Did anyone see Majewski throw the game last night? Oh, wait! I can't! Thanks Comcast and Angelos! It sounded like a classic on my little talkin' box!
I have officially mailed out my 1st dead rat of the baseball season!
Don't even get me started on what the DC Council is going to try and pull once the guy that they don't want (Lerner) gets named owner!

Jack - for those of us who tuned out after the first stadium fiasco headed by Cropp, can you fill us in as to the Cropp v. Lerner situation? I know he's Mr. Developer and all, but is it as simple as that?

My limited understanding is that Cropp was supporting Smulyan's group because of the presence of more significant minority leadership, including one of her closest political allies. Sorry I can't do much better than that. Lerner is reputed to be both a tough businessman and a recluse- Steve Czaban said of him "I couldn't pick him out of Duke Ellington's band." Needless to say, he has not been the smoothest operator in working with DC leadership, but at least he does not roast puppies. www.deadspin.com/sports/baseball/potential-nationals-owner-wants-to-kill-and-eat-this-puppy-167365.php

The city council is all bent out of shape b/c their group didn't get the ownership. That is when you started seeing "NightOwl" Marion Barry go on TV and begin to talk about poor representation of blacks in the ownership...Next thing, Vincent Orange (Councilman/Mayoral Candidate) is doing the same.
Prediction - City Council, in order to show MLB who's boss, will now make everything super difficult for lerner (construction licenses, cost overruns, etc.)
Here is a quote from Mr. Orange:
"I hope Baseball does the right thing and picks an owner we can get along with," Orange said. "If not, it will be a long ride."
I am moving to Spotsylvania with YB

The bottomline on the issue is this - if this were a McDonalds franchise that was being put near the Navy Yard metro stop the people potential franchise owners would need to talk to would be McDonalds - it would be McDonalds who made the decision about who got the franchise and they would award it to someone who they thought would be able to represent McDonalds the best. MLB did that today and the City Council has no say in it. They can posture all they want, but the Lerner group won. The ship has alreacy sailed on a lot of stuff that VE already mentioned - the permits are there, the bonds are issued and the land is being bought. The only things that the City Council could do would be counter-productive and make them look bad - like not expanding the Navy Yard metro stop - or not allowing parking garages to be built near the stadium. MLB picked Lerner because he's a developer and that's what the City and MLB wants to do with the area - if the City Council wants to make life hard for Lerner and his group then its only going to end up making it less likely that Lerner will want to invest in the area or the team - ultimately hurting SE and DC in general.

St. Pete, stop assuming that the DC City Council members will be rational actors. DC may not be a cesspool, but it does not have the most competetent or trustworthy elected officials. Particularly with folks like Cropp and Orange running for mayor, they will see this is a chance to make hay with their constituency, most of whom are anti-stadium anyway, without regard for how it makes them look outside the community. Watch it.

Watch it. That's fair enough - it might be asking a bit much for these people to be rational - however they could ultimately be costing the city baseball all over again if they are going to adopt policies that make it harder for people to come into the games from the suburbs and harder for people from the city to get to the games via public transit.

Anyone see Soriano's homer that cleared the roof in dead-center in Cincinnati last night? Estimated at 492 feet, but might still be rolling down a street in Paducah, Kentucky. And hey, the Nats have won 3 of 4!

