent one year with the team and Irving knows what he's getting into. I don't see Thornton getting any minutes next year, not because he doesn't deserve it, but because he's the fifth option in a crowded and talented backcourt. BTW, I'm not even counting possible early departee Singler as a #3. Is Kelly a 3? Makes no difference. Freeman and Wright, in a good day, are on par or better than those players. Clark could be a weapon next year, but where he could be better and more valuable than all the players mentioned is on the defensive side. All of them need to be more consistent. I'm not sure Clark starts in another top 5 team. Then it's Vee and Starks, two very solid contributors from day one. I have only seen a 5-second video of Bowen, so I'm not in a position to discuss his game and potential. The difference could be Hollis at the 3 and his height. Advantage GU if Singler leaves. Comparing both backcourts, we have the advantage in experience, although I could see an argument against it considering that Smith and Dawkins won the National Championship and several ACC Championships. Both backcourts are not that great at defending, although Duke ends up looking better with the help of the refs. Finally, we should have the advantage on leadership, but the jury is out on that one. Both backcourts get A+.

Dude, I've obviously struck a chord somewhere. . No. You see I went to DeMatha too and graduated from the school. I root for guys from the program. But I won't suck up to them. I thought Keith Bogans in the 90s was overrated coming out of DeMatha. Very good player but overrated nonetheless. Didn't have any problem telling people so if they asked. Cook is a bit overrated in my eyes but I'll admit almost every game I catch him he is jacking up stupid shots and missing too many of them. Right now he is a shorter, poor man's version of Chris Wright. When Chris was at St. John's his play at times turned me off because he was playing the point but looking to score far too much. Even worse he wasn't shooting a high enough fg% to make you forgive some of those questionable shots he took. (btw credit to Chris and III for the change in his game now). Cook's volume shooting reminds me of Chris Wright's but in Chris defense he also wasn't playing with the stacked deck at St. John's that Cook is currently at DeMatha. Cook is on track to be a stud. But Starks was better this season. And if you actually think Cook was a better shooter this season then we obviously are not going to see eye-to-eye this on this. Peace. Go Big D.

Not sucking up to anybody.
I can go on down the list of dudes from DM - won't name names as many of them are friends - who were overrated as well, but Cook isn't one of them.
Go Stags.

Adrian Dantley attended DeMatha while I was a student at Georgetown. Dantley was not overrated.
I know that has nothing to do with anything, but I just thought I would offer it up anyway.
