Game #5 (Gold Medal Game): USA 64, Argentina 77 (recap, box score)
Ryan Kelly
3 pts, 1-7 (1-2 3FG), 0-0 FT, 6 REB, 2 A , 3 TO, 2 BLK, 23 min
Dominic Cheek
0 pts, 0-3 (0-0 3FG), 0-0 FT, 1 REB (1 OR), 0 A, 1 TO, 0 S, 13 min
This was not a strong showing by the two potential recruits in the gold medal game.
Final tempo-free stats ('cause I know you want them):
Taking RDF and others at their word that R. Kelly's strength is on the offensive end, this tournament was not a good sign. Mr. Kelly shot poorly from both 2FG and 3FG, and had a high turnover rate.
D. Cheek played somewhat better offensively in limited minutes - he may have received a bit of a boost by getting extended minutes against weaker teams. He also struggled from 3FG.
In fact, Kelly and Cheek were the 2 worst 3FG shooters during the tournament (small sample size!).
K. Walker (UConn), T. Releford (Kansas) M. Lee (UCLA) and T. Wear (UNC) all played well, at least offensively (Walker was named tourney MVP). However, I give the best-in-tournament (USA only) award to JaMychal Green (Alabama) who was tremendous offensively inside, and also rebounded and blocked shots at a very high rate. Looks like Coach Gottfried found a plug-in replacement for R. Hendrix.
