The only way I can imagine students having mixed feelings is that they must have made some terrible offer to them. They probably offered providing a very small area along the sideline that was cut off from the rest of the student section or something. Im talking the entire sideline opposite the benches along the court being student section. That would keep a large section together and I know poeple would absolutely love it.
I also guarantee improved TV coverage with something like this. I will try to push for this. I'm still looking for input from others though about how we should best go about getting this done.

It wont happen this year, but I want something like this done for next year. Let's not even touch HB right now lic. However, a committee is being formed with me and some other students in coordination with some new guy working for the AD in order to establish communication between the students and AD.
This is a great first step because its the first sign I've ever seen from the AD that they are waking up and realizing that they need to actually start doing something. Hopefully great things come from this, including a student section holding down the sideline.

I find it HIGHLY unlikely the University would move the kids into the most expensive seats in the house. The reality of a college playing at an off campus arena like MCI is that Money Is God. Of course money rules the day anyway, but its magnified in our situation because WE'RE paying THEM for the "right" to play in that cavern. Were the school to move the customers providing the greatest revenue to the sections behind the nets to accommodate the students, I would literally crap my pants in shock.
GO HOYAS!!!

They dont have to be behind the hoops. I wish I could show you the pic that is the background on my computer because I see a setup that would work and eliminate only the courtside seats and a couple rows in the current sideline setup (because of the standing students the first couple rows would have to be empty).

I also think that the money issue is a very short term way of thinking (which is most likely the case with the AD). With the student section along the sideline we would have a much stronger home court advantage and we would win more games, thus increasng interest and increasing attendance which would make up the money. Also, the atmosphere would be more exciting, which would attract more people to games. And finally, we get on TV more and profit from that because there is nothing the ESPN, CBS, and ABC cameras love more than a Cameron Indoor-like wild student crowd that the camera pans over as the players run up and down the court.

Simian Prime: "YOU HAVE TO BE ON CRACK!
We are bitches to the BE scheduling process. PLUS, if we get the winning action in line, then that will give us more to bargain with when we do our next contract with MCI."
Gee, I never realized the BE dictated our OOC schedule! The bastards! And if we start winning, and negotiate a "better" contract with an arena that will still see us as a bit player tenant compared to the Wizards, Capitals and Ice Capades, we will repeat the mistakes of the past -- not using an upswing to bring the team home to a convocation center that can also be used for graduation, concerts, speakers and other events.
The Cap Centre sucked, and MCI isn't much better. Unfortunately, with the visionaries who always seem to be in charge at GU, that's probably where we'll be stuck, which is a tragedy.

When you have tv doing the game there is even less room b/c of where they set up the announcers on the side u literally have to crawl around them at center court. You can complain about the location of student section all you want, but they are not going to move it based on the current setup of season tickets and donations. The center three sections are for people who donate at certain levels to the Hoop Club. The revenue brought in for these seats (both donation level and the season price at $22.50 per game) are not likely to be forfeited to students at $8 per game. I think it would be great idea to move the student section, but i don't see it happening. money talks

ok fine dont surround it, do it on the sidelines and u somehow do have to get behind the basket for foul shooting and stuff, but just something. not is it just intimidating IMO, it also spreads the sound througout hte building, cuz sittin in 101, u can see that the only cheering is coming to my left, where the students are. and when the other team scoes, at big games it is to the right and ALOT louder, because there are more of them. man it makes me so mad when the opposing teams crowd is louderr then ours, so many old geasers who used to be lively back in the us air days, cuz i have been sittin with them sense then, bu now they are older and boring, the only thing we get form our section is this annoying owmen wistling in my ear and the guy thath as bveen gettin me season tickets sense alonzo mournings time, he says "BEND YOUR KNEES!" when the hoyas are at the foul line, so it sucks. i easily stand out for fan of the game around all those boring people. just for the record i have been nominated for fan of the game 3 times and won once, came in second twice. one time i lost to some graduated hoyas who put balls on their heads and had chritsmas lights on when they turned all the lights our for hte introductions, anybody remember those guys? they are in the saem seats as the studfnetns except on the other side of the court? they were there during lee scruggs and kevin braswll and the beggingin of sweetneys time. they always won fan of the game, and anyways i lost to some little kid of course, damn little kids...
i got off track there but, something does need to be done, and i could get people to sign the petition that sit around me, at least like 20 of them. and im sure the students will sign it. who cares about hte money factor, this is college basketball, not professional bball. they can still make plenty of money on hte courtside seatsAND behind the students, and where the studnets wont be anymore if this went through,
for that guy that said he s got somthin on his desktop, save that pic as a jpeg or somthin and get t on here, i wanna see it/

Its my view that with the closure of the upper level MCI is much more active. I think it can work to our advantage, it really is a great arena. With enthusiasm on the rise, I see us having a home advantage again in the near future. Hopefully starting today.

Student section was great, today. Keep it up on Tuesday! Good call on telling the old alums to get on their feet! Only gripe I have today is with those damn cheerleaders who insist on throwing t-shirts to opposing fans...DID THEY NOT SEE THE GREEN THEY WERE WEARING!?!?

There will be more about this later on in the recap (appx. 9:00pm or so tonight), but a tremendous job by the student section today. A good job by the locals in the second half. And the Notre Dame fans...they should be embarrassed. Traveling all that way and battling the snow and the entire mass of them sat on their rumps for 39:55.1 of the game. But hey, hope you had fun with that 4.9 when you were ahead.
I HATE the Notre Dame fans...and that's the best compliment I can give them. I always hated how many came, and how loud and consistent they were. In years past, it was sad to say like playing in the Joyce Center at times. But this year...they made more noise sticking their tickets into the slot at the Metro gate on the way home.

The ND fans were weak-it was nice to actually have some what of a homecourt advantage (if only b/c the opposing fans that filled the seats were silent) The only time I heard them cheer was when they tried to start a "Let's Go Irish' cheer at the same time as a "Let's Go Hoyas", so no one could understand either-props to the alumni fans though-for the first time they actually got into it (after a little prompting of course, but still cool). Also, I'm still stunned by the fact the MCI people let us rush the court-they actually moved the barrier out of hte way w/ about 2 minutes left. And then they let us rush it again! The first time I've had an opportunity to rush the court and MCI cooperated-I never would have thought that would happen.

I remember getting threatened with physical violence if we rushed the court. The times they are a changing.

Box score puts total attendance at 9300. Not too bad for a snowy Sunday afternoon in DC. I just hope 9300 doesn't end up as a high-water mark come season's end.

I remember my friends getting tackled when we rushed against 'Cuse back in 2001. Stiches, bruises, the whole sha-bang-a-bang.
Great job by the student section today. For some reason the game was on locally here in Boston, and the "Sea of Grey" looked awesome. Also sounded much louder than usual. Too bad I didn't hear the obligatory "God's On Our Side" chant...
As many in the chat room noticed, Mike Brey looked like a sleazy Dutch sex shop owner today, Chris Thomas' hair .... I'll stop there before I get vulgar.

I don't know about a Dutch sex shop owner, but he was sporting the Larry Eustachy look-that mock turtleneck always makes me think of cheep beer and Kansas co-eds
