Showcase, my apologies if I'm intruding on your turf. . .
I'm listening to the 9th inning of last Year's Game 4 against the Astros.
The Banners go up tonight, and we open against the Indians.
White Sox baseball returns.

Are the Thunderstorms the archrivals of the meteor?

I don't really have anything against the Tribe - plus, I'm only a few miles from Comiskey so a meteor might mean bad news for me.

The new job is putting quite a crimp in my posting, but I'm glad C86 was there to pick up White Sox Nation for us.
Dropping the first series of the season to the Tribe doesn't make for an auspicious beginning, however. Hopefully the staff comes around to its '05 form in short order.

Didn't really expect to see a new Sox thread. I thought I would just poach on the Cub thread, since it's their turn.
I'm really worried about the bullpen. I said that at the start of spring training, and I've seen nothing thus far to change my mind.
On the other hand, ordinarily I would be really ticked off about (i) starting 1-4, (ii) blowing a six run lead against the Royals, and (iii) being four games out of first during the first week of the season. But I'm still living in 2005, so I don't give a [self-edited] about any of that.

All is well. So long as we can play the hapless Royals all year long, I think they could win as many as 120.
The AL standings are a little odd. Seems like everyone's playing .500 or better, which doesn't make sense until you look at the Royals' record...

Is the white flag phone the one that Jerry Reinsdorf used to make his infamous trade back in 1997?

Is the white flag phone the one that Jerry Reinsdorf used to make his infamous trade back in 1997? Oh boo hoo. Nobody is longing for the halcyon days of Wilson Alvarez. In retrospect that trade was genius.

So I was at the Cell on Sunday. Not because I'm bisoxual, a friend was in from out of town and he wanted to check another stadium off his list.
Anyway, Torii Hunter's homerun rob was awesome, so was Contreras' start (fantasy team). This was the first time I'd been in the Cell since all the improvements, and I'll admit I was shocked at how much better it is. I especially like that since they've knocked down the projects, people in the right field nosebleeds (my seat) can even see the lake.
My only other thought is this, and I'm pretty sure I know where I stand on it, but I'm not proud of my feelings. The pretty girls at Comiskey aren't prettier than those at Wrigley but they sure do dress skankier.

I took in a game at Comiskey last summer, my previous visit being in 2001, and was very impressed. The park was one of the worst in the majors before (just above Shea Stadium on my list), now it's among the best of the pre-HOKmania parks. They also have the best ballpark Polish sausage I have ever had. Have they really taken to calling it The Cell in Chicago? Comiskey is a name that will never die for me.

I call it the Cell because I am a Cubs fan and think that Sox fans get what they deserve with the stupid name. You name it the cell, I'll call it that.
Be that as it may, I'd rename Wrigley "Kotex Field" if it meant a World Series.
Also, the food at the Cell has always been great. Not that I had anything but beer and peanuts yesterday...

When I was there on my 17-stadium road trip a couple summers ago, I was impressed with Comiskey... but from what I heard, nobody liked it pre-renovations. Sounds like you guys are echoing those sentiments. Also, the White Sox faithful were calling it "Comisk-ullar" or something at the time. That name still floating around?
Oh, and I gota go with Former on this one... the Cubbie honies out "hot-ted" the Sox gals, but the South Side gals totally out "skankified" the Wrigley chicks. Great fun to watch.

Allowing tailgating was one of the best things the Sox could have done. Many a beer drunk by me last season.

Having called New Comiskey "the office" for a number of seasons in highschool and college, I'd like to be the first to acknowledge that it left a LOT to be desired (up to and including the return of Old Comiskey Park, indelible stench of stale beer + diarrhea and all). Having found subtantially more gainful employment elsewhere in the nation, I've yet to take in Comiskey 2.02 first-hand, but on TV it looks very much like it should have back when it first opened.

I think it goes by "The Cell" most often now. It seemed like a good fit to me back when we were beating up first base coaches. "Sox Park" and "Comiskey" still get thrown around.
It does have great food - dollar hot dog thursdays are fantastic.

My views on New Comiskey/the Cell/Sox Park.
I have always felt that the rap on New Comsikey when it first opened was largely undeserved. Sitting in the first level, it was always a great place to see a game. The walkways were spacious, food and bathrooms plentiful, and the sightlines were adequate. That being said, the renovations have been successful. The park is more visually interesting and scenic. Also, knocking rows off the upper deck gave the appearance that it is less steep (although it isn't)
A lot of you probably didn't go to Old Comiskey. It was, charitably, a dump. Baseball stadiums are industrial buildings. They wear out and get obsolete with time. Old Comiskey, with its 1910 bathrooms and indescribable smells, had long outlived its usefulness.
And let's talk about what's happening on the field. Nice win last night against the Angels. Gracia has a bad habit of falling behind early, but the offense pulld him out of it. I always get worried with West Coast road trips, although we're 500 so far on this one. Indians up next.
