So far he's worked out for Chicago, Detroit, Charlotte, and he'll have New Orleans and Houston this week also.

All three of those guys -- all from the BE -- all come across respectful and well-spoken. Good reps for the league.

charlotte has the 8th pick in the second round, Chicago has the 9th pick in the second round, Detroit has the 29th aka the second to last pick in the second round, new orleans has the 27th pick in the first round and no second round picks? houston has the 24th pick in the second round.

while we all wish PE2 the best I am not certain getting drafted late in the second round would be the "best" for him. It seems to me history has shown that not getting drafted that late but having the choice of several teams to try out for ( which he surely will have) and choosing the one he feels most suited for might be better.

Not necessarily...
When you don't get drafted...you have to wait for invites to summer league/training camp. Very rarely does someone not get drafted and get signed to a deal right away. There has been plenty of situations where a guy gets drafted late and the team gives him a guaranteed deal. If you get drafted then that means that team obviously thought you might be a good fit and they believe in you instead of you trying to find the right situation for yourself. Each has it's pros and it's cons...but at the end of the day every player wants to hear his name called on that stage.

If you get drafted and then you don't make that team, I'm pretty sure they don't own your rights any more and you can go try out for whoever you want. So there's certainly no downside to being drafted. Team rosters are constantly in flux even during the year.

So there's certainly no downside to being drafted. Team rosters are constantly in flux even during the year. if u get drafted, you have to try to make the team, so being drafted in the second round precludes you from trying out for any team BUT the one that drafts you. (preseason that is). if/when they cut you you're free to go, but many of the INITIAL rosters will be filled at this point. It cuts both ways but since there is no guaranteed contract for a 2nd round pick, the common preference is if you don't get drafted first round, or early second, prefer not to get drafted at all (late second round pics usually don't make the team and they are screwed from trying to make another team's initial roster).

yes, there are exceptions to the trend.... Nick Van Exel was one too

I mean if you look at last year's draft alone...Aaron Gray, JamesOn Curry, Taurean Green, Demetris Nichols, Herbert Hill, Ramon Sessions, and DJ Strawberry got deals and stuck on with a team all year long. So being drafted late in the 2nd certainly isn't a bad thing.

of the teams he's worked out for only houston and detroit have late second round picks. every other team he's worked out for has early second or late first round picks.

i am not too worried... pat will play in the league and he'll stick because of his sticktoitiveness... regardless of where/if/when he gets drafted

Interview from his New Orleans workout
PATRICK EWING JR., Georgetown Q: Which players do you compare yourself to in the NBA in terms of your style of play? A: I feel like I can bring a lot of defense, energy and rebounding. I just try to make things on the court happen. It doesn’t have to be scoring points or anything like that. So a lot of people tell me Bruce Bowen because he plays D, is a long and athletic guy. But I don’t want to be the next Bruce Bowen; I just want to be the first me so I don’t really compare myself to anybody.
Q: What do you know about the Hornets? A: They’re a great team, they are up and coming. They just won their first division title in franchise history and they should have gone to the Western Conference finals at least, it was just a tough last two games. They’ve got to two All-Stars in Chris Paul and David West and Tyson Chandler is really starting to show himself and be what people thought he could be when he came out of high school. Everybody on the team knows their role, and they are stepping up big time. I think they are going to continue to be very successful.
Q: What areas of your game are you trying to improve or prove to scouts that they aren’t weaknesses? A: I don’t really want to try to prove or show off anything. I just want to continue to be consistent and keep doing the things that I’ve been able to do since I got to school. I feel they are looking at me for a reason so I don’t want to go out and try to do too much and try to overexpose myself and then look bad. I would rather just stay consistent in my game and hopefully if I get picked up by a team, then I’ll be able to do more things, learn from the people that are there and develop the way they want to develop me.
Q: Who is your draft sleeper, a guy who is not getting much publicity right now but has a chance to be a very solid player in the NBA? A: I’m a little biased, so I’m going to go with my point guard, Jon Wallace (of Georgetown). I think he is a great point guard, he’s very consistent and he rarely messes up. I think he will be a sleeper for a team that picks him up and they’ll be very happy with him and his production. Posted by Hornets.com at 7:38 PM 0 comments

I've been wrong before - gasp - but I don't believe Pat will be on an opening day roster in the NBA this year.

I dont think Pat really answered that last question, wouldn't a draft sleeper be someone who is drafted but ends up being a solid pro? He shoulda said Roy (although Jon is a good response)
