So we're tired of talking about politics, and the election can't get here soon enough. Let's do another music thread! Pull up your Ipod, Itunes, or other music player. Put it on random and list the first 10 songs that come up. No cheating to make yourself look cool, if the Power Rangers theme is on your Ipod, it's your own damn fault. We shall discuss the results. My 10: "Oh No" - Tim Armstrong "Paul Getty" - The Scofflaws "She's My Man" - Scissor Sisters "Lovefool" - The Cardigans "Cumbia de los Muertos" - Ozomatli "Fight For Your Woman" - The Checkered Cabs "Dies Irae" from Mozart's Requiem "Me & Mr. Jones" - Amy Winehouse "(Love Is Like a) Heat Wave - Martha Reeves & the Vandelles "Boyz in the Hood" - Dynamite Hack And that's just my work computer. My home computer would be waaaaay weirder.

I like it! Let's play for money!
(Sorry, I had a Biloxi Blues moment).
Here we go, honestly and no cheating: (except that this is my iPhone, so it only has about 900 songs, several thousand fewer than my iPod. I can try with my iPod when I get home)
1. Placebo - Where Is My Mind? (Pixies cover) 2. Massive Attack - Angel 3. Erasure - Sometimes 4. The Long Blondes - The Couples 5. Morrissey - The Last Of The Famous International Playboys 6. Radiohead - Stop Whispering 7. The New Pornographers - All For Swinging You Around 8. The Police - Rehumanize Yourself 9. Vampire Weekend - Mansard Roof 10. The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing

Willie Brown Blues (from the Blues movie "Crossroads," not the Britney Spear's movie of the same name) 7. Jamaican in New York (Shinehead...cover of "Englishman") 8. Abantwana Basethempeleni (Ladysmith Black Mambazo) 9. Love Rears its Ugly Head (Living Color) 10. Como Fue (Ibrahim Ferrer, former lead singer of Buena Vista Social Club)

For a random sampling of over 4400 songs, mine came out vaguely political (and also more vulgar than I typically think of my musical tastes), if you want to read anything into it:
1. The Roar of the Masses Could be Farts- Minutemen 2. An Ode to the Nocturnal Muse- Of Montreal 3. Cry Baby Cry- The Beatles 4. Believe- The Oranges Band 5. Bust- Big Boi 6. Ain't Gonna Suck Itself- Cracker 7. Johnny Sunshine- Liz Phair 8. Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell- The Flaming Lips 9. Lisa's Birthday- Drive-By Truckers 10. Are We The Waiting?- Green Day

Shorter Boz: I am 5-10 years older than you, Bando, but have exceptionally good taste.
Weak.
Cheater.
As in a Stooges cover? I had no idea they had done that. To YouTube! ON EDIT: Wrong song, I'm an idiot.

After generating both a Nickelback song and a Creed song, I decided that I must forgo this game. This was a pretty miserable list.
But to be a good sport, I did it a second time and think this list is less shameful than one that involves the two worst bands in the history of music.
"Like a Movie" --Midtown "Dance, Dance" --Fall Out Boy "The Other Side of the Crash/Over and Out (Of Control)" --Thursday "Georgetown Fight Song" --The Chimes (I seriously didn't rig this to happen, I swear) "Black" --Pearl Jam "A Game" --Talib Kweli "Last Straw" --Jack's Mannequin "Take Me Up" --StruM (off the Georgetown Forever soundtrack...again NOT rigged) "Say It Ain't So" --Weazer "Play Your Part (Pt. 2)" --Girl Talk

I hear ya strummer....my #s 11 and 14 were songs from the album that the GU band recorded!
Don't be ashamed that N'back and Creed came up. Be ashamed that you bought their music. Unless of course you got it free. Then be ashamed you didn't mooch something better.
Good to see you're a fan of Jack's Mannequin. Andrew McMahon is a great dude and a damn fine musician---we grew up together & he and my brother took piano lessons together---and overcoming leukemia is no small feat. I still remember when his band Left Here (which became Something Corporate) won the battle of the bands in high school in 1998.

I was always somewhat a Something Corporate fan, but Jack's is even better. In HS, I saw SC live a bunch of times, and am seeing JM for the third time in about 2 weeks at 9:30 Club. His music is just fun to listen to, and he's very entertaining live. Last time I saw him, he was pounding drinks the whole time, and still sounded perfect. It's a shame he had to stop burning pianos, but I guess no one wants another "Great White" incident. As for the N'back and Creed, my musical tastes in early high school ranged from terrible to just plain silly. So my CD collection has quite a nice range or pure garbage.

Ol' Dirty Bastard "I Can't Wait" Mittens on Strings "Confrontation" The Who "Go to the Mirror" Less Than Jake "Three Quarts Drunk"
Out of just under 9000 songs i dont know how two LTJ songs came up. It might me just as interesting to see what the top ten most played songs are.

As for the N'back and Creed, my musical tastes in early high school ranged from terrible to just plain silly. So my CD collection has quite a nice range or pure garbage. Of course I'm joking about Nback & Creed---we all have some stuff in our iTunes that we wouldn't want to share. For example, I was a huge emo fan from 2000-2004. Eesh. SC's success is something we're all proud of back in Orange County. I basically grew up with all those guys, played sports with them, one of them dated my cousin, one of them was my understudy in a play, etc. Really awesome people, never let the celebrity get to them, always fun. The last time SC came to DC back in 2003, they played Nation in SE and we hung out on their bus after the show, which was incredible. While we were waiting for them to come out we chatted up the bouncer, and he said that that night's show was the third best show he'd ever seen, behind Metallica and AC/DC. Their showmanship is just awesome; Konstantine is probably my favorite song live outside of Bro Hymn or Atomic Dog. I hope SC starts touring again someday. Whenever I'm home I usually play football with the bass player (little known fact: they had to postpone a tour a couple years back when he broke his wrist in our annual Turkey Bowl), have a beer with the drummer (we've been buddies since 6th grade), and I keep running into the rhythm guitar player: he's now a 1L at a So Cal law school. Also little known fun fact: their long time roadie was homecoming king of our high school in '97! Sorry for name-dropping and tangential stories, but it's so cool to see friends become rock stars, especially when they stay down to earth!

You know you're getting old, when you have never heard of 80% of those song titles.

"Primavera" - Santana "Crazy Love, Volume II" - Paul Simon "Promises" - Eric Clapton "Let it Bleed" - Rolling Stones "Stuntin' Like My Daddy" - Lil Wayne and Birdman "Lounge Act" - Nirvana "Jubilaate Deo" - Schola of the Hofburgkapelle, Vienna* "Drift Away" - Uncle Kracker (Cover) "Higher Ground" - Red Hot Chili Peppers "Enter Sandman" - Metallica
Not suprising that Clapton showed up, probably only Outkast could give him a run for space on my ipod. EDIT: actually probably Grateful Dead could beat them both, I have interesting tastes
And I know of a certain Htalk member who's former roomates had 3 days worth of just Phish on their itunes.
* I didn't know what this was so I listened to it. It appears to be Gregorian Chant, which I did not know I had.
