Listening to Steve Lavin just refer to our offense as international-style (what?) got me to thinking...is Nikita in the plans for next year? Any news on him, did he officially redshire?
In Kenner last year, kid showed he could shoot and handle a little bit...

I agree. But you know most folks on this board don't envision and don't want more than 8 players in our rotation so of course Nikita loses out. Truth is he may be the best three-point shooter on next season's team. I hope III gives him some run.

I'm sure Nikita can stroke it, but if he's the best three-point shooter on the team I'll guarantee he'll get time because that means he's really lights out.

I only saw him once in Kenner last summer, but I also saw him at every shoot around in DC this year since he started suiting up. He has one of the smoothest shots you can imagine and seems extremely comfortable with the ball. His shots are very confident. My instinct is that he will be a very strong addition to this team. Of course I have no insight into his ability on defense or with rebounding.

He also may be the slowest player with the weakest handle, who struggles to get his own shot. I don't see much changing. The people I talk to think the schollie could have been better served elsewhere.

I trust (and i rarely blindly trust people) that JTIII will play any player that is ready to play, even if that is the entire roster or just five guys. JTIII as proven to me (at least) that he knows when some one is ready to play at this level and when they are not. I hope for the day when Gtown plays a rotation with 13 guys, because then i think even coach can say that the process is over.

The people I talk to think the schollie could have been better served elsewhere. Yeah, id, I had a feeling this type of view would make its way to this thread. When you take the players from this recent team you can't tell me that Ewing or Summers' ball handling is strong or anywhere near where we wished it would be. I'm not sure Nikita's handle, based upon the fact he was only a frosh, was all that far off. I also know that of the three he was the only one that started off as a guard before going through a big growth spurt and ended up being 6'8. Is he perhaps the most slow? Maybe. But for four years we as fans have seen the team have success with a former walk-on and a project center who weren't the most swift of foot. If Wallace and Hibbert come around four years later with III already having turned around the program and brining in five star talent, folks here may have said that the two of them were too slow to ever play many minutes on a successful team. Certainly, even after these guys moved in to the starting lineup, you heard such concerns from Hoya fans early on about Jon and Roy. But if one can positively contribute those type of flaws can be overlooked. What I do know about this kid, from the little I have seen of him, is that he appears to have a great feel of the game, has splendid vision and above average passing skills for a guy his size. And he can flat out shoot. A 6'8 guy with a release and stroke like that is a valuable asset for any team, particularly one that loses its ll time three-point shooter to graduation. And as for that point of the schollie being better served elsewhere tell me how the Hoyas will distribute time amongst players if every guy is a four or five high school stud who expects to be the go-to guy as soon as he arrives on campus? Seriously folks never seem to think about that when they suggest that scholarships are being wasted. Give me a break.

I think there are enough shooters, but not enough guys that consistently take the ball to the rack. Or guys who bang inside for rebounds. Don't have to be 5-stars. All I'm saying is the people I talk to say the schollie would have been better served elsewhere. Why did he not get run last year after the pro issues were settled? If he was that good he shoulda been in there.

no he didn't. He was eligible in Jan. and never got off the bench. Did I miss him being redshirted? Camille Powell wrote that III was likley to redshirt him but we never heard about a final decision. Anyway if III saw something good enough in him to offer a scholarship then that's enough for me. Why some of you folks want to play fantasy league coach and quibble over who got a scholarship is silly?

Non-issue. Every player recruited by JTIII knows what to expect in regards to playing time and style. First off, he needs to be unselfish and needs to understand that he is surrounded by quality players. From what we've seen, and it's still very early, he doesn't focus his offense on having one go-to guy. Maybe that will change with the personnel. We don't need 13 four- or five-star players. Then, you become UNC. Give me the rough diamonds like Jeff (I think he had three stars) any day. Finally, I agree with Id. We need an inside banger to complete the team. But, we don't need to get rid of Nikita to have that scholarship. Then, you become UConn.

If I see this "Tuscani" commercial one more time, where the chef at some expensive-looking restaurant tells everyone that the pasta came from Pizza Hut, I'm going to throw the remote through the TV screen. Unless you were born and raised in the most good-food-deprived area in the world, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you can detect pasta from Pizza Hut.
Nikita, this is Sead's old seat. Get comfy.
My logic being that if Tyler Crawford got as little run as he did this year, it's not like III has ample playing time to toss around the bench. From what we saw in a few short minutes of garbage time, I thought Omar looked more ready for a college game than I've heard Nikita would be.

From what we saw in a few short minutes of garbage time, I thought Omar looked more ready for a college game than I've heard Nikita would be. 1)JTIII didn't recruit Sead or Crawford. He did recruit Nikita even though he did not have to use a schollie on him. The fact that he did suggests that he thinks he can play. 2)Crawford came in with very little skills that were D1 level. He never developed a handle but he did develop a very good outside shot (when left open). I base much of this on a dozen or more Kenner League games in which Crawford got all the minutes he could ask for over a period of four summers. Nikita, based on KL games, came in with much better skills. Now whether he has the intangibles that Tyler had is doubtful. 3)Omar looked good in some garbage minutes according to you. Okay, but Omar looked easily like the worst of the four new guys that played in the Kenner League last summer. Nikita, while far from great, easily looked like a better prospect in terms of size, dribbling, passing and shooting. Now the Kenner League is not the final word on how good a player is but I'm thinking if Nikita was allowed to play in those early season games he would have looked at least as impressive as Omar in those same garbage minutes against the cream puff portion of the schedule. 4)Yes, the Pizza Hut commercial is already played out.

I trust that any player who the staff thinks is worthy of a scholarship has a role with the team. Granted, there will be times when the staff "misses", but we also have to keep in mind that not every role that a player serves is on game day or is visible with the fans. The fact is that no team runs 13 deep, so there will always be players on the end of the bench who don't get any run, including some with scholarships.

If Nikita was willing to redshirt this year, that alone could have warranted his scholarship. Not too many D1 prospects would ever agree to be redshirted without a medical reason. If Nikita was willing to do that from the start, I could see JT3 thinking he could make this kid into something. As a 5th year senior, if he already has the skills as some folks say, he could definitely be worthy of playing time.
