They played Wharf Rat and He's Gone in Santa Clara last week. I think they only repeated two songs- Truckin and Cumberland Blues. I'm not much of a Dead fan. I got into the jamband scene after Jerry died and without being able to see them live, I never really connected with the music. This past weekend changed that quite a bit. I have a new and enormous appreciation for them. They'll never replace WSP as my favorite but they've got a new spot in my heart.

Racheal Price, lead singer of Lake Street Dive, gives a stellar performance of her tune "What Im Doing Here". This woman is a major talent who has yet to be "discovered", at least on the big stage. I was blown away watching this one.

Went to see local (and national) talent Nicholas Payton and David Torkanowski playing at a spot in the French Quarter called Tableau. Who walks into the place and sits in for a set but pianist Patrice Rushen. And it was all free, too.

Off-topic here, so we can take it to PM, but I am heading to New Orleans for a long weekend with my wife in October. Would love any suggestions on things to do, restaurants, must-do clubs, etc.

I think I'm the last person on the board to see him, but I saw Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue tonight - they were really good.

Quite the showman, that Shorty! Both Rivals and Scout rate him a five star player!

The Tedeschi Trucks Band. We saw them at The Beacon Theater on Manhattan's Upper West Side last night. Typically great TTB show. Susan was singing as well as ever... I think she has taken over the mantle for outstanding female blues vocalist/guitarist from Bonnie Raitt, or at least shares it. Derek played slide guitar like one of the top 5 living axe men he is. The band is incredible, starting with their two drummers. They also have a horn section - Sax, Trumpet and bone, keyboardist, three back-up singers and bass. They rock. In keeping with Susan's comment that every show is different, tonight they played several selections from Joe Cocker's classic "Mad Dogs and Englishmen", including The Letter. That was followed by a surprise guest appearance by Roseanne Cash, who told the crowd it was her very first opportunity to sing with Susan. They paid tribute to B Raitt by covering "Angel From Montgomery". If you get a chance to see them, you'll be pleased you did. Attachments:

Great artist. Good to see her (and her husband (and Buddy Guy)) on Colbert's opening night.

saw the foo fighters at the Forum in LA last week. Even with Grohl's broken leg, they put on a great show.
Third time I have seen them and would like them to dip further in to their song catalog as they have so many great tracks but mostly stick to the bigger hits. Perry Farrel came out and did two janes addiction songs with them which was very cool, Perry had a lot of fun and looked like he missed playing stadiums. They also covered a pink floyd song towards the end here is the playlist if you are interested

Drummer Herlin Riley, at an intimate, 200 seat, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation performance theater, performed 2 sets. Herlin Riley is a badass!

For the jazz heads out there on Hoyatalk - and I know there are at least two - I saw John Scofield and Joe Lovano playing together tonight in Greenwich Village. They were outstanding. A couple of great players and great guys who just enjoy the heck out of playing together. Ben Street on bass and Bill Stewart on drums rounded out the quartet. They are on tour so if they come to your town, check them out.

Brad Mehldau trio, with Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballad on drums. One 90 minute set. Sublime!
