I know everyone here Hates Vitale but I just had to post, I just finished watching UNC defeat G Tech and literally started to gag as Dickey V started bl0wing Roy Williams on camera while praising UNC for having a JV team. And of course I counted 11 mentions of Duke during the broadcast.

For the record, I hate Vitale. He is too loud and is distracting from the game he is annoucing. He should be adding, not subtracting, from my ability to watch the game.

Mike Patrick can be quoted as saying "There are legitimately 7 top 20 teams in this conference. UVA has one heck of a team."
Yes I know I put the Cavs at around #14 or #15 after they lost their 3rd straight conference game by double digits. This one, not to a top ten foe, but to a team that couldn't even qualify for the Big East tournament last year.
I guess the move to the ACC forces the 'Canes to play with more "passion for the game" and adds to the "depth and quality" of the world's most fantastic conference.
I just can't comprehend how UNC can blow out these teams from a conference so deep and so quality. I guess UNC could be an NBA team. That's the only plausible explanation.

Aw man it was sickening tonight. I watched the game too. Everything North Carolina did tonight, it was as if Dick Vitale was climaxing. Every move Raymond Felton made, Vitale would just worship. "Oh what a great dribbler, oh what a great passer, oh what a great hand-clapper, what vision, what charisma, what leadership, blah blah blah, blah." I mean, if Raymond Felton farted tonight, it would be: "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww Babeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey, he is the best farter in America!" Then Mike Patrick would chime in,"you know, I would have to agree with you!" I mean everything was an ACC reference. I remember they were calling the game, then right before the commerical break, all of a sudden and out of the blue Vitale goes: "I think Chris Paul is the best point guard in America. Justin Gray, blah blah blah... I can't believe Wake Forest lost the way they did to Illinois, I mean Illinois is a great team, but Wake's backcourt is just sensational, and blah blah blah." Then Mike Patrick chimes, "Well, don't forget Duke, if you are talking about backcourts. J.J. Reddick and Ewing." I mean it was a love fest. Then they went on to talk about N.C. State and how they will bounce back, and then it was Virginia. HELLO, N.C. State and Virginia stink this year. Man, it was just ridiculous how they fawned over the ACC tonight.

Now when you say NC Stae and Virginia stink, is that because Raymond Felton laid one on them? [Edited. Clean up the language.]

patrick is becoming just as bad as dukie v. the way they gush over the acc, especially duke, is sickening. personally, i like carolina and tech as teams and i hope they both run duke off the floor. watching the game is much easier with the mute on.

pretty funny... I sent a UVA friend the Mike Patrick quote... thought you all would appreciate his response: "I didn't see the game, but he must be on crack. We've lost our first three ACC games including last night's to mighty Miami and now we go on the road to Duke and Maryland, so our "one heck of a team" could start ACC play at 0-5. Your Hoyas seem to be playing pretty good hoops with a big W over Pitt and a good game with Uconn."

Vitale's last column was about the Pac-10...AND he didn't reference the ACC once. I was, quite obviously, shocked.
Of course the column before that was on Coach K...

Being a UVA basketball fan (somewhat) it's terrible seeing how bad they are. Oh wait they are always dissapointing. They are cold and playing with no confidence and are in the same situation G'Town was in last year. FIRE GILLEN!!!
and i hate Dick Vitale!!!

Uh, where have you guys been? Patrick has always been just as much an ACC whore as Dick Vitale. The only men's colleg basketball games he does are ACC games. Patrick has only gotten worse. His fawning over Tim Duncan (despite his greatness) and Shane Battier was sickening. At least Vitale leaves ACC country. When the two of them are together to call an ACC game its just unbearable. I couldn't even get through watching my recordingof the UNC'GTech game because of the two of them. By the way I did make it far enough to see Vitale's list of future stars which essentially were his list of the five best freshmen. Jeff Green wasn't on the list. Marvin Williams, Rudy Gay, Marcus Aldridge, Randolph Morris and some other 5 star high school recruit made the cut. I guess Vitale;s research was limited to pre-season magazines and Bob Gibbons reports.

By the way even John Feinstein admitted that Duke is a paper tiger this year and not anywhere near as good as their ranking. Someone should send that memo to Vitale and Patrick.

Yeah, MCIGuy I noticed that top 5 freshman list too. No mention of Jeff Green. Don't let me get started on Feinstein. You know in his mind, he is EF Hutton. He thinks when he speaks, everybody else listens. ;D

I can watch with the volume muted, but I cannot listen to his voice. You can say what you want about Vitale and Packer (and I could say a LOT), but they are color guys, their role is to offer analysis & opinions, misguided though they may be. Patrick is a play-by-play announcer, but you'd never know it listening to him. Mike Patrick never let a good play get in the way of his praise of the ACC in general, whether it is related to the action or not. I'm pretty sure he once talked about what a hell of a guy Wojo is...during a Sunday Night Footbal game. UGH!

Look Dukey V and Patrick aren't the only problem - ESPN takes the ACC over any other conference with any team, at any time, anywhere. If anyone has been watching sports center lately note how the ACC is repeatedly refered to as the "best conference in America" each time an analyst makes a transition to talking about ACC basketball or even in the introduvtion to a highlight. Just because a conference is incredibly top-heavy and some of its teams (Duke for example) are extremely over-ranked and have played easy schedules thus far does not make it the best conference from top to bottom. I would definitely rank the Big East and even the Big 12 above it this year.

Since they have the rights to the NBA now, I can't even watch their games telecast on the network. It is such a relief to watch NBA games on TNT. You might as well call ESPN the LSPN, the LeBron Sports Network. You would think LeBron James could literally "walk on water" if you ask ESPN, particulary Greg Anthony. But in terms of college, I mean Duke is not deep, and plus they don't have a true point guard anymore. Duke always has a true point guard. Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech are good teams, but the rest of the ACC are mediocre at best. Maryland is overrated, Virginia stinks, N.C. state is overrated and stinks (oh yeah, they were beat soundly by lowly St. Johns from the, my gosh, Big East conference). Florida st. and Miami, were talking basketball here not football, so nuff said. VA Tech and Clemson, please! Look at the Big East: Pitt (still good but struggling), UCONN, Syracuse, Traitor College, West Virginia, etc. Big 12: Kansas, Oklahoma St. , Oklahoma (who beat UCONN soundly), Texas, etc. I mean come on. How is the ACC so dominant when other conferences have better all-around teams across the board.

Don't forget that Texas A&M beat Texas yesterday and are much improved and also Texas Tech has Bobby Knight - which has to count for something down the stretch.
