I saw that. Crazy productivity for only 12 minutes....although the box score I saw indicated only 5 fouls. Did he really foul out?

In O'Brien's defense Roy needs to prove he can stay on the floor by not picking up silly fouls. Until he does that on a sustained basis how can you blame O'Brien for not completely trusting him? Its up to Roy. Classic chicken and the egg argument. Prove to me you can play without fouling, but I'm not going to give you the minutes to learn how to play without fouling. The team sucks, what's the point in playing Foster so much? Also, how do you explain Roy not getting more time in that 2OT game the other night when he only had 2 fouls. Classic chicken/egg. O'Brien has to win now to protect his job, so he makes moves detrimental to long-term success.

In Roy's last 5 games--he's averaged 12.4 ppg and 6 boards in 17 minutes.
Just needs to get over the rookie indoctrination of the fouls and he'll be fine. Refs will start letting him play after he earns his "stripes" and as year progresses--he'll get away with more and allowed to play.

With production like that, why wouldn't the coaches just let him go until he fouls out? Even if he fouls out 3 minutes later, wouldn't that level of production for 3 minutes be worth it? When a youngster is playing that well, don't you want to give him as many minutes as possible?

I think Rasho was playing ok, and maybe the coach felt Roy would be too tentative with 5 fouls...
Any chance Roy plays in the rookie-sophomore game All-Star weekend? I assume Oden is the starter, but maybe since Roy is one of a handful of rookies currently starting for their team, he will play...Jeff vs. Roy would be fun to watch.
Also, too bad Ewing Jr won't be a dunk contest participant as an NBA player (this season)...Dwight is good, but I could watch Pat's behind the back dunk again and again.

FYI, Roy needs to move his feet. The fouls also create many free throw ops for the opponent. Indy is building the right way and has a good core but they will only get to see what Roy can do when he starts to move his feet on D.

Not just moving the feet. He chops down on opponents unnecessarily, making contact with them as they go up for baskets. Plus his timing on his blocks has never been great so he ends up getting arm rather than the ball. Granted some fouls are bogus. If he stands straight and an opponent initiates the contact Roy often gets the foul called on him. Still its on Roy to play smarter and a little quicker in order to stay out of foul trouble.
The good news is that he is hitting his free throws and he is being aggressive on offense in limited times. 14 fg attempts in 15 minutes? Roy would often take two games to accumulate that total while at Gtown.

I doubt he makes the game and I doubt Oden starts. If Oden starts it's pure politics. He's not outplaying Marc Gasol or Brook Lopez, who should be the two centers going.

Sorry, my bad - forgot about Gasol, who has been great. Looks like Roy will have to spend that weekend working on his footwork.

The 14 fga in 15 minutes was helped by the fact that he rebounded his own misses three or four times, so he had several two-shot possessions.

really very strange...Roy goes 4-4 in the first six minutes of the game...Knicks do not seem to have any answer for him on defense...and O'Brien takes him out and Roy hasn't played since...he had 8 pts and 2 rebounds in the first 6 minutes and has been benchwarming for the remainder of the half....explain this to me someone? Al Trautwig raised this exact issue and the commentators had nothing except, "well they are winning the game, so you gotta trust that o'brien has a reason for his substitution patterns..."
I mean wtf? I feel bad for Roy...this teams runs a lot and is very sloppy with the ball...while Roy looks much more mobile vs. in college, it doesn't seem to be the best fit for him since they play less half-court O than some teams...

Its a jumpshooting team that does not emphasize post play. But, hey, what doesn't kill Roy will make him stronger. Playing in a system that does not necessarily suit him or play to his strengths could be good for him down the road as long as he keeps improving and makes a contribution.

Roy doesn't believe in taking those fouls home with him.
He's gonna use his allotment EVERY time out!!!

Anyone see the Pacers-Sixers game? Just another odd boxscore -- Roy had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in only 12 minutes (and was +11!). Only played in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. What's the story?
