Iverson is one of my favorite Hoyas and I love the Pistons. I believe that Denver came out ahead with this trade. Very interesting.

Very interesting. how long are those contracts for? i know iverson has an expiring contract. it was pretty much a given that he was going to be traded this season. he got pretty lucky. im not sure denver was going to experience post season basketball with their roster before the trade.

At least this means AI will come play in DC a couple more times.

What has Detroit won lately? They needed to shake up that team and "Mr. Big Shot" wasn't making any big shots in last few years--so get someone who can score the ball and has defensive team around him--besides he's tight with people on that team--and think it's best fit-motivated AI with athletic, scoring challenged team who needs him to score--which is when he's at his best. Pistons needed to shake that team up.
Denver--it's a good deal for them--but until Carmelo Anthony learns how to play basketball and not just score--that team is going nowhere. He doesn't play any defense, he can't pass out of double teams, he doesn't understand how to let others get off scoring while he's not hitting, and he's not a leader--other then that-he's perfect. Billups will bring professionalism and is from Denver--and McDyess has been great solid pro.
Iverson's contract is up after this year--so if he doesn't pan out-Pistons cleared cap room. If he does workout--they have a shot to getting to Finals.

Didn't realize Allen's contract is up. It makes a lot more sense now.

say what you will about the pistone...their organization is light years ahead of the nuggets. they are better coached, have better ownership, a better GM and better players. in fact, they have a better mix of guys then any team iverson has played for. iverson and carmelo just wasn't going to work, in fact, carmelo with anybody wouldn't work.
I like it all the way around.

Didn't realize Allen's contract is up. It makes a lot more sense now. Also, it is under assumption Denver will release/waive McDyess. So now the deal is basically Billups for AI straight up and after 30 days McDyess could return to Detroit if he chooses. So he could be Brent Barry from a year ago or Jerry Stackhouse who bolts for another team. McDyess will be coveted by contenders--but Detroit does make most sense for him--especially if they explained what was going to happen--which I'm sure they did. I'd do Billups for Iverson if I'm Detroit any day of week--especially with Stuckey and Hamilton on team and defensive mentality they have. They needed scoring and Billups game was garbage in past 2 postseasons-didn't make shots period--let alone big shots.

Why would Denver waive McDyess?

Just heard on the John Thompson show that the plan is in fact to buy out McDyess and he will return to Detroit. As long as he doesn't start talking about it like Stackhouse did.

Why would Denver waive McDyess? Denver is trying to cut money--and McDyess is another older vet who would cost them. Billups is under contract for 3 more years and is only a year younger then AI--so it's a great deal for Detroit. Either way-they win--they get a motivated Iverson and win or they get a motivated Iverson and he's off the books. You don't lose McDyess and you rid yourself of Billups who seemed to talk more about "turning it on when they want" then making big plays. Denver's problems are a lot more then Allen Iverson not being a solution. Until Anthony learns to play-they are going nowhere.

if i had to pick a team for ai to get traded to...i would pick detroit
i know winning a title is unlikely...but its probably his best shot this year
i wonder if 'sheed is on the trade block
i hope not
