Who would be on it?
In my opinion, it's: Ewing Sleepy Reggie Alonzo
A case could be made for a slew of others, but those players bridge the gap almost seamlessly from 1979-1992, the real glory years for Hoya hoops.
Feels like we're just entering a new "Glory Days" era, so hopefully those names could change over the next decade(s). It's morning on the Hilltop.

DID YOU JUST PUT HENRY HYDE ON THERE? With greats like Ewing?
He's my congressman. I hate that man with every ounce of my being....
And he's fat and completely senile. The man weighs 300lbs for god's sake.

Hyde was the best player on our best pre-Ewing team ... trust me its not political ... just a nod to players who came before JTII.

Hyde was the best player on our best pre-Ewing team ... trust me its not political ... just a nod to players who came before JTII. Hyde was a backup who almost never played until our best player (John Mahnken?) fouled out (?) versus George Mikan. Check his stats on www.hoyabasketball.com. If you want a founder, try the original coach, or Fred Fees. Mahnken or Andy Kostecka would be good, I'd think. DFW would know best.

As for Hyde - I assumed he started the way everyone fawns over his basketball playing abilities everytime that team is brought up. I defer to DFW's judgement on the best pre-Ewing player or coach would be.

I defer to DFW's judgement on the best pre-Ewing player or coach would be. If that were to mean "arrived before Patrick", it would be Sleepy. But they overlapped at GU. If it means played entire career before Ewing's freshman year? That's tougher. I'll submit three: Craig Shelton Johnny Duren Derrick Jackson

Hyde was the best player on our best pre-Ewing team ... trust me its not political ... just a nod to players who came before JTII. We had an NCAA final team in '42 or something like that. Is that the one that Hyde was on? But really, our best Pre-Ewing team was the final 8 team in '80 That team missed the Final Four by one point, after leading in the second half by 14. Best players on that team were Johnny Duren and Craig Shelton. It was a different era by lightyears from Hyde's day. Duren and Shelton were awesome.
