Look Dukey V and Patrick aren't the only problem - ESPN takes the ACC over any other conference with any team, at any time, anywhere. If anyone has been watching sports center lately note how the ACC is repeatedly refered to as the "best conference in America" each time an analyst makes a transition to talking about ACC basketball or even in the introduvtion to a highlight. Just because a conference is incredibly top-heavy and some of its teams (Duke for example) are extremely over-ranked and have played easy schedules thus far does not make it the best conference from top to bottom. I would definitely rank the Big East and even the Big 12 above it this year. I don't have a problem with the other people at ESPN because they are more balanced. If they feel the Big 12 is better or the SEC is better or the Big East is better they will say that. This seasonthey think the ACC is the best and I tend to agree. However Vitale and especially Patrick always have a jones for the ACC. Always. They are just biased. Where I do fault ESPN is for now referring to Wednesdays as "ACC Wednesday." WTF? First of all no title will ever beat "Big Monday". But at least with that title, which has been around for over a decade, it can represent several conferences. But with ACC Wednesday there is no doubt what conference they are trying to pimp. And doesn't FOX have ACC Sunday? Why then doesn't that network refer to their Thursday airing of exclusive Pac 10 games as "Pac 10 Thursday"? No wonder kids keep running to the ACC. The media is in their damn pocket.

As for top 4 teams in a conference, the ACC is Head & Shoulders above all conferences except for maybe the Big 12...but they're still better than the Big 12's top 4...
I've hated the ACC all my life...but I can give them their 'props'...
Tech, Wake, Carolina & Duke...
I'd pick any of these 4 on any day of the week...and twice on Sundays...

Completely agreed on the top four comparissons - but 4 teams does not a conference make. I think top to bottom you have to look at the Big 12, Big East, and SEC in a conversation about what the best conference is.

State and the 'Noles... One thing Maryland, Miami and FSU have is 'athletes'...a team can be taught a superior scheme...you can't teach athleticism...either you have it or you don't... Give these teams better floor leadership and focus, they're just as good as Wake, Tech and Duke... Nobody is as good as Carolina...entirely too much offense right now...

GA Tech and Duke are both overrated right now. They're top 20 but no way top ten. Tech is 0-3 versus top 20 opponents with two blowouts and a loss to a shorthanded Kansas team. Very good, yes but not great.
Duke, who knows? They haven't played a road game yet. Good win versus Oklahoma in NY but that's almost a home game for Duke with the turnout they get.

Tech lost to Kansas...in Kansas...(with some home-cooking down the stretch)...They lost to Carolina...in Chapel Hill...(without Elder)...lost to Gonzaga on a neutral court...(they were just flat-out out -played)... No shame in any of those losses... They're easily Top 10... Duke is a bunch of 'Hype'...They've been that way for years...They'll beat anyone in Cameron except for probably Maryland and Carolina...

the_way's original post on this thread was, without a doubt, his best post ever on this board. I could almost hear Dukie V as I was attempting to control my laughter while reading the post.
Outstanding!

So, how was Mike Patrick tonight, ya whiners? I watched the first 15 of the ball game and I heard a whole lot of play by play work and disection of the game.

Actually it wasn't bad, because you had a Professional analyst in Len Elmore. No agenda, just breaking down the game. Mike Patrick tends to go along with whoever he calls the game with. If Vitale was there, it would have been another ACC "Love Connection" tonight. ;D

I hate threads like this, because they make our fans look small and insecure. We'll get ours when we're back on top. Until then, let the other teams have the glory. Duke is a national title contender every year. UNC has looked incredible lately. Everybody likes Gary Williams and Pete Gillen just like they like Boeheim. Let them dish out the ACC love again again as the Big East keeps winning national championships and adding basketball powers to its ranks. We'll get the attention when we deserve it.

How does this thread make GU fans look small. I like Duke and I have respect for UNC but even I understand that Vitale is and has been for the longest time a staunch supporter of the ACC. So much show that he has very little objectivity (wasn't like 25% to 33% of his list of greatest college players the last 25 years from Duke alone?). This criticism of Vitale is not just coming from a suffering program like GU and its fans. It comes from fans all the the big boys outside the ACC such as Kentucky, Arizona, UCLA, Kansas, UCon, etc. There are even fans of other ACC schools who call Vitale on this It may be overkill but where there is smoke there is fire. And as I have stated before I don't care if Vitale ever does a Gtown game again. The one good thing about the Hoyas' struggles over the last ten years is that they haven't been good enough to draw his presence for 99.999% of their games. That's a good thing for me because I haven't liked Vitale since 1991 or 1992 when I got tired of his act.

Think about who Maryland lost to... Wisconsin, G-Dub, Heels and Wake... 3 of those losses were on their opponents' home floor...one was against a very good cross-town team... Maryland plays Duke very well in Durham...they're one of the few teams that goes in there and aren't afraid...Carolina is another...

Since when have you commented on anything about Georgetown or the Big East. Everything out of your mouth lately has been the glorification of the ACC, Duke, North Carolina, and the like. Please let us know what your true intentions are. I mean just admit it, you have a problem, you are an ACC-holic. I think I have a solution to your problem. Stop watching ESPN. Then reality will set in again. Oh yeah, sorry to bust your bubble, but Maryland stinks. They are the same team from last year that struggled, minus an inside presence.

If you know anything about me, you know that I hate that Propaganda machine named ESPN... If you've read most of what I've said about the ACC, you know that I hate the ACC...particularly the schools in North Carolina because of racial and social issues...especially those bastards in Durham... I'm sorry you need me to lick your butt and tell you how great the Hoyas are in every one of my posts...It's disappointing that everything has to be pro-Hoya or pro-Big East or that person doesn't know what they're talking about... I come here to talk basketball...If you don't like what I write, stop responding...and stop reading...it's just that simple...

I love how everyone hates the ESPN "Agenda Machine" and despises many of their analysts and coverage. However it seems very apparent that despite this hatred everyone still watches. Many on this board complain about their bias toward this and that but that means you must be watch the programming on a consistent basis to give this opinion. No I don't work for ESPN, but why tune in if you feel the coverage and the opinions expressed are terrible??

Unfortunately, we have to deal with so many lies and misguided perceptions to get our sports "fix"...
