Good luck to Vern.. I wish he would stay, but his first option is to himself & not fans that cry like hoes because he's leaving. The posts bashing the kid is crazy & unless you're willing to say them to his face, why say them over the internet? JMO

Hmmm, why does this article seem much less definitive than the other story? Probably just the Post being careful, I would imagine. I honestly cannot remember a single case of newspapers reporting a transfer that did not end up happening. (as opposed to transfers that are reported on an Internet message board ) Personally, I think this is a pretty dumb decision, but I can't say it's 100% surprising (except that article toward the end of the year where he said "my time is coming." I mean, he knew Sims, Monroe and Braswell were coming in when he was interviewed for that story, I would guess). Personally, while I think this sucks, I am holding out hope that it means Braswell will be here. The two may be entirely unrelated though. One note to Ticket. I will wish you well except in one instance. We all know the choads over in College Park have been clamoring for your transfer ever since you committed to the Hoyas. If you go to UMCP, there is no end to the disdain and contempt I will hold in my heart for you. And I WILL root for you to lose and not make it to the NBA. In all other cases, even Duke or another Big East school, I'll still try to wish you well personally, if not the teams you play for. But my guess -- and it's just a guess -- is that he will be transferring to a less high profile school. Finally, I cannot let this go without addressing a serious issue from last night's thread. To paraphrase Natalie Portman in Attack of the Clones...
"Vernon, you're breaking my heart! And you're going down a path I cannot follow!"Folks, let's try to focus OK? That was from "Revenge of the Sith." I realize everyone is upset, but do you have any idea how long and hard George Lucas worked on the dialogue for these movies? Like, a serious bathroom visit, one in which you could read not just an article, but an entire ISSUE of 'Entertainment Weekly.' I think the least we can do is show some respect and get the name of the movie right. Sheesh! ;D

I'm a little surprised about how fast that other thread got out of hand. A bunch of Hoyas fans given a vague article are bound to speculate -- why shouldn't we? I don't get the impression that people were being hurtful in their speculation. The fact is that Macklin (in all likelihood) had a SERIOUS problem with Georgetown (in his eyes), enough to warrant him leaving the school and redshirting a year of his development.
Obviously none of us are JTIII, though he might well read the boards, but I have no problem with vague speculation or rumors if people have them. They can be unfounded, but I think we're old enough to take them with a grain of salt.

The true tragedy of the lockdown of last night's thread was the lost opportunity to further comment on the prequels. Since Hoyatalk continues to evolve more and more into a bad imitation of a comic/sci-fi/video game message board, it seems only fair that we at least interject that subject matter into our posts. As for the big ticket -- I agree. Man's gotta do what the man's gotta do. No reason for him to be unhappy and I just wish him the best and hope that the people who are advising him have his best interests in mind.

Speculation and rumor can be tolerated IF they are clearly labeled as such. Bashing a young kid, for an unsubstantiated claim, cannot be. Even if it turns out to be true, piling on a kid who palyed his heart out when he was in, was an upstanding member of the team and the school by all accounts, and might have reasons for such a decision that make perfect sense, is mean-spirited and goes beyonf the definiton of "avid fan". IF VMack goes, wish him success and happiness. Then we can focus on next year's team.

I think Vernon wants to go to the League, and he might not be sure that he'll get the time and touches to get there from here.
His game has definitely grown, and I believe that he'll be a star wherever he goes.
I wish him well and I'll be cheering for him.

As long as he goes to a program other than Syracuse, Maryland, and Uconn, I will support him. I'd still be relatively upset if he goes to a big east school. But i wish him the best of luck, but i'm still praying that 3 manages to convince him to stay.

I hope that this is Brandon Bowman 2003 part II, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't mind seeing him at VCU, Mason or North Carolina State.

i love vernon as a player, but i honestly think he may be a square peg trying to fit into a round hole here. other than a few games this year, he never really looked comfortable in the offense. maybe vern thinks he'll just never produce the numbers in this offense he thinks he needs to get to the nba.

I have heard from a prominent source with some connections to the Georgetown in the past that Vern felt he had continually to duck sniper fire from members of HoyaTalk and that's why he's leaving.

This may have been covered in the other thread, but I haven't weeded through the several pages of that one to pick out the useful information. Assuming the reports to be accurate, are we aware of any big men still available for the '08 class?

Other than a few individuals I'm proud of how the majority of us are handling this; with dignity and class. Even our worst offenders are a far cry from the dozens of Cuse fans who trolled Donte Greene's facebook account and bombarded him with hate messages or the hordes of drunken UConn fans chanting "Thabeet Sucks" outside of the Garden

Assuming the reports to be accurate, are we aware of any big men still available for the '08 class? Yes. Edgar Garibay has been mentioned (6'10" PF out of Compton). There's been a couple of other names, but I don't know how reasonable they are.

this rumor seems far from being confirmed. i hope he's convinced to stay. the decision really doesn't seem to make sense to me. i just doubt that any freshman other than monroe would really challenge him for playing time. and a more uptempo offense would give him more opportunities score and rebound. last year would have been the time to make a move, but maybe he thought we'd go pretty far in the tourney. who knows with these things.

This is a win-win situation.
For Vernon, he clearly needs more than 2 years of playing for the Hoyas in order to be NBA-ready because he needs to bulk up and become a more skilled player on both ends of the floor. Having an extra year of practice somewhere else while sitting out the year and then having 2 years of eligibility will be really helpful for him wherever he ends up. Look at Patrick Ewing, Jr. as a very similar case. I don't blame him at all if his goal is to make it to the NBA.
For the Hoyas, I think it's fair to say that Vernon just isn't ready to be a factor at the Big East level and he'd be a Junior who really wants playing time. People can point to a few minutes here and there against such powerhouses as Davidson (their guards were good, their frontcourt weak), St. John's (they stink) and Pitt (I'll admit he played well there) but there is no way he is a significant Big East player. The Hoyas are better off giving a freshman his minutes and letting that freshman improve rather than a Junior like Macklin, while also having the extra scholarship available for hopefully an impact player. We lose a backup level player and that's it.
