So Joe Biden is the Democratic vice-presidential nominee. Delaware enters the national political discussion for the first time since Caesar Rodney.
Use this thread to discuss the Dem VP nominee and to continue discussion of the GOP VP nominee.
Personally, I think if McCain chooses a pro-choice nominee (Ridge or Lieberman) he loses the election right now. And Romney will be a disaster. To do no harm, he should select Pawlenty.

Biden has a disturbing tendency to run his mouth - remember his YouTube crack about the guy who didn't want the government to take his guns?
The Republicans' road to 1600 Pennsylvania just got easier.

Frankly, this campaign needs a bit of a shot in the arm, and Biden gives that. As an Obama supporter, I like this choice. Biden did vote for the Iraq war, but saw the light early on. His son is in the army, and about to be sent over there. A few early tidbits on Biden: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7574085.stmwww.newsweek.com/id/154863

Excellent choice. Biden knows as much about Foreign policy as anyone in Government. And he is a straightforward, honest guy.
This will be a really good team.

Aside from Hillary, this is Obama's best choice for winning the election. Biden adds the foreign policy experience that Obama lacks.

If I remember correctly, Biden graduated at the bottom of his law school class from Syracuse.
Enough said.

Biden graduated 76th in a class of 85 at Syr Law.
Of course, John McCain was 894th of 899 at Annapolis, so it's the old adage "it's not where you start, it's where you finish."

Dumb isn't one of them. While he wasn't my first choice for VP, he is a good choice. He has served the country with distinction and would be a distinguished VP, which this country has lacked for the last several years.

Maybe Obama chose Biden for the same reason Bush chose Cheney.

Didn't Cheney pick himself? Cheney was supposed to be the one to pick Bush's VP, but he ended up taking the spot himself.

This thread is a very good example of us taking politics way to seriously. Joe Biden went to SYRACUSE. SYRACUSE. He was probably happy when McNamara went nuts in the BET. He probably celebrated their title run in 2003. For all we know, he's friends with Boeheim! Why are people ok with this?

Biden went undergraduate at UDel, so his loyalties are probably stronger with the undergraduate (and home) state.
At least he's not an Ivy leaguer--and this strange trivia item: unless McCain picks Lieberman, this will be the first election without a Yalie on one of the two tickets since 1968.
1972: Sargent Shriver (BA, 1938) 1976: Gerald Ford (LLB, 1941) 1980: George Bush (BA, 1948) 1984: George Bush (BA, 1948) 1988: George Bush (BA, 1948) 1992: George Bush (BA, 1948), Bill Clinton (J.D., 1973) 1996: Bill Clinton (J.D., 1973) 2000: George W. Bush (BA, 1968), Joe Lieberman (BA 1964, JD 1967) 2004: George W. Bush (BA, 1968), John Kerry (BA 1966)
With Obama's degrees from Columbia and Harvard, there is at least one Ivy Leaguer on the ticket. Only once since 1928 has a presidential election not had at least one Ivy on the ticket.

The Democrats now have a classic upside down ticket. Talent, experience, judgment and statesmanship on the bottom and ? on the top. Worked in 1960.

Indeed. And the young guy ended up being a much better president than the experienced guy on the ticket (and much better than the experienced guy he was running against).

The best break that young guy got in terms of looking at his record came in the form of gunfire.

I'm confused. Which one's running for President?
Joe Biden or Barack America.
The Dems are going to confuse people in Florida.
;D
I think Biden was the best pick Obama could have made, save Hillary. (Hillary wouldn't have been the best for best for the country or his potential presidency, just for his chances of winning; Biden is better for the first two).
I didn't know about the Syracuse thing though. Stone him!!!
Biden also has connections to Georgetown too though. His son, Hunter, was Class of '92. (He's a LOBBYIST! OH NO! Run for the hills!!)
Hunter's a good guy. His father's a good guy. I'd almost consider it if the ticket was reversed. (OK, probably not really - but there'd be a little temptation anyway)

Biden is Obama's "Leo McGarry." And we all wanted to see Santos win that election.

The best break that young guy got in terms of looking at his record came in the form of gunfire. AGREED! I can't believe this myth is still alive and well. Kennedy escalated Vietnam and got us as close to nuclear annihilation as we ever have been. He also orchestrated a coup in a little country known as Iraq. He did like black people, talked purdy, and looked nice. For some reason the Dems still think these are the ideal qualifications for a candidate. Color me skeptical. I do think Biden is a good VP for President Obama. I don't think he helps there be a President Obama. And I don't think slding from a massive landslide against the most hated president in history into a dead heat before labor day is the sign of a strong candidate.
