Miami wins. 4 ACC teams in the CWS and only 1 SEC.
Here are the matchups
Friday Clemson-Georgia Tech UNC-UCSF
Saturday Rice-Georgia Miami-Oregon St.
Format is now two separate double elimination tourneys on each side of the bracket. Winners out of each side play best 2 out of 3 for the championship.

Well, Chris Perez the 5-inning closer and Danny Valencia of the aluminum-aided Grand Slam saved my sports day! Miami really came in low under the radar, they'd been really struggling towards the end of the ACC season--truth be told they've struggled in both ACC seasons, but maybe that's just the strength of the conference judging by the CWS teams. ;D Miami was even falling out of Top 25/30 rankings by the end of the season. But they caught a break when Nebraska went belly up to Manhattan and San Francisco (that's who beat Miami in the Super Regional last year) and they ran off two consecutive big wins in Oxford.
So now I've got the doubleheader of USA-Italy and Miami-Oregon State in the CWS to look forward to on Saturday (throw in Braves-Red Sox too for the hell of it).

Just a reminder, today at 2 ET is game 1 of the CWS. There may be some storms in Omaha this afternoon that delay things.

The big matchup Friday night is the pitching matchup in the NC-Fullerton game. This one was a bit of a letdown in terms of pitching quality, but it was still a hell of a game. Only saw the highlights of the Clemson game, but man, they are on a roll. CWS coverage is one thing ESPN does right, IMO. It's a breath of fresh air to hear the announcers being so positive about college athletes/college athletics. Many of us (myself included) are guilty of holding student-athletes in the big-money sports (football and basketball) to ridiculously high, results-oriented standards. The CWS guys, particularly Harold Reynolds, stress effort, learning, and the players' commitment to their teams.

The CWS guys, particularly Harold Reynolds, stress effort, learning, and the players' commitment to their teams. I was moving Wednesday-Friday (getting stuff out of storage in Cola. SC then leaving some of that stuff at my parents' house and getting my stuff from SC ready to go then driving up late Thursday night - stopped at Richmond about 330 and then started again around 11) so I only caught the 1st inning of the Clemson game when I went by my fiancee's place of employment to get her condo key. I saw the 11th through the top of the 13th in the NC game and I caught a few minutes yesterday of the Rice-UGA game during halftime of the World Cup game. I'm optimistic now after reading the articles on the comeback Friday by Clemson but I'm still concerned about lack of run production early in games this postseason.

Looks like my concerns were well-founded after last night's game.

Clemson up 4-3 on Fullerton going to the bottom of the 4th. Both teams got 3 in the first (Clemson's starter got pulled after 1/3 in the top of the 1st and 3 ERs.) Clemson got their other run in the 2nd.
