The games we have played against the Indians have been important over the last year, and this series will be no different. I think the Tribe will be in the race over the long haul because the Tigers are bound to cool off sooner or later (right? I mean, it's the Tigers).

I can't decide what I think about Ozzie's tantrum in the dugout yesterday when his pitcher failed to retaliate against Blalock after AJ got plunked twice by Vincente Padilla. On one hand, I like that Ozzie wanted protection for AJ, and it's an accepted part of the game (the chuckings that follow the warnings notwithstanding). Although personally, I always thought you should retaliate against the pitcher (which you obviously can't do in the AL). On the other hand, I don't like that Ozzie had his tantrum in public and thrust himself back into the spotlight. After leading the Sox to the championship last year, he can do no wrong in my book, but this is coming pretty close. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2485365

I agree about Ozzie pretty much being able to do no wrong, but this crossed the line. I have no problem with Ozzie wanting somebody on the Rangers dotted. I'm not sure that asking a kid who has made all of 4 or 5 big league appearances to do it is appropriate. Since the teams had already been warned, I would think there is a good chance that whichever pitcher hit a Ranger would have been hit with a suspension, so Ozzie was using this kid as a sacrificial lamb. Of course, the fact is that there isn't a whole lot of experience in the Sox pen, so chances are that some rookie would be handed the assignment. Fine.
What's completely unacceptable, though, is Ozzie laying this kid out in front of everyone. That goes beyond stupid. If Tracey had hit Blalock, I wonder whether he or Montero would have been sent down upon Riske's acquisition (which I like, by the way). This is a horrible way to treat a kid who has been in the majors approximately 2 weeks.