First of all, VelvitElvis nice picture of Ric Flair during his glory days, now he is just an OLD, FLABBY, JOBBER!
On to the Nationals. I can't believe Stan Castan actually sat down and did an interview with those SCUMBAGS at ComcastSportsnet. In fact, I'm surprised that members of the Nationals actually speak to ComcastSportsnet. Those BASTARDS are responsible(along with that PIECE OF GARBAGE PETER ANGELOS) for MANY Nationals fans only able to see a limited number of their games. I can't believe we are going to get SCREWED for a second straight year. Stan Castan should have told ComcastSportsnet "GO F@#K YOURSELVES, NO INTERVIEWS UNTIL YOU SHOW NATIONALS GAMES."
Why the HELL is Alfonso Soriano hitting in the leadoff spot? He is CLEARLY the Nationals best power hitter...HE SHOULDN'T BE LEADING OFF, I DON'T CARE HOW FAST HE IS! Royce Clayton, Ryan Church, or Marlon Byrd should leadoff. A.Soriano should ALWAYS hit 4th or 5th. It's good to see Tony Armas Jr. pitching well. The Nationals pitching staff should be strong in the future with John Patterson, Mike O'Connor, and Tony Armas Jr. How funny was it to see that IDIOT Adam LaRoche get beat out by Nick Johnson on that play at first base?

Does anyone give a crap about the Nats-O's series this weekend? I'm going to the game tonight, and as a Baltimore native/childhood O's fan who is now a long-time DC resident/new Nats fan, I'm pretty fired up. Apparently though, they've got PLENTY of seats available for this entire series. Must be hard for anyone to get fired up about a series between two pretty bad teams...

I was SHOCKED to be able to watch the Nationals win over the Cubs yesterday on WGN. I thought Comcast would black-out the game, like they have done when the Nationals have appeared on ESPN or TBS.
I'm going to tonight's game to see the Nationals face the STRIPPERS HUSBAND(Kris Benson). It DEFINITELY seems as if everyone has stopped showing up for Nationals games. That is good for anyone who is either broke and/or cheap(like me) because I can by the cheapest ticket and just move to a higher priced seat since NOBODY will be at Nationals games and the ushers won't be paying attention. They are starting a long homestand. The Dodgers and Astros come in later in the week.

Yeah Booooyyy! Hottest team in baseball right now. Soriano crushes #23 in his last at bat. I can't wait for Mr. Cold Pizza to dismantle them later in the season!

Mainly because I'm going to assume that Kastan is somewhat intelligent and thus will send Mr. Cold Pizza back to verbally sparring weekday mornings with Woody Hayes and Skip Bayless the second he takes full control from Tavares. At least that way, when the team is dismantled, the Nats will hopefully get something out of it. They have some solid young players as a foundation (Zimmerman, Johnson, Patterson, O'Conner, Cordero)--competing is just a matter of getting rid of the crap (Byrd, Clayton, etc) and replacing it with some quality players.

From what I am reading, all 3 of this weekends games against the Yankees are very close to being sellouts. I was surprised to hear about that. I figured the Nationals attendance was getting close to the levels of the Florida Marlins and Tampa Bay DOUBLE-A'S, meaning fans aren't showing up no matter who the opponent is. Someone who goes to any of the Nationals games against the Yankees must inform us if RFK was nearly sold out. I was at the Nationals game yesterday against the Rockies and RFK was pretty much empty! It appears that the complete opposite will happen today.
Getting swept in a 4-game series by the Colorado Rockies has got to be the LOW POINT of the season. Not only did they get swept, they were outscored 35-14 in the 4 games. I thought the Nationals had turned things around. Things may get worse because after they face the Yankees, they travel to Boston for a series. At least most of these games will be televised on Channel 20. I'm sure Frank Robinson firing John Wetteland will turn things around. HA! HA! I can't believe Jim Bowden hired J.Wetteland. The Nationals will be better off when the new ownership group gets rid of J.Bowden and F.Robinson.

ZIMMERMAN GOES BOOM!!!!! THE NATS WIN THE SERIES!! THE NATS WIN THE SERIES!! ;D Talk to me in October pal... Like you'll be there. You just lost a series to the Washington Naitonals. Let that sink in. Seriously Torrie doesn't know how to manage a national league series - he put in Posada - his back up catcher - in the 6th inning of the game on Friday - nobody does that in the national league. Then he screws up the bullpen so he has to have one pitcher go all 9 innings on Sunday - yet he used a ton of relievers on Friday. Basically he was over-agressive on Friday and cost the team the series.
